Ontarioians can now buy (6 packs only) beer in some grocery stores, but have to sell at the exact same inflated prices in the government run "Beer Store".
Example Budweiser @ $2.29 per can.

In Quebec, where there is no government control of the prices retailers can charge, you can buy a 60 pack of Budweiser @ $1.11 per can.

There IS a minimum price in Quebec... which is a bit more than $1 per bottle/can. But there isn't any price control further to that.

But you have to pay the deposit ($.05/341ml can, $.10/341 bottle, $.20/500ml can and $.20 or .30/other fancy beer bottles) and the 15% tax., so there's that.

But they just changed the law and the brewpubs will be allowed to sell growlers on-premise

And Quebec wines will be sold in grocery stores. That's pretty nice.

Good beer is competitively priced so I don't even care. Most Belgian ales and similar are actually cheaper here than in Buffalo and that's without taking exchange rate into account. Gets even cheaper when you do that.

Yeah, the LCBO has a much better than offer than the SAQ when it comes to imported beers, and they're often pretty cheap.

$3.35 for an Aventinus... I don't understand why I don't exclusively drink that.

It's actually around par with cheap beers in terms of how much it costs to get drunk off that. Scary.

They can get up there. We have sonoco gas station marts that fill growlers too.

Getting beer around here is never a problem. We even have stores that deliver.

Well the LCBO and SAQ have a pretty big purchasing power. But the SAQ uses it to get these cheap macro lagers from all around the world... and a couple of trappists and Schneiders.

All the American beer I get from Georgia (I have a hook up) is expensive too. Granted I typically just get sours and they are expensive anyway but $15 USD for a 500ml bottle is pretty intense and that's not the high end of prices, that's average. That's more than a TDD sour in Quebec.

Overall I'm not unhappy with our prices anymore based on how much the beer I prefer costs here vs elsewhere. If all I drank were IPAs I'd be mad. It's like $3.50 a can for a decent IPA here. Waaaaaay more than in Buffalo. Porters and stouts are too expensive here too.

Quebec is less than a 15 min drive from just about anywhere in Ottawa, and many of us buy all our beer there.
