It’s the nature of fans, blame everything on the one person they hate. It happened under Hextall when a lot of the online community loved what he was doing so they put all the blame on Hakstol even though it was really Hextall micromanaging who was getting minutes. Many still will make excuses for Hextall.

The ironic thing is that many of the people who loved Hextall bash the current regime even though they are running the same plan except so far doing what looks like a better job of it.

It’s not just the nature of fans but human nature in general. I don’t like someone or something and there’s nothing that person can do to change this person’s mind, when his mind is already made up.

Just a reminder, the allegedly rebuilding Flyers were hyping Gauthier up as their top center of the future as recently as September, and then they panic traded him for a RHD with a bum shoulder and a 2nd rounder when word was about to get out he refused to ever sign here.

What a disaster.

So maybe I missed it but since Johansen is hurt and we can't assign him to Lehigh even though we weren't aware of his injury (and neither was Colorado). Which means that we have to carry his full 4M? And we'll have to put someone on LTIR to cover it?

It still feels seriously shady.

Sorry if you guys already discussed this. I wasn't sure if we had officially put someone on LTIR.

They haven't even got Michkov out of Russia and signed yet but he's already going to be "way better" than Konecny who's only scored at a point per game over the last two seasons on a talent deprived team.

You'd think after the Patrick and Gauthier debacles people wouldn't be so quick to assume everything will go great with a highly touted Flyers pick.

Did you read the word projects in there?

TK has 119 points in his last 122 games as by far the best offensive player on a poor/middling team.

If Michkov projects to be way better, that means you expect him at some point to score 150 points in 122 games? 160? How orange are those shades, exactly.

I think they can manage about 3 points during this stretch. One overtime loss and sneak a victory somewhere. Let’s not forget they played one of the top teams (Boston) pretty well, with the exception of a 3-4 minute span. That’s more than Toronto does against them and they’re supposed to be cup contenders. They practically lay down vs the Bruins with each meeting, think they lost 7 straight to them. Maybe I’m hoping for a miracle but, like you said the other teams are crapping the bed too. Tough task for sure, but they have won games this season against some of the better clubs.
- Laceemup88

Making the playoffs because other teams suck worse is not my idea of a good time. And I do not see how that could be good for the younger players, which supposedly, the playoffs are absolutely vital to their development.

Which is a lie. Flahr said this in Septmber:

“I think ideally, if we can turn him into an NHL center – a top NHL center – we want to do that. We know he can play the wing. We know he has the size, he can skate and shoot. But yeah, I think that we’ll give him every chance to be a center if he can.”

It's reality. It's not the only path but it is the best path. It can't be rushed. It's what it takes. You can be a playoff team and compete but if you try and escalate too soon. You will fail. The Flyers need 4-5 all star to elite level players. They have one with potential in their system. Konecny is an all star level player now but he is getting older.
- MJL

sure it can be altered if the players dictate it needs to be "rushed". it rides on how the player progress no?

if they falter it will take longer, if they develop rapidly it will take less time. so to say it cant be rushed is wrong.

Was Travis Konecny projected to be a superstar 1st line winger when he was picked as Michkov was when he was drafted? Do you consider Travis Konecny a superstar 1st line winger?

I’m confused by the statement myself. Michkov is projected to be a game changer.

I don’t think it’s a terrible idea to add a young veteran on defense. Bonk is still a couple of years away and anyone they draft will be the same if not more.
- psuhockey

Depends on how things shape up. Flyers should have Sanheim, York, Drysdale, Seeler and Zemula locked in. If Risto can be moved they’d need 2 more. Have to at least have a reasonable competition to allow Ginning (if he stays) and Andrae to have a legit opportunity to make the big club. Perhaps a you get veteran like a Seeler type to be that 6/7. But the kids in the system have to have a chance. Going out and signing a Hanifin doesn’t seem to make sense given that they need the cap space in a couple years and they need to give the younger guys a serious look.

They needn’t spend a lot on anyone this off season.

I don’t think the team has plans for Ginning anymore and I question whether Jones who has stated multiple times he wants a big defense with have all of Andrae, York and Drysdale in the same lineup.

Flyers have a history trying to move wing prospects to Center. Not saying it's bad, but they do.

They only have to carry the prorated amount of his $4M for the season.

Seeler, Risto and Drysdale were all on LTIR pre-trade, IIRC. They had to have the available space in place before trading for him.

You may very well be spot on. They are smaller players and size matters in the NHL. I’m not completely sold on Sanheim and would still like to see him go. I’d love to see two solid big-bodied young defensemen to pair with JD and CY.
