Switzerland, apparently. Always liked him as a prospect but I guess he just never had it. He went in the Leddy trade if I'm remembering correctly

If you believe this site, then no, he wasn't part of that trade. Is it possible he wasn't part of any trade? I.e., there came a point where the Isles just didn't extend his contract?

No he was part of the package that went to Chicago when the Islanders acquired Leddy

https://www.capfriendly.c...trades/players/nick-leddy

TJ Brennan, Ville Pokka, Kent Simpson, Anders Nilsson went for Leddy

Side note: what a dog poop return for a guy who was a pretty solid middle pairing defenseman for a long time

Looking through the Islanders trade history...if Iskhakov turns out to be a decent NHL'er and Bolduc keeps improving and sticks around then this would be one hell of a bad trade for Calgary looking back:

OK, I thought you meant he went WITH Leddy when the Isles traded Leddy. That makes sense. And yeah, Leddy was a good d-man for the Isles for many years. The fact that the Isles unloaded a bunch of scraps to get him makes Snow look like like a shrewd trader.

You're making a good case to bring back Snow to handle Islander trades.

Hard to knock Chicago when they went ahead and won their 3rd Cup in 5 years in 2015 though

But yeah, Snow absolutely made some good trades. One place you can't criticize him for sure.

As I recall, that Chicago team was loaded on Defense. I think Leddy was a 6/7 and they were struggling to find playing time for him.

Yeah Keith/Seabrook/Hjarlmarsson/Rosival/Oduya is pretty strong core

Two great trades. We gave away a few 2nd/3rd round picks and a pile of AHL scrap players for an entire second pairing

And yet Garth was shy in terms of making trades.

I see we’re hammering Ville Pokka on here but I’m not sure if anyone remembers he was a pretty decent prospect who showed some promise at the time. It didn’t work out for him of course but a lot of us, myself included, were not happy about losing him. We of course absolutely won that trade but he wasn’t some scrap at the time.

Yeah I mean looking back now it was a pile of crap. I said a day or two ago that I used to be pretty high on Pokka, he just never panned out anywhere.

The Center market is relatively thin. Hence, the @NHLFlyers
are taking calls on Scott Laughton. They’re not eager to trade him but Danny Briere is gauging the interest.

If there's a strong demand for centers and low supply, the Isles should definitely think about that as part of their plans for the deadline, regardless of if they want to be buyers or sellers (swapping a center for help on the wing if they're buyers, maybe). And if they don't come out of the break on absolute fire and decide to sell, this market reality could be a blessing for a team that doesn't have a whole lot of tradable assets but does have center depth.

Nelson is about the only center that they have that can be moved and is worth anything significant. If they're going to move Nelson then that would likely signal that they were planning on rebuilding/retooling, which I think we all know they aren't. Nelson would be a candidate to be moved next year if they're out of the race come deadline day.

Pageau has two years left on his deal, which isn't super expensive but isn't cheap either. Barzal is, and shouldn't, go anywhere. Nobody is taking Cizikas' contract even if they wanted to trade him, which I'm sure they don't.

I think the Islanders should be open to moving Nelson. Nelson will be 33 in October. Team is going to have to do some sort of retool/rebuild.

I think Pageau would get interest, particularly if a team was making a player-for-player trade and could move out a comparable winger's salary. He has a good playoff reputation and can really fill a need for a team that thinks it has a chance but needs more at center. Normally, I'd agree with you and say, yeah, the salary's a deal killer, but if options are really thin, you can overpay in assets for some sloth that will eat up minutes but not add much, or make a hockey trade for a player like Pageau who may actually move the needle.

He'd generate interest, I just don't think the return would be particularly amazing for a 3rd line center who's owed $7.5M plus whatever is left this year, even with a thin market. If he were a pending UFA I'd probably agree that he could fetch us a nice return.

I don't think creating a hole at center solves a problem for us without creating another. Who plays center if Pageau is gone? Can't move Barzal off the top line and, short of that, I don't know who can fill that role unless you're thinking of bumping Casey up when he's back and giving MacLean the full-time 4C job

Haha I thought Pelech was terrible and would amount to nothing and loved Pokka when he started playing. 😂

To be fair Pelech was kind of terrible for a when he first came up.
