Gretzky won the art ross trophy 7 times in his first 8 seasons, McDavid has done it 5 times in his first 8 seasons.

Hard to believe Jamie Benn won the Art Ross in 2015 with 87 points.

When they build the new arena in Phoenix, Auston Matthews will come home and play for the Yotes, he has four years left on his deal, which will make him 31 years old. Perfect timing for him to come into a championship caliber team with the great drafting the Coyotes have done.

Why was scoring so low that year? Eight years in front of that year and eight years after that year it was all won by 100 point or more seasons.

McDavid has 917 points already???

Since Mario Lemieux, the greatest player of all-time, there have only been two generational players, McDavid and Ovechkin (goal scoring), what McDavid is doing is unbelievable in todays game.

- Pacificgem

Don’t think you can label Ovie generational and leave out Crosby. Fat and wrong

Wrong....OV has been a generational goal scorer, he scored 50 goals at age 36 and 42 at age 37. He's one of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history.

Crosby's been an unbelievable great player but his point totals are very similar to Joe Sakic through the same amount of career games. Both are next level players, but are not generational players IMO.

I really don't want to go to bat for McDavid, but wasn't he injured for half of one of those seasons and a third of another?
- NorthNuck

Draisaitl won the Art Ross one season with a higher PPG average than McDavid.

I wonder how deep into Gretzky's career you'd have to get before a teammate was outscoring him?

League average scoring over Sakic's career was 3.02 goals per game
League average scoring over Crosby's career is 2.69 goals per game

If you adjust the numbers it would give Crosby over 100 more points thank Sakic with 140 fewer games played

I don't think the increased average level of talent in the league is the best argument against him, how would Draisaitl have done in the Gretzky era?

Canucks scored 8 goals in 7 games, including only 3 goals in 3 games in Boston. Luongo wasn't great especially in Beantown, but he had two shutouts – he didn't choke the games away for them. Such a dumb and tired narrative.
- NewYorkNuck

All Lou had to do was steal one game in BOS regardless of the goal differential. You are the last person in here to be yapping about dumb narratives...

3 cups and however many gold medals say otherwise.

Crosby is for sure generational.

Folks focus so much on points and scoring without looking at the true intangibles that make generational players.

It's like saying Michael Jackson is the greatest musician of all time because he sold the most records...

Meh....I think most of the good teams only have one power forward type in their top six guys at forward, the Canucks are no different. They have three guys in the top 20 in scoring, two in the top 8, so they are doing something right. A puck retrieval guy would be nice though.

I suspect Lindholm and Pettersson are going to work really well together, if past history tells us anything, so they just need that one guy who plays a heavier game and can win some of those 50/50 puck battles in the corners.

- Pacificgem

They still need another top 6 forward. I said this the day they traded for Lindholm. They upgraded Kuzmenko's slot but are still short a top 6.

One injury to Miller, Petey, Brock or Lindholm and it's 3 bottom 6 players in the top 6.

Not deep enough for a long playoff run. Hogz is probably not the solution.... yet.

Drai has hung in there with McD will give you that for sure. Can't see Drai breaking 150 points in this era however.

What McD did last season was truly remarkable.
