Nice beat down all over JT. That was his guy. I love the man in man D zone. It’s your guy no excuses!

The team just holds on for its dear life at the end all the time huh?

Good game. There are some noticeable changes to the on-ice structure that have improved their play. Additionally the team seems more inspired, as typical after a coaching change. I thought Pulock looked surprisingly sharp for a guy who has missed significant time. Mayfield still had a few weak clearing attempts but played positionally sound. Engvall was understandably charged to face his own team, using the body and battling for pucks. Of course that effort makes some of his less-inspired performances all the more frustrating. I thought Wally was having a decent game until his boneheaded penalty, which almost cost them the game. He'll get an extended look, but that probably didn't help his cause. Nelson's lack of intensity annoys me at times, but his elite shot keeps him in good graces. Sorokin was really positionally sound tonight and had much better rebound control. Perhaps it was the time off, or maybe Korn and/or Roy refocused him. Barzy and Bo were great as expected
All in all a promising start to go-time...

A solid game after a week off. Not sure we would have seen a similar outcome had Lambert still been overseeing this team. If Roy can keep them at this level, they may sniff the playoffs. Let's see what the next 5 bring.

They played a great game. Wahlstrom with that unnecessary, bone headed penalty late in the third isn’t exactly helping his cause. They keep up at this level of play they could sneak in.

It’s tough with a young player like Wally trying to prove himself and you take a bad penalty with a team fighting for the playoffs.

That looked like the Sorokin we're used to. I hope he keeps that going, some improved play in their own end certainly contributed to that but that was one of his best performances of the season.

It has to help that the Islanders weren't hemmed in their own zone the entire game. Although there were stretches in their zone, there were also long stretches where they were playing in the Leafs' zone. That by itself is a welcome change, and has to give Sorokin a little rest during the game.

Yeah it was a pretty solid game all around, almost ruined by an exceptionally-stupid penalty.

The Leafs have a real skilled forward group so getting locked down in your own end at times is certainly expected and they did a pretty good just weathering those storms.

The improvements slowly seem to be coming around under Roy. Someone pointed out that the Isles have hit the under in every game (maybe almost every game?) with Roy behind the bench, so the bleeding looks to be slowing. If they're able to start to cut down on the shots against I think things will really start looking good.

Maybe the Allstar break did him some good. With varlamov’s injury he could’ve been over worked. Hopefully he can keep it going.

The players seem to really like playing for Roy and it seems more than a system thing with Roy. Defense had to improve, but so did the offense. It cannot just be about defense and the offense suffers. Islanders have to be solid in all facets of the game and they have to be more than a defensive team.

Watching the game now and love horvat dropping the gloves. Don't want to see that too often but the guy is a player for sure. Still love the deal let's hope they get it together under Roy and with 3 and 6 back too. I think they will be buyers at the deadline but hope the 1st isn't part of the deal unless it's a sign and trade

Not a lot of guys out there worth a first round pick. Frankly, I'd be shopping for a defenseman before anything else if it were up to me. Two guys that could be signed long-term are Hanifin and Chychrun, that could certainly be worth a 1st but will take a lot of other assets too.

Frankly, with guys on LTIR and not accruing cap space...as things stand now they will only have the ability to add $1.487M in full-year cap hit at the deadline. Not getting anyone of value for under that amount no matter what you trade. They'd have to do some pretty wild stuff to make the room to do anything noteworthy. Like trade Pageau or Palmieri

Really not looking good for an impact type trade at this point. Team really needs to keep this years #1. Probably best to let Roy run with the current team.
