All reports i have seen and from listening to the 960 its been said a 2nd + a near if not ready prospect for Tanny. Because Toronto doesn't have a 2nd available, Conny is trying to wait for TO to offer their 1st. Leafs have already said no to that, Conny is waiting it out thinking he'll get it if they get desperate. Could bite him if Tanev gets hurt.

So he does want a 1st, gotcha.

The next 2 weeks will bring us all the answers I guess.
Grz is a pending UFA and is making 3.687... whats his next deal worth 5 mil?
Swayman is a pending RFA and is in line for a big payday too.... no way they keep him and Ulmark so that will free up more $ for them. Debrusk and Looch will be gone too so they have some flexibility your not factoring in.

I can't see anyone giving him 5 million. Maybe someone goes to 4. But he's also from Boston and has stated his desire to stay. I could see him extending close to his current salary or even a bit lower if they were willing to give him 4-6 years. I realize they have the space to extend Hanifin if they want to. It just doesn't make any sense to do so when they're already spending so much on defence. Is Hanifin worth 7 million if he's not playing 24 minutes a night in every situation? It makes way more sense for them to go after someone like Lindholm with the cap space they'll have.

If Boston trades for Hanifin it will be to play with McAvoy. Hanifin is better than what’s there right now, and who’s to say they intend to resign Grzelcyk? Just cause he’s from the area means didlely squat. It’s like EK claiming THall wants to sign in Calgary because that’s where he grew up, in other words no one knows for sure.
I do know, we as fans are waiting for the trades to start, it’s the most exciting thing this team has going for it.

Yeah, no one knows for sure where he wants to play. This quote from Grzelcyk from a month ago doesn't hint at all to where he wants to sign.

“Obviously, I’ve only played for one team, and it’s my childhood dream to play for this team, so I know exactly where I want to be for sure,” Grzelcyk said. “It’s been special to not only play for the Bruins but to just play on such good teams every year. It’s something that I definitely don’t take for granted.”

What if the Boston Bruins decide not to bring him back after this season or trade him before the March 8 NHL trade deadline?

“I don’t even allow myself to think about it; it’s just too weird,” Grzelcyk said. “Like I’ve said, I’ve been a Bruins fan my whole life, so I’ve kind of grown up with that, and it’s all I’ve known since I’ve been out of college, so hopefully that day doesn’t come, and I’m going to try and not think about it until then.”

Trading and/or Paying 7 million for Hanifin to play with McAvoy is a waste of resources. Hanifin's role would be greatly diminished. You don't need someone like that when McAvoy is doing all the heavy lifting. You want a guy like Hanifin to anchor your second pairing. They already have Lindholm for that.

Hanifin makes the Bruins slightly better, but it also means they won't be able to make the moves they need to make to address the actual problems the team has.

Well now that Lindholm is out week-to-week maybe Hanifin could be an option, but I still suggest they use what little pieces they have to upgrade their C's not D.

Flames have a winning record since trading Lindholm. 4-3
Huberdeau over a point per game in that same time frame..

Why would any team want to improve their top pairing?

I think you will see Tanev end up on a bubble team, like St. Louis, who could use a top 4 right-shot defenseman.
St. Louis has an extra 2nd and 3rd in this draft, also maybe a prospect like Zach Dean.

As far as Hanafin goes, I could see Winnipeg, or Nashville taking a run for his services, I don't believe the Bruins will take much of a run at him.

It now looks like Conroy is trying to get a 1st for Tanev. If it was a 2nd, then I think he’d be gone by now.
I could see Winnipeg dealing for him.

You know there's been a salary cap for almost 20 years, right?

No sh!t? You know teams always find a way to balance the salary cap every year? If they see it as a way to improve their team, they’ll find a way to make it work.
Where does that crystal ball you have show him going?

The fact that Hanafin has been doing well on PP1 is huge.

I am happy that they are getting pics and young players.......

BUT

They still need to get a couple years of bottoming out to get some really high pics.
