Tocchet says that Petey has been just “ok” & “sporadic”. Says at times he’s rested in practice to be fresh in games. He believes that guys need to practice hard to play well in games & Petey has improved there.
Also asked if the “noise” might be having an effect. He said yes. “He’s human” #Canucks

Not out of the ordinary. He's handling the outrage much better than Miller did last season who is older and supposed to be more mature. Maybe Petey will be better for it later like Miller ended up being. Or maybe people are successful at running him out of town... we'll see.

Tocchet is acutely aware of this. Says he’s prepared to take ice time away from players who are taking too many penalties.
Also said that he “hates when guys snap their head back” and believes they’ve been handed at least 3 penalties from that since the ASB. #Canucks

Zadorov 27
PDG 17
Cole 15
Miller 12
Hoglander 10
Myers 10

Mikheyev is going to get a lot of minutes with zero penalty minutes. Bound to break his slump then.

This is so true but people will probably hate on you for saying it. Miller's play fell off a cliff last year

Don't forget Petey has only 8 PIMs on the season

There was an article on the Athletic earlier in the year about players in contract years. One of the agents they talked to said some guys can handle the pressure, some guys just need to get a contract done so they don't wilt. This is the first big in-season contract moment for Petey, wonder if he's feeling the pressure to perform for it now.

Something I noticed about him when he got called for a minor last night. Didnt say poop or stare at the refs...quickly skated straight to the box...kept his mouth shut and sat down. He gets called Pouty but look at Myers. He clearly high sticked someone as the replay showed, he argued it wasn't his stick all the way to the box. Followed later by Boeser getting called and whining all the way to the box about it.

I'm of the mind that his confidence move of waiting and betting on himself was a mistake. He overestimated his confidence and underestimated the local media and negative fans in this market and their relentlessness of fabricating stories. But like I said, he's still handling it better than the player on this team who gets credit for being the vet leader so when you think about, at 25, it's a good sign he hasnt been baited into a meltdown. By the time he's Millers age he should be pretty seasoned to that crap.

Pettersson is one of the least pouty players on the entire team, the irony of people calling him that is off the charts.

He doesn't complain about penalties because he is so aware of his body and stick at all times that he definitely knows when he's done something wrong. That's also the reason he takes so few, he has very good self control.

You know you never hear much about him talking to the Sedins but I really wonder if they ever mentor him 1 on 1 behind the scenes. It's such a unique position to have guys who are from the same place as you and had to deal with so many of the same situations.

It just goes nowhere if playing the refs. Go out & play & stick to focussing on beating the other team & the details for winning.

I remember the crap they went through. In fact, with at least one person in here it's a carbon copy. Obsessed with tearing "the sisters" apart day after day. It went on for years and years. Always spinning narratives... non stop with the ridiculous trade rumors. Twitter wasn't a thing back then either... couldn't imagine how silly it would have gotten with the people who's emotions are on twitter's leash.

Who are the guys with nicknames that are not deserved because of ref whining? How does any of that make sense. Explain if you can.

Things like twitter has only increased world hysterics & dumbed down ppl in all societies. Ppl cannot differentiate properly & too often it is a gangbanging atmosphere. Ppl latch on to almost anything if not everything & opinions are fine but doesn’t mean they are valid. Good discussions & debates not everyone is suited for. Majority is rarely right for a good reason.

Let’s just hope we can run the weirdo out of town before we commit $100 mill. 🙏

We can count on Hughes getting his turn... as well as Demko and Lekker and who ever has a slump regardless of how good of a career they are having on and on and on to no end.
