That whole situation still blows my mind. Just madness that he basically forced his way out of two teams and they still gave him a monster contract. |

I criticized the Habs GM for giving up 2 30 something picks in last year's draft for Newhook instead of PLD. He also made a great move on both Monahan trades. I take me criticism back. In hindsight he was wise to stay away from PLD |

And we have no idea how hard it was for him to stay away from Dubois. Montreal fans are always looking for the next French Canadian hero. Newhook was a great pick up. |

That's such a weird mindset. I don't care where the guy comes from as long as he helps my team win. |

Kuznetsov to the Canes for a 3rd and 50% retained. He has another year on his contract after this, too. |

Doesn't really mean much at this point of the season, but sounds like a good chance that AA and Zaitsev could be back tomorrow. - Chunk
If it means that Tinordi sits, then the game will be more watchable. |

I'd like to take a minute to reflect on the Guentzal trade and compare it to the return the Hawks got for Kane. Specifically, there were people who complained that KD didn't get as much value out of the deal as he should have. Considering Guentzal is younger, and more productive this year than Kane was last year (not to mention everyone knew that he was playing through a significant injury) I think it shows that it's not just the quality of the player that matters. The conditions around the player and the market have huge implications on what the return can and will be. |

Don't take what Paul is saying out of context - the Quebecers love their hockey and are hospitable to good players from anywhere - Russia, Slovakia, USA, Sweden, Finland, wherever.
But to have a great one of their own from the Province with a Francophone name he would be worshipped like Beliveau, Lafleur, the Rocket and others were. Its just the way it is there. |

Wow looks like the Canes are finally going all in, still laugh about the 1st round pick being conditional if they make the SC finals, but at least they are willing to give it up and possibly have no 1st round pick next year.

Seattle has re-signed Eberle, 2 years @ $4.75 AAV. A potential UFA for the Hawks taken off the board. |

Oh, I'm sure. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like they almost go out of their way sometimes to land such a player. I know there is always extra interest if/when the Hawks draft or sign a Chicago area kid, but that normally seems to be more of a coincidence than a concerted effort to do so. |

Yea and if he doesnt work out you have 3 more years at $3 mil, instead of 7 more years at $8.5 mil.

Eberle resigns with the Kraken 2 x $4.75 so that is one FA possibility for the Hawks off the board. |

Have Jordan Eberle and Sam Gagner ever been seen in the same room together? Not sure why, but whenever I hear one of these two names, I always think they are the same guy. |

I absolutely love this intro from the Leafs writer today:
After consecutive 4-1 losses to the Boston Bruins on Monday and Thursday (the irony of that score cannot be lost), the Toronto Maple Leafs have to be questioning where their club is and how optimistic their outlook should be six weeks from the Stanley Cup Playoffs and with hours remaining before the NHL Trade Deadline. |

Blackhawks legend Malcolm Subban traded from St Louis to Columbus for future considerations.
I have a feeling that this future considerations-guy will be on the move a few times today. |

The Leafs went out and improved their defensive defensemen but they still have to address the elephant in the room, Matthews, Marner and Willie Bystander the three Regular season Superstars who have a penchant for hiding when things get rough. |
