Silver lining here is they have 4 days off to practice and continue to work on the system Roy wants to put in place. If we sell I wouldn't mind seeing 44 21 go or 26 17. Casey takes pageau spot and Maclean takes over at 4c. Palms I like but wouldn't hate to see him go either. Martin is about cooked out there too and Wahlstrom is invisible. The problem here is if you move any of them you're at the least retooling and that's not a lou thing to do.

It's not a system problem it's a player problem. Team has not been the same since the last ECF and Lou's big offseason moves were bringing in Parise and Chara. Teams needs to go young. Young players are going to have the stamina and not get injured as much and can play more than two good games in a row.

He's made a few of these types of comments over the past year or so that have really disappointed me. I typically figured he's just giving 'public PR speak' and maybe being more amped in the lockeroom but I really have my doubts at this point.

My mention about Nelson's occasional work ethic lapses and callbacks to the country club days just makes me wonder if some of those guys are just a bit too laid back in their approach. Regardless, we've all talked in the past about how this team seems to lack leadership. At this point, maybe Horvat or even Barzal would be better suited to take that role. Unfortunately, you have to find a way to unload Anders to make that work, which I think is nearly impossible.

I just don’t understand how a team that doesn’t make the playoffs, gets knocked off in the first round and now looks like a non-playoff team again can be “comfortable” ever? I don’t care about money, don’t you want to win? I know if I was the captain of a team with 13 (frank)in overtime losses, I wouldn’t be able to say we’re proud of the point in any form or fashion.

The wild thing is if they won only about half of those OT losses (7pts) they'd be tied with the Flyers for 3rd in the Metro

OT and the SO is where the Islanders lack of skill really plays out.

Some players get comfortable with the long term contracts. Other players on the Islanders that want to win just have trouble keeping up in a faster more skilled NHL. Players, like Barzal, Bo, Dobson, and Sorokin can only do so much. Lou wants an NHL from the past and he has not kept up with changing times.

So what is the actual point of Martin? Didn't do a thing after gourde smoked Casey and horvat has tried to fight 2x now due to barzal getting hit. I know he wasn't out in those cases but he is pretty much useless at this point

Good question Upstate. MM and Cal are pretty much done.

He should have been moved into an office position with the team when he signed that last contract. Good guy, good Islander for years, but it was time to move on a couple years ago. Lou has a tough time identifying that.

Clutter still kills penalties and hits and is a pest out there

If he's moved that's a spot where you put a guy on a lower salary so you can add skill in the top six with cap space. Most teams don't spend that much on 4th liners to my knowledge also term either

Lou should've let him sit in the Leaf's press box. In essence Lou overpaid for Martin twice.

Good. They have plenty of time to recover before Sunday's game.

Where did you hear that?

Also, feel like I'm watching Miracle. Roy hasn't yelled at Desrosiers yet to blow his whistle...again.

But these guys are gassed and are being heavily pushed to the max today.

Seemed like a need after last two games.

May not be enough time with this team.

They looked gassed. Some of them look like they are staking through mud.

I don't think so. They could make it happen, but I think they dug too deep of a whole.

But kudos to Roy for trying.

Meant recover from the skate. Playoffs can still happen. Will be really tough though.

I think Clutter is a mid-range 4th liner at this stage. He was a pretty good player for the first few years we had him, but he really doesn't do anything that any other fringe player couldn't do

A 4th line of MacLean-Cizikas-Fasching next year will be good and appropriately priced. Casey's contract becomes a lot more palatable when his wings are collectively making under $1.6M instead of $3.25M.
