Lindholm-McAvoy-Orlov that’s three top pairing caliber d-men right there.

Grezlyk (upon until this year) was always a solid top 4 guy.

That’s without bringing up Brandon Carlo.

That’s a tough d-corps to crack, not like he was sitting for scrubs

- Swedish_Jesus

McAvoy- absolutely. Lindholm has 19 pts this year and has been a major disappointment. Orlov played well during his brief stay, and ultimately priced himself out of Boston. He’s playing 3rd pairing minutes in Carolina, 18 points and is a negative-4. Carlo is a slightly better version of Clifton. My point is players that are brought into a proven system and know their role… often thrive… players come to an organization run by people who aren’t qualified…. Well, we continue to see the results

what do you think they saw in the 8th game that they did not see in the previous 7 games and countless hours of tape?
- homiedclown

Not much tbh. But Adams may be so hyper-cautious they're overdoing it. Just too much smoke there to not be a little fire at this point.

Good point and sure is. I'd be shocked if he doesn't surpass UPL at some point, he's just got more god given talent.

On the flip side of the coin, if you give UPL his 1 year, then Levi explodes, do you dangle UPL as trade bait?

- QuinnFan

It's Buffalo. Never rule out Levi being an AHL/NHL tweener and UPL's hip dying.

If they both excel, awesome.

Without looking at CF for status info, I would guess something like 2 years, maybe 3 at 2.5 - $3.0m seems to be fair to both sides... Dependent on how he finishes out this season.

Not that high, E3 or so.

Heard they're going to go hard for him or Guentzel. We're scouting the Avs again, and read that'll be 8 of their last 11 games we've had representation at. Something is brewing and we wouldn't be scouting long if it was Johnson headed back home.

- QuinnFan

Feels like an in-season trade with Colorado would be a futures type deal for the Sabres and that would be a hard sell to the fan base. Tough to get excited about the 24th pick in the draft and whatever prospect Adams knows because he played with Mark Recchi's nephew

At the time, all three were elite.

Since then, Orlov’s age is looking like it’s catching up to him in Carolina no doubt.

Lindholm’s offensive numbers are down but he’s still defending at a high end level which was his calling card to begin with.

I agree with your assessment that Clifton is a pretty good litmus test at the difference in structure between Boston and Buffalo.

neat.

kevo doesn't want futures, and colorado is a contender. i dont know what makes sense from them.

Their (poopty) first is included, sure. Lehkonen? Byram? Byram kinda sucks.

Clifton and Mitts for Girard, Johansson and Lehkonen.

Could be cool.

At this point I still think keeping Mitts even if it comes down to his 2 year Arb award is the best course of action for this team.

Yeah unless you're using him to get a top-pair RHD, what's the point

Calum Ritchie, not too bad... But an 18 yo will have the fans in full on revolt.

Edit - by Fans, I mean the 6 or 7 they have left.

Without their 2nd and 3rd this year, and 2nd next year, they're running low on picks. That late first doesn't get you Mitts either, so has to be something more.

Byram? Heard his name thrown out with Girard's, but he's my guess personally.

I'm ready for change, for the sake of changing, at this point. Mitts is loved in the lockerroom, it'd be good for the kids to see this isn't a popularity contest.

I don't mind Byram, but have heard similar takes. Statistically, he seems to suck with Johnson but be okay with Girard or Makar (of course).

Get ready for a Mitts to Colorado trade.

Dahlins bestie getting moved would be something. Also 2 cost controlled years left.

Very well liked guy that is actually good and leaves Buffalo.

Makes no sense

I also brought up Erik Johnson back to the Avs a couple weeks ago. They want him bad

Well said. I was always in the camp that wanted the Sabres to try and get Matt Grzelcyk. Always liked him and he’s a gamer. That’s a moot point now

I doubt this is it because EJ would just go there for a 5th or later (maybe even the illustrious Future Considerations). Has to be something bigger.

Conversations abound.

Taking it out on the wrong Johnson again. Not going to kill him though.
