I'll always remember this Unibroue beer. It was the single most disappointing beer I've ever had.

It was tucked away in the corner of a gas station's beer fridge in some small town near Maniwaki, and it was really cheap. They must have stored it near a heater for a few years lol. It ended up tasting like a mix between a bad saison and a lager basically. Nowhere near what it should have tasted like.

The day I drank that beer I saw a duck with a Mohawk. It had a duckling. I fed them bread. Every day she showed up with more ducklings. I think she was stealing them.

I also spent that entire week drinking beer from Quebec that I had never had before. Hell of a week that was.

There's your happy story.

LTM's 10th anniversary beer

Drank one last weekend. Very good, but bad fit on a hot summer day. It's a winter after-ski/racquet beer.

It was shockingly good. Of course, it's actually brewed by Unibroue.

Not my usual swing, you'd know better than me.

I can say that he initially served it cold, (but guy's 85 and cool and built rockets so he gets a pass), so after I warmed it in the glass a bit it was exceptionally well balanced - deep malt very smooth and just enough hint of spice at the back to get you ready for the next sip - spices never built up.

General rule, I hate Brown Ales.

Brooklyn makes a nice lager, I've had their chocolate stout before (dece), and I hear good things about their big bottles but never actually tried.

Brown Ales taste like I imagine turds would. All of them. Though I haven't had the DFH, I'd imagine the hopsgasm is the main things you end up tasting.

You want a brown beer*? Get a Marzen or a Bock, or get a black Porter or a stout. Brown ales are this middle ground that consistently manage to capture the worst of all kinds of ale into one poopty beer.

well i am mostly a porter and stout drinker.

but i have had a few brown ales i liked.

try that dogfish head one if you get a chance though. i'm telling you, it's nothing like any of the others. i can almost guarantee you'll like it. i've never met anyone who said it was anything other than delicious, even people who normally won't drink beer like that.

i don't have a ton of experience with marzens or bocks but i just looked them up and they look like something i'd try for sure. i think i had a chocolate bock once that was pretty good even though iirc i was told i was going to dislike it.

I'll peep it, ty Kicky. I've had a few black IPAs before, about half were very good. My favorite was from Prohibition Brewery in SF, they'd serve it in quart-sized mason jars at my favorite beer spot in town.

Had a Burmese spot in Oakland that had Boddy's on tap. 40 oz frosted mugs.

It was also the main bitter available in Manchester back when I was young-ish and living there.
