It’s amazing how you try these mic drop lines when you prove my point for me

The Sabres go up 1-0 on an EV goal from Skinner

Then the teams trade ST goals.

Take those ST goals out and it’s still a 1 goal lead by the Sabres and Vegas ties it 1-1 and the Sabres still win by multiple goals

You love to pick and choose what ST goals matter

Just be happy you didn’t get that dumbass “Pepperidge farm remembers” line.

He landed Alex tuch at least

Greenway is probably his best trade though lol

- Boss34

Funny how quickly things chance. Jack and Sam trades looking like huge L's now. Risto trade has given them no help. Montour trade might be the worst of them.

Greenway is OK. The idea that they can draft BPA every year and then make moves to address other areas has failed catastrophically so far.

Agree to that post about finding the right player at the Bumper position 9n the PP to bring what Samson does now forthe Panthers and used to bring forth Sabres

Penchant for dumb closing one-liners aside…I do owe you an apology. I once said Boss was Flaccoville lite. That was unfair. Boss is the absolute king of being wrong, along with being the most toxic post-fitz poster. You do provide the occasional good point, and I appreciate your insights on prospects.

We are all human beings, there is no 100% accuracy with any of our takes.

I am right far more often than when I am wrong.

Even the deal I supposedly didn’t hold my end of the bargain on was predicated on the Sabres starting a run in January and keeping alive in the playoff race, meanwhile moving the goal posts was entirely predicated on them playing at 100 point pace since then.

It is what it is

2023/2024 season to date:

Even strength:

12th in 5v5 Goals%
13th in 5v5 Goals for
10th in 5v5 Goals Against

+12 goal differential.

Special Teams:

PP: 29th in Goals%
PK: 15th in Goals%

2022/2023 Full season:

Even Strength:

19th in 5v5 Goals%
4th in 5v5 Goals for
28th in 5v5 Goals Against

-7 goal differential

Special Teams:
PP: 8th in Goals%
PK: 16th in Goals%

Like I said, the PP is (frank)ing this team.

Jesus Christ

- Swedish_Jesus

Yeah it’s definitely been a big factor. I’ve not denied that.

And for the Special teams don’t matter debate thing I’ve always said if you’re special teams are horrible it absolutely makes a big difference

But like Lunaion said, people pick and choose what games/goals matter when there’s additional context needed.

A lot of the games the PP struggled the team just didn’t look right as a whole

Which also holds some merit, but there is enough evidence to suggest that special teams has been a huge culprit in their inability to get games past regulation.

Both statements can be true

Both are true. You’d be an idiot to say ST hasn’t had an effect. But I think the larger effect was the team shifting from their identity

This, which is on coaching. Instead of going from A to B to C, they went from A to C.

I think literally every problem this season has been on coaching. The roster construction isn’t terrible but the personnel use has been.

Dahlin, Power, Clifton, Samuelsson, Johnson, Johnson should have been the 7 dmen. Jokiharju should have been traded after we signed Clifton/Johnson.

Skinner, Thompson, Tuch, Cozens, Peterka, Greenway, Mitts, Krebs, Quinn that’s your top-9. Girgs, Jost, Okposo is line 4. Olofsson also should have left with Joker.

I said UPL, Comrie, Levi to start in that order.

The coaches are trash, their heads are dumb, they failed the team from top to bottom.

If I had to rank problems for this year I’d probably go -

1. Coaching
2. GM
3. Special teams
4. Clifton and Johnson making us worse than Lyubushkin/Bryson etc
5. No Quinn replacement
6. Taking 1/3 of the year to play UPL frequently
7. Injuries

Every year under Pegula:

1) Ownership
2) Front office
3) Environment/culture
4) Roster construction

Coaching is obviously the number 1 issue by far. The list of simple questionable calls like playing Erik Johnson over Ryan Johnson all year is a joke.

GM wise. I think we have a talented overall roster that Donnie wasn’t / isn’t using correctly. Many many mannny more questionable calls like that

And yeah. If Donnie is never going to be fired. The Pp / pk coach should be

Roster has talent but I think our standards are too low. They’re a bubble/wild card level roster. They should’ve done more

That's the frustrating part. This is a team who should have made the playoffs...and been swept in the 1st round by the 1/2 seed.

They had the cap + assets to do much better than EJ, Clifton, Jost, Girgs, Okposo, Robinson, Comrie. Absurd to bring VO back.

The coaching part.

Ok, I get the part about communication and pregame whatever. Fantastic.

But can we just try and be a little honest about how the coaching didn't get the players playing a winnable style of game?

So for the Will He Get Fired crowd... Prepare for disappointment.

Some other tells in this article as well as to their aims and ambitions over the next couple months. Which is an orgasmic level of conversations.
