We got a little bit more for jake than what was given for kuz. lol
- Brownsoldier

Friedman is saying he doesn't know the details 7 minutes ago....how do you know them?

EDIT: Seravelli is saying its for a 2025 3rd round pick with Caps retaining 50%.....not sure how what the Pens got is a little bit more....?

Canes getting Kuzi at 50% off
- Thorny87

Im glad we retained 25% on Jake for that extra conditional 5th rounder so Carolina was able to pull that off...

I feel like Smith is gone. Graves is staying because who wants that contract and term after what he has shown this season.

Would Dubas try to move EK?

If I had to guess a player we end up with today, it'd be Jake DeBrusk. Probably depends if we can dump a guy like Smith.

Jarry has played like a #1 this season for the most part. I dont want to get rid of him. Smith I could see going for a pick like what the Pens paid for him. Graves will be hard to rid of. Few us think maybe somewhere like Zona who need to get to the cap floor this offseason. Long shot Graves isnt on the books in October IMO.
- MattStrat

Yea Graves to Zona haha. Yea I said Jarry because it seems Everytime it's a one goal game he gives up that tying goal and then the winner haha. At least he's paid correctly.

That depends on the direction of the team. If they’re going full rebuild, then another Karlsson trade is likely but Dubas is going to have to eat some salary.

If it’s another “retool” then I think he stays

Yes, just because he was gloomy in a post game interview about losing a best friend from the team and losing badly to one of their rivals in same night doesn't mean he wants out hahaha.

The word is that Ty Smith can’t play defense. Neither do Letang or EK65 on most nights. Young players don’t get a chance here. Unfortunately that’s going to have change.

Graves has a 12-team NTC, and certainly ARI will be on that. We're stuck with him.

The pressing thing is Ned, since his contract expires. Everybody else could be moved over the summer, but hopefully we can move at least one or two other players today.

For the most part... My problem with Jarry hasnt been general regular season performance. Anytime the Pens get down to the crunch or here at the end of the season where we needed to start putting together wins and make a run, Jarry starts to suck. He has been horrendous in the playoffs. Inconsistent in the regular season. And he has only started 50 games in a season once... but he is making #1 Starter money for a long time. Ned has put up basically the same numbers as Jarry, I think we would be just fine without Jarry.

He was rumored to be coming to us if that crazy 3way with VAN and BOS came to fruition.

Dont be so sure of that. He doesnt seem to be competing too hard this year. Maybe he is just the type of guy that wants to go and enjoy playing out his contract in the sunshine of Arizona? I think that would be better than being in Pittsburgh where you are going to be a media whipping boy and still not going to be competing for a cup.

Interesting thought. If it wasn't for his contract, he would have been a regular scratch. He could go the Michalek route. He'll be the fans whipping boy long before the media catches on.....JJ treatment incoming.

Kypreos did the other day too. Said:

Dubas screwed the Leafs cap situation with the Tavares signing - agreed.

Kadri trade - made a poor decision moving on from a 2C at a $4.5M cap hit. Poor talent evaluation thinking that Barrie and Kerfoot were better than they are. - really bad.

Traded a 1st and 2 4ths for Foligno - terrible.

Let Hyman walk over a $5M contract - terrible.

Brought in Murray - extra terrible because it shows he has guys that he likes and he will ignore what the player actual is because of this bias.

- MacPatty

That's odd? Dubas traded for EK and strapped the penguins to the cap with 1 player and dubas was forced to trade sids buddy and linemate.. Maybe sid will screw the penguins and go to colorado.

I think for me, that if you put this trade aside, the frustrating thing is that everyone said that when our core got to the mid-to-late 30s, they'd drop off and be anchors on the team... we've had 3 different GMs in the last few years and all 3 failed to give this group another chance at a run. Obviously Rutherford is less involved because he left, but he handcuffed this team with a lot of trades that didnt work out That can be true while still giving him credit for building a hell of a Stanley Cup winner.

Hextall largely wasted the last few years of this group. Dubas came in with a tough job, but he's made a lot of missteps. As I've joked, Hextall damaged this organization more than any Flyer ever could.

Please list the trades GMJR made that "handcuffed the team"

Kessel for Galchenyuk and POJ (soon to be washed Kessel)
Galchenyuk/Addison for Zucker (Addison is a BUST)
Hornqvist for Matheson (Horny had 1 good start to a season then was washed up)
Hagelin for Pearson, Pearson for Gudbranson, then dumped Guddy on Anaheim)
3rd Round Pick for Marino
Matta for Kahun, Kahun for Rodriguez/Sheary
Matt Murray for a 2nd
Sprong for Petterson

Brassard Trade? - He turned Brassard into McCann

Kapanen for #15 overall - Thats about it. Is that the one that "handcuffed the team"?

Yep, A 3.5 million dollar contract completely handcuffed the team, closed the window. No team can overcome 3 million in wasted cap

Says more about the team and the coach than it does the player and the GM

(EDIT - Currently pulling down a regular shift on a Cup Winner/Top Contender)
