I dont think the pens should sign jake to north of $10M for 8 years and i think a few teams will write that check so i hope the pens trade him and dont lose him for nothing. A 37 year old jake making $11.5M on a team in a clear rebuild is not what they should be doing.
I know that jake has similar #s to nylander but 8 yr/$92M is robust for the pens and nylander is 2 years younger (but has less playoff success). But i do think he will get over $10M elsewhere. |

NJ has a goalie and defense problem, let's solve that by adding Vatrano |
|
|
|
So Montreal, with no cap space, and sitting 3rd last in the conference, is going to outbid all other teams and make the best offer for Guentzel. And even though Guentzel has a 12-team NTC, which tends to include all Canadian teams, we have to assume his NTC allows for a trade to Montreal. And then, by the time he returns from injury, he plays a dozen or so games for Montreal, which by then will be meaningless games. The whole premise is that Montreal can then convince Guentzel to re-sign a long-term extension instead of become a UFA. So instead of just trying to sign him as a UFA, you can give up assets now, let him experience being a Hab for 10-12 games, and based on that convince him to sign a long-term contract. I guess it all makes sense when you think about it. He would look really good with Caufield who is also American. Wisconsin and Nebraska. |

Jake without Sid is just an ordinary third round draft pick He fell into a great situation for him and that is good for him.. BUT he will not find Sid anywhere else and like Warren Young will not prosper like he did here. Not worth the long term money Use that money to get younger not older. Common Sense is needed here which is sorely lacking in our society today Joey Biden lacks all COMMON SENSE |

Agree, except we show a 5.5M cap space ?
plus it is expected Allen will be dumped somewhere soo, for like a 4th rounder |

Aunt Jemima is better at faceoffs than Novak.
Sabres are not trading for a Center who can't win faceoffs.
Eating ice cream before bed is what gives you these bizarre dreams/rumors Ek.
It's been happening since you were a kid. Discipline is all it takes, put down the spoon after 6pm.

My bad. You are correct. Deadline space is about $5.5M. That makes this whole Guentzel scenario even more likely. I clicked on Ek's rumour chart and the free preview is Guentzel. There is a 35% chance he is traded to Montreal. Knowing that they have $5.5M of deadline space I would probably increase those odds to 40% or even 45%. |

its probably not more than 5%, but we are looking for a winger more than anything else and I expect them to pull a rabbit out of their arse again
but it should be at the draft... |

If you need a winger, rather than pay a premium to acquire an American-born winger who likely won't have any interest in signing an extension...you can just wait for free agency. Options include Reinhart, Arvidsson, Duchene, Kane, Eberle, DeBrusk, Teravainen, Marchessault, Perron, Mantha, Henrique, Tarasenko, Toffoli. Those are just a few off the top of my head. Some of course won't make it to UFA. But many will. Seems more logical than paying a premium for an injured American winger to play 12 games and then leave. Then of course there is the option of trading for a winger with term. That's easier at the draft. I don't have any sources though. Just a fan. |

Guentzel has confirmed that Vancouver is on his no trade. I wouldn’t be surprise if Edmonton was the only team in Canada not on the no trade with McDavid being there when he signed his contract. I think he likes Pittsburgh but can see the writing on the wall.

What's the source on that? Also the most common use of NTCs is that the list gets updated annually. |

A family friend plays in the NHL and used to have an NTC. I asked him last summer how he comes up with the list of teams? It's a mix of factors. Your agent/lawyer will usually advise against moving to Canada mid-season without the proper tax planning. So when you see guys with a 10 or 12-team list, it's almost always the 7 Canadian teams. Then the player may add organizations based on personal preference - I don't want Arizona. I don't want to play for Torts. I don't want to be traded back to my previous team. I want a Cup so let's add Columbus. Etc...
But if your main motivation is to win a Cup, then Guentzel may have structured his NTC to name 12 bottom-feeders (aka Montreal) but be open to contenders like Edmonton, Toronto, etc...
It's usually an annual exercise for the agent to clarify the terms of the NTC. So it may change year-to-year.

No doubt player preferences weigh heavily. I think the biggest factor regarding Canadian markets versus American is not the tax differential but rather the market pressures. Even in a dedicated US hockey market most players have normal patterns of life in the area compared to Canadian markets with regards to fan harassment and media scrutiny. |

Considering that Sid/Geno/Letang all took less than they could have gotten in the open market it makes it seem crazy to overpay for Jake. At the same time, they are much better with him than without him. It would be ideal to resign him but if they can't they have to trade him by the deadline. |

Parayko is on there. With only 1 year left on his contract and similarities to Hedman, he's going to fetch a ransom! This is why $20 is a bargain. It's a couple of Starbucks for a year of great content.

More importantly, will Scotty Perunovich play tomorrow? His nickname in college was scorin’. When will he score his first NHL goal? Is he better than Rosen?

Who? The always injured guy or the guy that has spent almost this entire season in the minors(damn I’m drunk, hard to type ha ha. Damn fat thumbs). Perunovich will get his 1st goal. Probably off of a pass deflected in by the opposing team. Rosen has not shown ME anything. I like Perunovich more in the limited time he has played. I’m more interested in Bolduc. I want to see his 1st game tomorrow. Why call him up just to sit? Blues are still in a playoff spot. Keep it up. Get into the wildcard spot. New season begins. Ha ha. Blues will get crushed in the 1st round |
