Torts will be gone when he is no longer useful. He’s like “the Bob’s” they have a specific role to play out then they are gone.
That’s my hope anyway. DB just had to know when that time is.

The problem is that he is a subordinate in name only. He is running the show and he has Jones and Hilferty in his back pocket. They believe that he is the soul of the organization. Briere is not in power.

Coots knew when he signed that deal no team was ever gonna trade for that contract. I don’t really feel bad for him and am indifferent to the whole situation.

It sure is always something with this franchise though.

When a player is offered and signs an 8 year deal at his age. He's thinking he is going to play the rest of his career for the team. I'm amazed how quickly fans turn their back on some players.

I've been a huge Coots fan since he first got here and still am. That said, I didn't like the contract as rarely does a player pushing 30 gets better and plays out the length of a long contract. I'm not turning on him, but I try to be realistic...he's been a warrior for years but it has taken it's toll. Yes, he can still be productive, but with the injuries and his age, it's unlikely that he can produce consistently throughout a grinding season. I hope I'm wrong but just don't see it.

Haha yes, of course he does! He has his favorites and will defend them to the death. He must be getting paid by HB to be on here almost 20 hours a day spouting out his words of wisdom to get clicks. Random poster has the dare to criticize Frosty = MJL spews his all-knowing rhetoric about how Frosty has been held back by Torts...etc. Pure comedy!

That's how he got his ass fired from the Rangers and Canucks.

His players (frank)ing hated him and refused to go along with his bs.

Plus storming Calgary's locker room between periods wasn't looked very fondly at.

I believe it was the Vancouver Province newspaper, 1 of 2 major newspapers in Vancouver had a whole page with " Good riddance" and his pic dedicated to his firing.

I guess and am not discounting your post whatsoever. But in all honesty are we at the point that the Flyers are so smart to be orchestrating this to take the spotlight off the players and let Danny work in the shadows?
- Flyfly

This isn’t very high level thinking. This is basic PR nonsense. Look how many posts on here are about Tortorella. Look how many on Twitter. Listen to who the Canadian broadcasters talk about the most Flyers. Tortorella is first and foremost and none of that is by accident.

Same for every team. The coach is always discussed more in season then a GM or other exec overall.

From what I understand, they generically talked. The assistants have pulled together video to.go through specifics with Sean. Tortorella is available if Couturier wants to advocate for himself and push back a bit in a one-on-one conversation. But the player has to initiate that.
Sanheim and Frost both did that after getting constantly nitpicking and singled out. York, last year, absolutely refused to take the bait and Tortorella eventually came around this season regardless.

So there's not only one way to get to a better place.

Sounds like some passive/aggressive nonsense.

BTW, glad to read all this insight from you, Bill, appreciate it.

I am a life long loyal Flyers fan. I’ll always be a Flyers fan, but I gave up on the idea that the Flyers would build a Cup contender in any intelligent fashion a long time ago. I have accepted that the best I can hope for is entertainment. As entertainment I can appreciate Tortorella. The team has been entertaining and Tortorella can always be counted on the do something ridiculous. It’s a fun time. As far as the reactions of a lot of fans (see Twitter) I think there are a lot of people who really just enjoy the idea of punishment. They love seeing someone get punished. I don’t know if it stems from having been punished as a child, so it’s confused/intertwined with feelings of love, or if it’s just because they are mean spirited, but a lot of people do love when a daddy figure gives a spanking and sends someone to bed with no supper. To top it off the coach throws in a “because I said so” to the media and stomped off for a scotch in the den. That no doubt got a lot of folks off.
- Dkos

This by far is one of the best post I might have ever seen. From the description of the masocist fans list for discipline to the acceptance very wisely of never building a cup contender with intelligent fashion and especially to getting the old folks off.

I applaud you from the bottom of my heart

For me if they want to really rebuild this I would be shopping konecny at the draft.

This is the tell tale sign. Rebuild = moving to for some really good assets….

Extension = retool and same old same old.

It’s poop or get off the pot time come draft time

That is #1 on the list to see if this is a true rebuild. I love TK but if we are looking long term I don't think and 8 yr deal over 9M is the way to go. I hate to see him leave but it is what a rebuilding team should do.
- Flyfly

I’d hate to see him leave too
I’d hate for him NOT to get the bag too
But I’d hate the most if we gave it to him and don’t get the assets from trading him.

See coots for reference

Losing will run Torts out of town. Winning will keep him here and in high esteem. It’s that simple.

I guess it depends on the definition of winning. Winning games or winning cups? Right now the team has won half its games and has no shot to win a cup and people are riding Torts Richard like its made of gold. If it is that easy for the franchise to satisfy the fanbase then all hope is lost lol.

There is no definition of winning. We all knew this was a limited team and Torts is doing winning with this limited team. It doesn’t matter who the coach is. You win, you keep your job. You lose, you lose your job.

But win what? Games? A cup?

It does matter. Seems like you and most of the twitter fans are just happy to win some games and have a chance at the playoffs without there being any real chance to win a championship.

I am a LOT older than you and I am tired of this. I've sat through enough seasons of this team having no idea how to build a winner. Under Clarke and Holmgren they were always trying to win last years cup. Under Hextall and Fletcher they couldn't decide whether to go all in or rebuild so they did neither.

Same thing now with this regime. They say they are rebuilding but it is the same half in half out BS that has gone on for the last 25 years. Trading one player who has been here half a season on an expiring contract is not a rebuild.

It sickens me how fans are watching this team and buying all Torts' bullpoop about standard and culture and playing the "Philly" way. I guess the Philly way is to be a declining cesspool whose best days are far in the past and continues to shrink into irrelevance because all the talented people are leaving. That is what Philadelphia is now.

Its same old same old.

Team is nowhere close to winning a cup so your argument is irrelevant. Torts timeframe is not going to include a cup and we all know that.

Your reply here is way off base. His argument is completely relevant because it addresses the mindset and approach of the team that is going to be a hindrance to getting to the point of being a cup contender. To say it is irrelevant is ignorant. Getting to the cup is a journey. Tortorella's time frame is part of that journey. It's a question of if they're on the right path.
