As much as I like Tanev, paying him until he's 38 isn't something I think the Canucks should do. The Hughes-Hronek pairing just crushes teams with possession: they fit well together and Hughes speaks so highly of him. Let's see how Hronek does in the playoffs, I think he's a type of guy to elevate his game.

Over dramatized it’s only discussion on what a potential contract could look like & how the cap will work out. Hronek will get paid & in PA we trust. It’ll be a busy offseason for PA. One game at a time.

It was also a few years ago while Hughes was still upping his game & the roster was dysfunctional. Imo he only needs a solid defensive partner who isn’t a pylon. He does things at an elite level. Norris 👍

I think Hughes was going to have a break out year even if he had Hefty playing on his side.

Not that +/- is the end all, but Hughes is 3rd and Hronek is 7th in the league overall for that. They outscore whatever minimal goals they give up by a large margin. I couldn't find exactly how many goals they've been on for, but their on-ice goal differential is: Hughes +75 and Hronek +28. The next D man is Soucy at +11. (I have no idea if that counts PP or not.)

Sure, they can be better defensively, but that narrative around Hughes needing a steady stay-at-home partner is sort of failing as he's putting together a Norris-caliber season with Hronek.

I think keeping him around 7 would be ideal. 7.5 is what I'm thinking it comes in at.

5v5 Hughes and Hronek with over 1000 minutes been on ice for 66 for and 42 against.

D with over 600 minutes together per 60 they are 1st in GF and 18th in GA.

It's not really much different than Myers, when asked to play higher up against better competition, he wasn't as good. Now that Hronek takes a lot of minutes. Myers is better. If you got rid of Soucy or Cole, I'm sure Z would struggle more as well.

I think most everyone is interested in his game so far. I think he is good. I don't think he is elite. No different that you just stating about Z wanting five mil instead you said 4.2 tops. Both have flaws in their game and is only an opinion of a what they think a contract should look like. Hopefully both are back at a livable AAV.

We’ve all our own opinions as for me I don’t go with their higher contract suggestions. A GM has a job to get the best & fairest contracts possible. The cap is real & a good to great GM has to prioritize spending to ice the best roster.

I wouldn’t say ppl want to get rid of him but not wanting to overpay & sign him for value is the aim.
