I’m not saying I agreed or disagreed with the calls but you have to find a way to close out a game with a three goal lead late in the third. This is not some new occurrence either this has been happening all season now with two different coaches. I agree a couple of the calls were weak but I’ll reiterate that it’s expected. That’s NHL officiating.

The real problem is the isles consistently put themselves in that same situation constantly. It’s been tough to watch for a while now. I’m really happy to be mostly disconnected emotionally from this team this season. Kind of saw the writing on the wall during the off-season. 😂

Bourbon?

The thing is, if the Islanders even had a below average PK, we'd be saying, "Mayfield nearly blew another game with that dumb penalty", instead of "Mayfield blew another game with that dumb penalty." But the Isles have THE WORST PK in the entire NHL, and it's going to cost them a playoff spot.

Yes it has been helpful 😆

Yeah their pk is abysmal but that’s one of many things that’s not going right for them.

It may be best at this point. It may be the only thing that will wake the organization up.

Owners need to wake up and stop kissing Lous old ass. It's time to get an younger gm who is more in tune with today's nhl. Also, one who will let them have some facial hair. 😄
Seriously though, times up on Lou.

The refs made some weak calls for sure. In regards to Lou, you're right. He has not been good in over 10 years. Destroyed the isles farm. If they get that fixed up they will be in good shape. Pretty wild game yesterday. Usually as a rangers fan we are on the other side of that win

I don't have any real gripe with the Barzal and Mayfield penalties. Barzy got his stick into the midsection and that gets called these days more often than not. Mayfield reached his stick in (nowhere close to the puck) and that got called. It was a trip. I think theres an argument that the prior Mayfield penalty behind the net was pretty marginal but you know if you're up by two, they're going to call it tight.
It's just dumb hockey really. Barzy knows damn well he's going to get called in that situation and Mayfield is just a really reckless player. The team will likely miss the playoffs because they've continued to take undisciplined penalties like this at times where they should be thinking their game through the most.

What happened to star players like Barzal getting the benefit of the doubt like other sports? Nobody pays to see Refs make calls and especially not in crunch time.

Never was a fan of stars 'getting the benefit of the doubt'. An infraction is an infraction. He reached in, got his stick completely across the midsection.

If they wanna stay out of the box, don't give the refs a reason.

This team has somehow become weak mentally. You put a little pressure on them and they panic, start running around and fold like a 2 dollar suitcase. The fact that they are the only team in the entire league without an empty net goal just goes to show that they're chasing the play and can't get control of the puck.

I'm not defending the Islanders sloppy play. This team has real issues not coaching related. I'm just not a fan of a lot of calls and especially late in games.

No one is, but they can't expect the refs to just ignore them either. That Barzal penalty gets called well over 90% of the time these days. They 'could' have maybe called an embellishment on Lafreniere for Mayfield’s final penalty, but the reality was he carelessly reached into his skates and it appeared to be an obvious trip.

This continues to be a predictable pattern and when it's said and done for this year, the Isles lack of late game discipline (Mayfield especially) did them in.

One would question the timing of these calls. But if I am a player, you know it is coming late in the game. They do not appear to be mindful of this. These blown games remind of a period during the Milbury era where the Isles lost games in the last minute, even seconds of a game.

Good teams find ways to win. This is just not a good team. I mean it is good enough to give you false hope. Thats about it. It is not a playoff team.

Firing Lambert was necessary, getting Roy is a positive. It is a start towards something better. More pieces need to fall.

Here’s hoping a missed playoff season will lead to that very thing.

It seems the owners have given Lou full autonomy as to what his own future holds. Not sure if that’s true but that’s the impression I get…

Because there's no turnover on this roster. Put in your time and you'll get a "thanks for being a loyal solider" contract. And lately you don't even need to put in much time to get your deal. There are no prospects beating down the door to steal an aging vet's job. There's complete job security for these guys.

I obviously don't think they're coming to work with the mindset of "this is great, I don't have to try that hard and I'll still get paid millions and keep my NHL job" but lack of competition and very little fear of being moved (or none, for some guys) breeds complacency.

They need a slap in the face and to have the rug pulled out from under them. A move that pisses them off and/or scares them into getting their act together. Lambert must not have been all that well-liked because getting him fired clearly didn't do it. I don't know what the right move is, but something needs to happen. Maybe Nelson gets moved at the deadline, maybe Lee gets bought out in June, maybe Palmieri or Pageau gets bought out in June, maybe Mayfield gets banished to Bridgeport...I don't claim to have the answer but there needs to be a significant change.

Exactly right chief! These are the issues with the team. This is still mostly Garth's roster. Lou has simply not done a good job with the Roster. It was mostly Barry's coaching that brought the team to two ECF. Barry still had his challenges outside those runs.

It's very hard for young players to break into this roster with these long-term contracts and the vets know it.

Lou did a lot of good with the roster, he got them the pieces they needed to make the long runs that they did. But he's made lots of mistakes too and, now that the results aren't showing up on the ice for multiple seasons, something has to give somewhere.

Maybe that comes in the form of Lou getting rid of one or more popular players, maybe that comes in the form of a front office change. I don't know what it is, but changing nothing will....well, change nothing.

And it's not that the abundance of vets are making it hard for the young players to get a roster spot...there are no young players to take roster spots. The Islanders have one of the worst, if not the worst, prospect pools in the entire league.

At this point, they have about exactly two weeks to go on a heater and prove to Lou that, at the very least, he shouldn't sell.

Otherwise, the deadline is two weeks from this upcoming Friday and he should sell almost anything he can...which isn't much unless he decides to do something unexpected like trade Nelson/Pageau/Palmieri.

I can live with appeasing Martin/Clutterbuck (potentially) not wanting to be moved because the return would be extremely minimal anyway.

JGP helped and Palms I think could have helped more during those ECF run. There was not the Bo Horvat type move that really could have put the team over the top. I think the team was more a product of Barry's coaching than roster moves.

We know MacLean has showed something. Ruslan may be able to show something given the chance. The issue is Lou likes a mostly vet team. The NHL is more youth, speed, and skill and Lou has not adjusted.

If getting embarrassed by their biggest rival at a high-profile league event on national television doesn't get them fired up enough to get their poop together then nothing will.

Hell, apparently Scott Mayfield deleted his Instagram account like 10 minutes after the end of the game
