Honestly, I get that Nelson was ahead of everyone, but he's on a bad angle and all he did was give Florida possession there. Reilly with a bad play on defense, and the losers continue to lose

It's the Isles' specialty this season. They lead the NHL.

What have we learned to this point. That this Islander team is good enough to deliver on Hope, but not good enough to deliver on expectation.

There are too many flaws in this lineup to consider it a Stanley Cup contender even if the lord himself were the coach. Yet they are not bad enough to tear it all down.

If I wear sitting next to Lou in his recliner during his 4 pm pudding cup. I would say making the playoffs is not the main concern right now. You would be lucky to get out of the first round. Sell what you can and re-stock the farm. Look to free agency to fill your holes. Accept what is in front of you and prepare for next season.

It pains me to say it, but we need to face reality here.

Nelson, Brock FA next year. Team will not be able to sign him. He has been a good soldier. He could bring in some picks to re-stock the farm.

Palmieri, Kyle FA next year. He could bring in a pick to re-stock the farm.

Clutterbuck, Cal, FA He could bring in a pick to re-stock the farm.

Aho, Sebastian. Just time to move on.

Engvall, Pierre. I would rather see a kid from the farm get a chance. he is a turnover machine. The only thing softer than him is my pillow.

You don’t have to tear it all down but they have to swallow it for a couple of years imo. Pick in the first round hope we hit two consecutive years on blue chips. Get younger/faster. Problem is Lou handcuffed us to a couple gonzo contracts. We can’t continue to double down on stupidity because of it. That will only promote mediocrity at best for the future. Hoping to be the Minnesota wild for the last decade isn’t exactly a recipe for success.

Also, whatever we’re lucky enough to get back for clutterbuck and or Palmieri isn’t doing a helluva lot for this team more then likely…
We’d probably have to add a pick to lose Palmieri on his last year.

This is beyond a coaching issue. It would be tough, but moving Nelson would be the right move. Brock will be 33 in October. I do think they have to sell what they can this year.

Find out about Wally and Bolduc and play them as much as possible the rest of the way and call up Ishakov. No coach is going to be able to completely fix this year's team. Just making the playoffs will be very difficult.

Fired coach and Parise not wanting to come back should tell these guys something. Lou has to see it too. The only thing left to do is trade one or more of these guys. Maybe that will wake them up?

Team is not close to being a legit threat. Defense is a mess and forward group has issues as well. Team has responded to Roy, but they are just not good enough.

I agree. This is more of an Alteration then a Complete Tear Down. Yes you could be right with Palms. Need to see who is in the race and what they want.

I agree, if not than you need to move on.

No, but what we need to see from Roy is improvement as a team overall. Reduce the shots, be stronger on the PK, not sacrifice the offense but also do not hang your goalie out to dry.

There are core players that appears to be buying into Roy's approach. Move on from the ones that do not.

They aren’t going to want him unless we swallow salary and even then I think it’s a stretch.

It depends on what a team needs for the playoffs. He is not going to get you a 1st, 2nd or even a 3rd, but he may get you something. Never say never. They said Gretzky would never be traded.

I think Roy is the answer, but this may give Lou more time and I think Lou needs to go or at least give up the GM duties.

You could be right, but these are the players that the Islanders must consider moving on from to strengthen future. Some of these will be near impossible to move but management needs to try.

Maybe they turn it around but we’re 2-6-2 in our last ten. The team has a -23 goal differential(which Lou himself says he uses as a barometer). We’re about two weeks away from what should be an easy decision. Problem is there’s pretty much nobody we have even a semi chance of getting a return on in a trade. We’re top heavy with long term immovable contracts or FA’s that are worth little to nothing. If we’re doing a retool moving Nelson is a tough one.

I fully expect Lou to double down on what he’s done which is the absolute wrong decision unless this team performs a complete turn around. Even if they turned it around this season the writing is on the wall. I’m not sure how anyone could dispute that. If we truly have to wait 10-20 games for the team to jell with Roy like most here have said guess what? That’s too late on this season. Start preparing for next if that’s the case.

They can try all they want. Maybe they dump clutterbuck or even Martin for next to nothing for a team looking to add “toughness”(even though we know that doesn’t exist with Martin any longer). Palmieri I can’t imagine another team wanting him especially with another year left on his contract. Love to be wrong about that. GM’s do stupid things. We know that but I’m certainly not holding my breath on that one. This conversation is pretty much a waste of time though because there’s little to no chance Lou does any of this. He’ll run it back and more then likely fill up whatever space we have next season with more useless crap for long term.

He did that at the end of his tenure with the devils, leafs, and here with us. I’m not expecting him to stop now.
