Defense is a challenge even with better coaching. I’ll take Hutton over Aho. I’m not sure if Salo is worth another look? I like Bolduc over Aho as well.

Last I checked Salo is having a pretty good season with Bridgeport.

Dobson and Reilly turnovers both lead to goals. Vegas can finish. Isles need to capitalize more when they have chances. Overall played a solid game though.

That snipe by MacLean off the crossbar, in traffic and getting that off was impressive. I like his game. Wonder if he can play wing too??

Defense is the biggest concern, but offense is still a challenge outside of Barzal, Bo, Nelson.

Agree, although they did have two or three posts and the chance by Fasching that landed on the back of Hills leg was close too.

Islanders really deserved at least a point. Islanders do not get enough dirty goals.

Most noticeable change to me was the breakout. The headman passes from the D were crispy.

They were much more aggressive in the d zone as well, took away time and space

I thought they played a for the most part good game minus Barzal, Pelech, and to a lesser degree Horvat.

Maclean has looked good and I would consider keeping him the lineup when Casey is back in place of fasching. 15 and 17 actually looked like their old selves for a night but can they keep it up? Any idea on how long Casey is out?

Top lines opening shift was awesome and then it went to poop, 13 and 14 couldn't get a handle on the puck

Unfortunately I don't think they can. That physical style has caught up to them. Clutter was even talking about possibly retiring a couple of years ago. I'm sure they will have a couple of stretches (especially under a new coach), but I don't think it's sustainable.

Islanders need other forwards to step up when Barzal and Bo are not their best.

4th line next year could look something like MacLean-Cizikas-Fasching and I don't hate that.

MacLean looks like a real good 4th liner to me so far, I've liked his game

I agree. They will have good moments, but it will get tougher as the season goes on.

This should be the 4th line next year. 2nd line needs changes as well.

maclean seems legit. small sample size but his game seems on point for a solid bottom 6, ideal 4th liner. play a simple solid game and don't (frank) up, i think he's got that

I
d prefer Bortuzzo over all of them. Is there a time table for him?

I agree. I’ve not seen anything with Bortuzzo. Islander dmen really manage to get themselves injured.

I think you will see more structure in their D-Zone play. I am glad to see that they are holding the diamond and hybrid on PK.

If they can keep up their transition came while reducing high danger shots in the D zone. I think you will see Sorokin's numbers gradually get better.

I am going to give them at least 10 games. I think by then you will see a much need improvement without sacrificing their offensive push.

On I would like to see...

Pelech and Pullock
Dober and Rommie
Bortuzzo and Reilly (if you're concerned about their D you can mix them with Pelech and Pullock)
Bolduc

I think you need at least 20 games to evaluate a coach taking over mid-season. The players tend to get a boost wanting to impress the new coach, and it takes them time to adapt to a different style and voice.

You may be right, but I think Roy is what the doctor has ordered for this team. Yes, the lost against Vegas but it was a spirited lose. I am being optimistic here. I think 10 is a good number. it is 1/3 of what is left in the season.

Yeah not definitive yet but it’s being reported from multiple outlets. Guy wants to win the cup and probably feels the Avs offer the best shot. I’m disappointed would love to have him back but also can’t blame him.
