Why does Torts have to be so short in his post-game? I understand he is upset about losing the game, but grow up already, answer the questions and move on. The drama is embarrassing. He wants the team to be calm and focused as they race to the playoffs, and yet Torts has been acting more and more like a manic child.

Well, I guess you can look at it that he got everybody talking about him and not so much about Sandstrom.

Current none

But, unfortunately for us, Lindros

- THE BLACK HAND

Dunno if Lindros ever lived up to the generational hype. Maybe for a short while but he was never really that close to Mario.

Agreed 100% To me Lemieux would have surpassed Gretzky if he was healthy.

I don't know how old you are but IMO watching him play he was the most dominant player I have ever seen in his prime.

Agree he was about to demand a king's ransom to sign/stay in Philadelphia, not to mention a term that most of us would be horrified by.

then we could've traded him.

At least DB admits they were running him into the ground while fighting multiple injuries.

- Flyfly

Perhaps it wasn’t the worst thing that he sat. If you want to put it on the Flyers that he wasn’t playing well, that’s fine, I can certainly understand that. But it doesn’t change the fact that he was struggling despite a few games here or there.

I don’t really understand the logic, however, that a player clearly tired and fighting injuries is immune to being scratched because the team asked him to play big minutes earlier in the year.

He’s looked rejuvenated a bit in the two games he’s been back.

I just feel like the team could have handled it better instead of embarrassing him publicly.

Completely different skillset and era of play. Before injuries started taking their toll, he was a top 5 pts/gm in the history of the game. Changed the paradigm and was one of a kind. Put hi. I. Todays era and he wouldnr be stopped. He absolutely was the generational player he was touted to be

Sounds like Torts is coaching his last season.

For me it is not the benching. It was the circus around the situation with Torts refusing to speak to the media. More egregious is they knew he was dealing with multiple injuries and still playing him 20 mins a night. All the while he is just getting back from a two year hiatus.

That's really his parents' fault.

Sure, I can agree to that.

But I don’t think anyone on this team should be immune to being a scratch (I know some people that will point out those that seem to avoid the scratches).

Frankly I didn’t have a problem with it. Let’s see if someone can get into the lineup and play better. Admittedly, faceoffs without him were a problem.

I wouldn’t call Lindros or Lidstrom as generational. Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, Ovi and McDavid imo.

When it’s all said and done Matthews has a chance for a generational goal scorer.

Remember, Dan Hilferty claimed Torts was "the spiritual leader of the Flyers organization."

Can't wait for the quadrumvirate!!!!!!

I was old enough to watch 88 in his prime.

Human highlight package for sure but he wasn't always dialed in to the game.

Selfish and a distraction too which made it hard for him to elevate his teams the way Mario, Foppa and Nik did.

Not surprisingly, Cates-Couturier have dominated in shot attempts in there two games together. I think this is the first time they ever played on the same line.

Against Boston, Coots was 17-6 and Cates was 15-4. Last night Coots was 21-5 and Cates was 20-3. It will be interesting to see if they keep them together as a kind of super 4th line.

Lidstrom is legitimately one of the top 3 defenseman to ever play. Maybe Orr is the only guy better

Gretzky period of dominance was before I was really watching hockey. I started watching in earnest around 1992.

What I am surprised about is how many people hate the guy after a decade of watching the inmates run the asylum and players play a checked out brand of hockey. And using press conferences as one of the reasons is beyond silly.

He’s not perfect. Far from it. But I’ve watched enough crap and underachieving the last few years to appreciate what this team had accomplished.

I know that is not the opinion of everyone here and I respect that. But I didn’t lose sleep over Coots being scratched and the coach walking away instead of bashing the pitiful performance (again) of the backup goalie.

Lidstrom was quietly generational IMO.
