The trade in the vacuum is bad but if you accept it happened and move on, some of it these pieces is are intriguing. Maybe this is some of my 76ers fandom taking over and slipping back into my tank brain but I like two of these prospects and the third has a sick name

The good thing is though. Waddell made these picks not dubas...So, I like what waddell made in carolina.

From what apparently this toronto fan above said it seems the penguins might be in trouble with dubas as president of hockey operations. I have no idea what burke did other than not tie his tie but I'll give dubas some slack though and see what he does in the draft.

Is this return good or what we hoped? No. But at the same time the market sets the price for a rental, even the top rental. They weren’t resigning him. It’s either take a shot with a conditional first and some lottery tickets or let him walk. Don’t love the move, don’t hate the move. But I won’t pout about it, here’s to hoping one of the three establish as a regular. If that happens it’s a win.

Well it's done. Is what it is. 6 assets for a seemingly pure rental isn't too bad, I guess.

Now, anyone else being shipped today?

Slept on it. Still hate it.

Here’s to hoping it’s a fire sale today.

If I’m Carolina, I’m over the moon. Keeping too 5 prospects and your first unless you make it to the scf?? lol not one canes fan would be upset. Good for them. We need a GM hired this offseason and ideally he’s from Carolina.

Glad that you already have your new guy for when Carter retires

Should have traded Guentzel back in November, when I first proposed.

We knew it was going to be underwhelming but a conditional first and not one of their top 3 prospects is pretty embarrassing lol

This is a blah type of trade. If this is the type of retool/rebuild we can expect, then the road is indeed going to be a long one

I am neutral on this deal. I feel as though it does allow for us to have a talent to take over the 3rd center role from a younger standpoint. We do get a bunch of players who will fill our bare prospect pool. I think a lot of these players will rank lower for Carolina due to their already good prospect pool, but high for us since we don't have a lot of exciting prospects. I am excited about Bunting. He seemed like a Kunitz type and I wanted us to sign him.

Here is a nice write up on him

Yeah the 1st being conditional is a big question mark. Idk how other teams couldn't do a better deal than that....if it was true that other teams gave us their best deals I highly doubt that no one could beat that. Hell the rumors of Edmonton offering two 1sts and a conditional 2nd seems like it would be a solid deal. Bunting I like in the deal, but feel he could have been had for Smith or a 2nd

Yea, think about what we've given up all these years on rentals. Seems about right. This is Carolina's Hossa deal that we got in 2008.

Dubas over played his hand and teams went elsewhere. He set ridiculous expectations and at the end was left holding the bag with only 1 team left. Put himself in a take it or leave it position. Guaranty he had better offers but played hard ball and other teams called his bluff. What a pathetic package he got

Much like many have said. I hope he blows things up today.

Smith, a goalie I'm hoping Jarry (since he looked terrible since the trade rumors came out), Eller, Acciari, Rakell, and Ruhwedel all should be shopped. Hopefully 2-3 are traded today.

Seems more like 6 bodies not assets. Dubas overplayed his hand and didnt read the market. Thought he was trading a talent like Crosby or Lemieux making crazy demands. Good luck with him in charge

This is my thought as well. I think if someone offered him a solid package off the bat he shouldn't have asked for more and just made a deal. Instead of asking for the moon

This trade feels like when you just keep adding mediocre pieces in an EA Sports game until the other team finally accepts.

haha true.

I'm actually disappointed we weren't able to add Morrow, Blake or Nudeau. We couls at least have brought one of them without a doubt.

What if Guentzel doesn't sign with them and comes back to the Pens in the offseason? Who knows..

Consistent long-time viewer here who doesn’t post much. But, Bunting is a Hornqvist-type player that the Pens have been lacking since his departure. A little too late - however he comes at 2 more years at 4.5m AAV. Solid value for what he brings in a rising cap environment. Add 3 prospects and a 2nd - quite the haul for a pure rental. Dubas overplayed his hand, overestimated his leverage and here we are. I don’t think it’s as bad as people are making it out to be though. We should have ample cap space in the off-season all the while filling the pipeline. My main concern is Crosby’s motivation moving forward.

It’s really not a ‘pathetic package’ for a rental. Market forces dictate the return. We simply don’t know what else was offered, yet.
