It was a flat game. It happens, that's just the way it is. Let Roy rip into them and hopefully they bounce back and play the way they have been playing.

I don't want to trade the 1st. However if Lou is going to make a trade I don't see anyway it doesn't get moved. Lou doesn't value picks and it's probably the only way he can get another team to take on some salary. But it's Lou, who knows what the guy is going to do.

You are correct it does happen. This team unfortunately doesn’t have the luxury of coming out half arsed if they have any hope of making the playoffs. Only positive for them is they lost to a western conference team not to a divisional rival.

He actually moved Engvall to Barzal’s line and put Lee with Nelson and Palms. Said he wanted Engvall’s speed on that line in the post game.
He also sat Wally for most of the third.
Wonder what the starting lines will be next game?

- nyisles7

He must be propping up engvall for a trade. He’s way too soft for anyone with half the intensity of Roy.

Agreed. I and I think most of us here thought they were a bubble team coming into the season. I don't think anything has changed. I'm hoping the Roy can get them going. Lane certainly couldn't, so they have more of a chance now.

Lou is the wild card. We have no idea what he will do.

I read he was going to throw Engvall more often on the first line due to his speed. 😆

I’m serious btw.

I think Engvall is better then what we’ve been watching but I’ve never been a fan. He skates fast. Every other part of his game is subpar imo. The only thing I see when I watch him is a player who should play as little mins as possible. For a player who has speed he doesn’t skate the puck out of the zone especially well. Most games this season he’s just kind of pointless out there.

Who knows maybe he finds a different level on the first line if Roy actually does that.

I think he sucks.

I agree, he sucks, I just don’t think he sucks as bad as we’ve seen. He’s a player that I think every coach would have a hard time finding a spot for because he’s not really great at anything.

If they make it in great if they don’t it’s pretty much what I expected. I don’t think I’ve been less invested in an islanders team over the last decade or so. Maybe Roy gets them to find another level but I’ve never wavered from feeling this lineup needs some new(young) blood.

I like Roy but unless they have some fairy tale end to the season they aren’t a contender. I’ve grown tired of hoping for some kind of miracle to occur for the last few seasons denying what’s plain as day to me.

There isn’t a (frank)ing team that would take 6+ seasons of that guy. That is a (frank)ing insane contract. 😆

They can try polishing that turd up as much as they want nobody’s buying. 😂

Always been a Nelson fan. Guy is a great player but he has periods where his effort is lacking. It’s an 82 game season most players experience it at some point. Very few players are going full bore the entire season.
- Cptmjl

I like Nelson, but he does have some Bailey tendencies. The 2nd line and the health of the defense are the biggest issues.

How does a team come out that flat after playing probably their best game of the season? It was the tail of two teams.

It happens but like I pointed out it doesn’t matter at this point. Calgary played a good game. Have to give the Flames credit but there was a complete lack of effort by us minus a few shifts. Decided to start playing the last five mins of the game which demonstrated the complete lack of effort before that.

I’m certainly not comparing Nelson to Bailey in any way. Like I said all players go through a period of ineffectiveness to some degree over the course of a season. Very few players are capable of playing at an elite level for all 82 games.

Also, Wahlstrom isn’t exactly winning anyone over. The kid has been borderline invisible with what little times he is visible it is of the bad variety.

I’m not even sure he’s tradable without eating some of that contract.

I'm not even talking elite level. Nelson is soft and his game away from the puck has not been good.

The guy is completely untradeable. You could eat half that contract and the team that takes it on is still stuck with him for over 6 years. It’s unmovable. Even if his play improved a bit nobody is taking on that aav and term.

The guy did score last night and got some rubber to the net. Almost scored another time and hit the post. He was probably one of the only players that was noticeable out there besides horvat/Barzal at times imo.

Not sure if he’s still trying to come back from that knee injury. Takes players a while to recover fully from an injury like that if that was what it actually was. Look at Lee. Problem is it probably won’t matter if he can’t find a way to step it up.

Before yesterday, Nelson has struggled. Nelson is not a 150 pound forward. He has to use his size more and get involved. Nelson is like Bailey in this way.

Nelson isn’t going to turn into some grinding fwd now. Lol

He is what he is which is great imo. Guy has been arguably our most consistent fwd for quite some time now also on a great contract I’ll add. Is he going to be great every game? No. That player doesn’t exist. They all go through periods of subpar play over an 82 game season. Hopefully his little rut is over…

We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one…

All of these guys struggle from time to time. It is the elite that tend not to have too much down time. Say what you want about his size and play, but he has been the best forward the Isles have had in terms of goal scoring in the last five years. I do not believe there is anyone with a better track record goal wise over that period.

Also, I do not think Nelson was ever thought of as a power forward. I would not however say he is soft either.

I see someone like Barzal who has worked on his game and is breaking up plays in the D zone and I’m not seeing this type of effort from Nelson. I also doubt Nelson would have stepped up like Bo did the other night when Barzal got hit. I’m not looking for Nelson to be MM or Cal in terms of hits. I just want to see more overall effort and some tougher play.
