Hey we will sign you for 8 million but you have to shave.
Where are the clippers Lou!
I love it but I’m an old school guy. You youngsters didn’t grow up with that.

I am with you. There is nothing wrong with having a clean cut appearance. Besides, if you really want the beard make the F'n playoff. LOL I would shave for a 100K...lol

Patrick Roy immediately making his presence felt, stopping drills, correcting, loudly making points. Obviously excited to be pushing up his sleeves and getting into it with #Isles .

Side note: It's weird seeing him hold a regular hockey stick, not a goalie stick.

Wonder if Roy brings in his own assistants?
You would think the goalie coaches would stay because goaltending has been pretty strong, but Roy may want to bring in his group.
It will be interesting to see.

- nyisles7

IF he comes back next season, I think you see him bring in his guys. I do not think he will mess with the goalie coaches given their relationships with Sorokin and Varly.

Kinda my thinking. May bring in another associate in the near future.
I think he will be back. Cotract had to be for at least this year and next you would think.

So, what free agent did this team not sign because of the clean-shaven rule??? It is pure speculation on your part. If someone wants to be here, they will be here.
- Nfdbulldawg

I’m not speculating anything, I just think it’s a dumb rule. How do you know guys didn’t go elsewhere because of it?

I wonder if there will be a renewed interest on Lameriello’s part to see what Roy can do with Wahlstrom or if that ship has sailed?

People need to remember that this kid came off a major knee injury. I know he had been frustrating. I know he has had some injury woes the past two seasons. But he is 23. He is an RFA. I give him one more year. If anything, to try and build up some value. Right now, you move him you might get a 4th rounder at best.

Lou not contacting Johnny did not help. Islanders have enough trouble without actually not contacting them.

Lou must have read HB and said why bother

Houda and MacLean still on website. Does Lou hire assistants too?

Winning should be the #1 priority, but two ECF trips did nothing to help attract FA’s. We will also hear the comments from the NHL world if the Islanders go back to a strict defensive system.
- ses111

A coach coaches to the strengths of their team. If that means this Islander team plays some form of the trap. I do not care as long as the team wins games. The Isles DO NOT HAVE THE SPEED OR FIRE POWER, to play a run and gun game. That is the bottom line.

Whether it is Taxes, the no hair rule, they have to kiss Lou's ring, or rub Lou's bald head with Brazilian BUM BUM Cream. Until this team can convince other elite players to come here. You need to coach to your strengths.

I didn’t realize that. But the isles site had Roy up and the assistants still there too so figured they’re still employed. Makes sense.

Agreed. It's not 1965, who cares about facial hair. I've never had a beard, but if my employer told me I couldn't I'd tell them to fack off.

I think only Lou and Roy know this answer. I am sure that there is an agreement in principle in place. I would think it depends on the outcome of the rest of the season.

No coaches typically hire their staffs. But you should ask Cpt he knows what Lou does and doesn’t do. That said I wouldn’t mind MacLean staying on. He’s done a good job With the PP.

Unknown for sure but would Roy leave his current situation without some kind of firm contract or commitment? I don’t know if I would.

Fans only care about winning, but many players look at other things like having fun playing a system and being able to put up points. Players have egos and they watch what other players are doing. I do not want run and gun but I also do not want to be very difficult to score goals like the past. You cannot just be very good on defense and lousy on offense. You need to be good at both ends of the rink.

I’ve also never had a beard, but I think it’s bizarre to not allow it in 2024 and especially for a team that is not known for attracting talent.

I thought you were talking about assistants earlier today. Maybe it was someone else. But I thought the head coach hired assistants, just wasn’t sure. I agree Maclean has done a good job with the pp.

I do not know. That is my point. I am basing it on no free agent has ever brought this issue to the surface. I would say there might be more of an argument of a defensive system being problematic to an offensive player.

However, my argument to that would be Barry getting Ovie to play defense. The end result was a Stanley Cup.

Caps had the pieces in place and better talent than the Islanders to win a Cup playing Barry’s system.

Agreed, you need balance. You need balance to sustain anything. You also need to think about your 8 million goalie. Do you think he is having fun back there right now? Facing around 35 shots a night? His Vezna bid slipping away after the top three finish last year? Know that a shooter tooter will give up less goals a game than Appleby.

They made trades and added those pieces. All those pieces were not in place before Barry.

Players buy into team systems and have their teammates backs without having to shave on the other 32 NHL teams. They’re professionals. I’m pretty damn conservative but if I had a choice between two employers that would pay me the same amount but I’d have complete autonomy at one over the other? I’d choose the one where I had more flexibility. I’m done with this. I only brought it up last night kind of kidding about Roy having a beard and having to shave it.
