It may ultimately galvanize the team and endear him to Leafs fans forever, but if they struggle with him out of the lineup for 6+ games and miss out on some important points it will probably end up being nothing more than a costly moral victory. - eichiefs9
It's not like he's new to their team. He's almost played 800 games for them. This discourse is getting old real fast
He is way more valuable to them on the ice then he is suspended for this nonsense. And they've been struggling recently as is. I don't understand arguing in defense of this from any angle (not saying you are) |

Yeah for sure, not implying this was as bad...but 21 games is an astronomical number of games for a suspension. Also Hunter had the history of repeatedly being a scumbag.
But I won't be surprised if Rielly gets in the neighborhood of 8 games, give or take 1. - eichiefs9
I'd be shocked by that. No history of suspensions for Rielly or injury to Griegg on the play. I see 3 or 4 as most likely, maybe 5 or 6 if they really want to make a statement. |

No, and a lot of Leafs fans probably already love him. But doing stuff like that, smart or not, will forever endear you to the diehard lunatic fans...of which Toronto has plenty.
The same reason Isles fans all remember Trevor Gillies after the Pittsburgh fight night game. He played all of 56 total games and amassed a staggering three points for the Isles, but any adult Isles fan that watched that game can recall his name instantly. |

It’s a fine line he crossed no doubt, drop your stick and gloves and start punching him. Gudbranson did that this year, I think cousins? Was it. Stick to the head just makes it two wrongs in this case

No one will remember this game when Morgan Reilly is retired unless they win the cup, and maybe not even then. |

I’m so tired TJ. So so tired. Who said no retaliation at all should have occurred? |

I think you're wrong. Understandable that you think that, given that you think his response was a mistake.
Reilly has been kind of polarizing to Leaf fans. Now, he will almost surely be remembered fondly by 99% of them. He will not cost them a playoff appearance, any more than you can point to one game out of 82 that costs them. They need to be better in many areas and an event like this is WAY more likely to bring them together and lift them up than it is to deflate them from missing his play.
BTW, what was your stance on our response to Wilson a while back? Necessary or irresponsible? |

Doing something to get suspended is dumb. Cross checking someone’s face is dangerous and dumb. Slapping it into an empty net from 5 feet way, while hilarious, is gonna draw a response. But anyone arguing smacking someone in the face with a stick in response to this, or in almost any situation in life, is a freak. There’s a million miles between doing nothing and doing what Reilly did. There really isn’t much nuance here coming from me. I’ve been saying exactly this since yesterday |

It wasn't an inherently memorable or important game, but I think that incident certainly made it memorable. Isles/Pens fight night wasn't a memorable or important game either, but it sure ended up being one. |

I remember the hit had Tangredi. Gillies was such a piece of poop. He was the only problem I had in that incident. Michael Haley was the event in that game I liked that most. |
