100%. The fans are turning on him. His contract isn’t worth the numbers produced. The leafs are just a mess.

The same thing would have happened if he signed with the Isles. Except we would have him for an additional year. This is why I don't like these long contracts. The tail end is always horrible.

We would’ve had him for an extra year and some more money tacked onto the aav. Crazy when you think about it if we had Tavares during Covid we could have potentially won the cup.

I always wonder about that. The offense would have been much better, but would he have adapted to Trotz well? Would they have had the money to afford a guy like Pageau? I don't know if the team depth would have looked the same if he re-signed.

Anyway, two conference finals in a row wasn't a such a bad consolation prize

Could be wrong but I think he would have played well under trotz. Seems like a pretty structured person and player. Who knows how the team would have looked though as you pointed out.
Have to think the team would have been better playing under trotz with the offense Tavares would have added.

😂

Imagine getting a 15.25 million dollar bonus and having to pay 8 million in taxes on it? Gtfo that’s absolutely insane. I wish him the best in that fight.

Yeah, probably shouldn't have led with that thought. Really, more than anything, I wonder if the alleged $12M price tag would have been prohibited Lou being able to round out the team the way he did. Certainly would have lead to more offense which would have helped, I just don't know if Barry would have been able to roll four suffocating lines the way he did

Yeah that's (frank)ing wild

I'm curious why they're only focused on the first year's bonus. He gets a monster bonus every year on July 1st, breakdown of each year below:

He's presumably going to get the shit audited out of him with frequency now, so I wonder if they're going to come after more than half of every other bonus too?

Are they going to try and collect like $37M in back taxes from him?

He may only be the first player. If he loses expect them to go after every big bonus. It could hurt the Canadian teams.

Yep, DFO article speculates on that. May also hurt his chances of re-signing with the Leafs. Maybe he'll end up going to sign with one of the Florida teams or Dallas or something.

It’s an interesting question. I’m not sure if he would have liked Barry’s system. It would have been nice having JT during the two ECF runs, but not so much now.

I would love to see him resign with the Islanders due to the spectacular comedic event it would be with the fanbase.

To be fair I’m not sure there are many players that do/would but I don’t really care what they like. As long as we have them that’s what matters.

It would be pretty funny

I think he'd head to a no income tax state if he owed a big tab to the Canadian govt though

It helps if they are happy and buying in though. Offensive numbers are very important to many players like JT. Fans do not have to care about these things.

I've definitely thought about this, wondered if he'd take number 92 since 91 is retired now 😂

He wore 61 when he went to London and 91 wasn't available.

Anyway, I highly doubt he's coming back here after getting repeatedly trashed by the fans for the last 6 1/2 years and I don't have much interest

Casey Cizikas (LTIR) is in a regular #Isles jersey.

Had been in a non-contact sweater since Sunday.

Lou doesn't allow high numbers . That's why he left in the first place. Plus he doesn't like to shave and his wife wanted to go home. Ha

He allows them for established vets and 2/3 of those reasons you gave for him leaving are...not true. Not even sure if the 3rd one is actually true or not.

Looks like #Isles will face G Jonas Johansson tomorrow night as #GoBolts are going with Andrei Vasilevskiy vs. #NYR tonight.

That's good news

Nothing better than sweeping the Leafs and seeing that touchhole cry like a little girl. Best was last night was in a win in regulation and my boy Engy was the winner. Love that guy, lol 😝
