Trading away a top 10 forward is never a good idea. Look what happened to Calgary.

It's so insane to consider moving your best forward while the team is in 1st place in the league

- NorthNuck

Totally a different set of circumstances. Still trading the so called best player in a trade is risky but comes down to the package in return. Do the Canucks have the talent depth to entertain the notion? Let’s start with saying yes. Then moves on to what team has the pieces & would trade them & PA would consider same pieces.

Who are those teams or what pieces would players would PA target? It doesn’t have to be in season.

Dhali saying the Canucks are scouting Xhekaj

...............................................................

This is a kid I have said I would like a few times on CF in proposals but got shot down by Canucks fans. They said he is a black hole defensively. That said I remember the same thing being said of Zadarov.

Kuzmenko for Xhekaj (cap relief) and our third round pick back.

Bottom feeder teams that had higher expectations be one avenue to explore. Their high 1st pick is involved. Buffalo, Ottawa maybe CBJ. The 1st & they’ve got some great young talent & deep in prospects.

Tage Thompson
Brady Tkachuk
Fantilli

Those start the convo for me.

In my mind when you have a player over a certain value, there is simply no way to recuperate enough assets to make it worth trading them. No matter what, you're going to come out as the loser in any deal, because elite players like Petey are incredibly scarce. Can you point to any deal for a player of his calibre that actually worked out well for the team trading the star?

He has a lot of similarities to Zadarov. He has a lot of big hits and is a fighter. Fought Reaves before Reaves was injured ( ). He is 22. He sort of reminds me of Juulsen who we stole from the Habs.

Normally I’d totally agree with you but once say 12m/year gets in the convo a GM has to think hard on the ramifications on that magnitude. He has to be absolutely certain the return is best for now & for many years. No other reason exists. That is the hinge point & the big risk. Either it’s the greatest of trades or ruins a team not much in the middle.

The difference between Vancouver and Toronto is that the other stars on this team are already cost controlled. Miller is signed for forever and Hughes has 3 more years after this one. Hronek will be extended this year and is an RFA. There won't be the same snowballing effect of letting every star player bend them over when it comes time for negotiations, because they don't have to make deals like the Leafs.

Not to mention the odds of another pandemic cutting down the salary cap is quite low

I don't think Pettersson has ever given the team any reason to not believe he can sustain his production and success long-term.

Top 5 in the 2024 draft has some top end maybe all are elite.

Other than Celebrini all are close to NHL ready probably more so in 2 years max. Stud type D & sniper Eiserman (1 dimensional) & raging up the ranks C Lindstrom.

Turtle told them he wasn't re-signing once he was a UFA. Context.

Yes to all of that 👍

It’s just Spitballin if push comes to shove for the fun of it. Cost control is seriously changed after resigning Petey & Hronek. On PA to get them signed & happy & the team happier. Lots of faith is put on PA from my perspective. The Leafs are unique & that’s their problem lol

I am not spitballin. I think Petey signs a one year 11 mil contract this year. Just a feeling I have nothing more. Like I said I don't think PA wants to sign a long term 12 mil plus deal at all.

Addresses the 2 biggest playoff needs. Big mean dman and a Big C that can play up and down the lineup, and in all situations. Monahan is UFA so no retention next year unless he signs cheap, and Jackeye is a monster kid that is cost controlled.

Fair, the player made the choice there, but at the time a lot of people were saying they made out really well on the trade with what they got in return. It all promptly turned to shit though

When I was a wannabe punk playing hockey there was leggings that had a separate colour that came from the top down over the knee not on the sides. Always thought it looked dope & wonder why nobody in the NHL has adopted it.

Big mean D is already in place. He’s not exactly an improvement & ready for these playoffs. Depth yes

I think Allvin would trade him before he ever signed him to a 1 year deal. His value would lessen if he's just walking himself into FA. Trading him lets another team try to sign him to a long term contract.

I think Petey does a 4 year deal. Sort of ties him to this core. Lets him get another massive contract at 29 – either still with the Canucks or as a UFA at that point.
