Every year just before trade deadline we speculate, and every year Lou does one of two things. He either adds or stays the course. I’d be shocked if he did anything differently.

Maybe they turn it around but we’re 2-6-2 in our last ten. The team has a -23 goal differential(which Lou himself says he uses as a barometer). We’re about two weeks away from what should be an easy decision. Problem is there’s pretty much nobody we have even a semi chance of getting a return on in a trade. We’re top heavy with long term immovable contracts or FA’s that are worth little to nothing. If we’re doing a retool moving Nelson is a tough one.

I fully expect Lou to double down on what he’s done which is the absolute wrong decision unless this team performs a complete turn around. Even if they turned it around this season the writing is on the wall. I’m not sure how anyone could dispute that. If we truly have to wait 10-20 games for the team to jell with Roy like most here have said guess what? That’s too late on this season. Start preparing for next if that’s the case.

Hard to see a big enough turnaround with the issues and defense and forward. Al and Scotty would have a hard time taking this team on a big run.

The worst thing is if we move more valuable picks at this point. Islanders do not have to tank, but try to get a good look at as many young players as possible.

Pierre Engvall has ONE POINT in his last 19 games!!!!
This for a guy who consistently plays with Nelson. That's flat out insane.

A turn around is possible. We’ve seen countless teams do it but I’m kind of like what’s the point? I’d rather not watch what we did last season against the canes. Then we’re doing the same thing next season. If he trades our first my (frank)ing head will explode.

I think a lot of what the Isles should plan to do hedges on how long Casey, Pelech and Pulock will remain out. Pelech missed a lot of time with his last concussion and I would imagine this go-round will likely be similar. We've had no word on Pulock. It's going to be awfully hard to improve our defensive play when consistently asking Aho, Mayfield and Bolduc to log significant time on the ice.

He’s playing bad even for him but I’m not sure what a lot of fans(not saying you) and Lou were expecting from him. To suddenly transform into a legit top 6 fwd? He’s about as one dimensional as they come.

Yep! It's possible just not very likely. Defense was struggling with Pelech. Lou better not move the #1 pick this year.

Definitely never understood why anyone felt it was important to bring him back. As I said before, the only thing he can do is fetch pucks. Otherwise he has no talent whatsoever. We all wanted to move on from Bailey as a top six forward, but that naturally was dependent upon them actually upgrading the spot. Engvall is no upgrade.

Cannot see it happening and the offense is struggling now as well.

It made no sense and more examples of the Islander forcing playing into top 6 roles when they are not capable of it.

It's like he got his 7-year deal and he checked out.

It depends on what a team needs for the playoffs. He is not going to get you a 1st, 2nd or even a 3rd, but he may get you something. Never say never. They said Gretzky would never be traded.

I'd be shocked if they would even get a 6th rounder. If some team is willing to give the Isles anything I'm all for it.

Engvall had 9 points in 18 games with the Islanders last season.
The Nelly line at the end of last year was the reason the Isles sniffed the PO.
He played well on that line. Had a couple points in the POs. As many as Barzal.
Lou definitely took a chance but a top 6 at 3 million is a ridiculously low price.
On this deal so far the internet GM’s win.
Well done!

There could be a playoff team that would give up a late round pick for clutter. It’s Palmieri I can’t see happening being he has another year on his contract and he isn’t that great with a higher salary.

Norris Trophy race:

Hughes: 26th in EV strength mins, 16 hits, 35 blocked shots, 59pts #Canucks

Makar: 80th in EV strength minutes, 21 hits, 81 blocked shots, 57pts #GoAvsGo

Dobson: 1st in EV strength minutes, 36 hits, 110 blocked shots, 51pts. #Isles

Dobson not far behind in production on a much less talented team and is still a +20 on a team that has a -22 goal differential.

I don't care very much about the All-Star game but it's terrible that he didn't get a spot. I know it's going to be Leafs-heavy since it's in Toronto but he's so much better than Morgan Rielly and is definitely having a better season than Dahlin.

Yeah, Dobson has become one of the best d-men in the NHL, and it's a shame he didn't get recognized as such...................as unimportant as the All-Star game is.

I mean, do I think it's silly he's not playing in the All-Star game? Yes. But I'm certainly not going to lose sleep over it and/or angrily run to Twitter to dump on the league. Frankly I'd rather he gets some rest after the monster minutes he logs

Idc about the all star game he's a top 3 Norris candidate and has an argument to win. Idt he will this year but he plays the 2nd most minutes behind only doughty

Meanwhile Bode Wilde, who was drafted the same year, is playing in the EIHL

The Cardiff Devils.

No wonder Lou is so willing to part with his 2nd round draft picks.

Switzerland, apparently. Always liked him as a prospect but I guess he just never had it. He went in the Leddy trade if I'm remembering correctly
