Hertl to vegas.

That's a great pickup for them. Probably means no Smith for them as well.

Really glad we unloaded that terrible Ruhwedl contract.

That’s true because he’s 30, not because he’s overrated. You don’t become a top 5 goal scorer in the league just because you play with Sid
- Victoro311

Yeah, he’s def heading down the wrong side of the age curve. What commonality do Robbie Brown and Warren Young share?

And Dubas is banking on the same effect for Bunting btw.

How the hell do they manage that cap hit for the next 6 years though?!? I get they are good at LTIR and cap circumvention, but that's just wild....

Has to be this year's and next year's 1st if there's any retention, which is screwing over Calgary if that's the case

There's going to be some kind of blowback, haha , from this and a change coming from the league. Like you said, it's spitting in their face and laughing at the same time. It feels close to when NBA teams try to build super teams

I assume Smith gets moved in the offseason and DeBrusk is a target in Free agency.

I am late to the conversation here but a terrible day by Dubas. I always thought that one of the rules of trades is never trade within your division. So what does Dubas do? He trades with the Canes and Rags and in the case of the Canes, gets mediocre prospects in return.

The Canes will have the inside track on resigning Jake and if they do, I am sure he will haunt the Pens for years to come.

Also, Graves has been a major disappointment but I have to wonder how much of it is Letang and EK, and the very risky way they play and significant difficulty involved in covering for them. Players like Letang and EK require very good defensemen in their pairings. I am probably the only person here who thinks this but I was never crazy about the EK deal because I thought the team needed to get more responsible defensively and that doesn't happen with either (current) Letang or EK in the lineup, especially EK.

It is unfathomable how they are going to fit Hertl in cap wise. Even with them doing the LTIR BS which I hate. Even for their long term view. How do they do it?

They arent screwing over Calgary, when agreeing to the deal, the Flames have to negotiate based on the worst case scenario of the agreement. Vegas wouldnt have structured the deal that way if they didnt intend to trade it.

Seriously, next year's 1st, two 3rds, and a prospect for Hertl?!? Plus retention??

This was a pretty tough deadline with everyone deciding they are sellers at the last minute. So returns werent great.

But Dubas just shockingly mismanaged this whole roster all year long. Acquisitions didnt work out, really his entire roster strategy failed. Didnt make any changes during the season that would move the needle and help us get there. Waited until the last minute when Jake was injured before trading him for peanuts. Didnt move Smith.

If you were to paint a worst case scenario for this season, this is exactly what it would have looked like. No playoffs, no youth infusion, no hope.

I really wanted to get Hertl for the Pens, so that is what I am salty about. And of course the fact that Stone is going to just chill on the LTIR until the playoffs. Oh, and the fact they get off the hook with Lehner being a drunk (you should not get cap relief for players that go off a cliff with booze and drugs).

I think this has to spell the end of Marchessault there.

No one wanted Ned? Shocking.

Not suggesting we get a huge pick or anything but doesn't someone need a quality backup going into the playoffs or for their push for the playoffs?

Almost a worst case scenario deadline. We got meh prospects, a few picks, and not even a guaranteed first and we lost our best winger.

We will likely win too many games now and will have a dogpoop pick this year which will be sent to SJ.

So all of this to not even draft in the first round of a top heavy draft? A disinterested coach? Just awful.

I still like the roster construction, or at least the attempt

Karlsson for all our bad contracts? Yep

Should have just kept Rutta vs signing Graves

Reilly Smith for a 4th SHOULD have worked (Might be a Smith attitude problem)

Eller - Good

Ned - Double Good

Acciari/Nieto - This were borderline minimum deals.Lets not pretend they were given 5 years at top dollar

This boils down to Sully being past his best before. Malkin being washed (Maybe GMJR and Hextall were on the right track here) Rakell on a big deal being snakebit, Rust being hurt (again) - Jake being out the last 10 games didn't help either - The cupboard being EMPTY in Wilkes Barrie when the 4th line couldn't hit isn't on Dubas

I liked Dubas during his press conference pretty much said the dropping prices kept some players here. He is still going to reshape the roster this offseason. He also took the best deal on the table for Jake. I respect how he took the blame for not attempting to resign Jake and stated it was his decision. I see a lot of deals around the draft. I think some of the personnel brought in this offseason may have been coaching/Sullivan's call since he said he brings the coaches in to get their opinion on things during the offseason.
