Braden is a great player for what he brings. And would be a force in the playoffs... i think?
The reality is after this season he is only under contract for 2 more years before final year of contract, they have to make a decision before final year. Theres no way he is staying, why would he? Even if the next 2 seasons they make the pkayoffs.. He will go south. So. Now the question is when to dispose of this asset to gain maximum return.

Last place in the east,29th in league. 6-7 years into the rebuild the process of basic pro fundamentals is just starting to be implemented.huh? Its not the result its the process .. maybe in 5 years they can make the playoffs

Nice display to a sold out crowd . Who in their right mind is watching these games. And saying to themselves i have to go and spend alot of money to be part of this.

It's too bad this team, rebuild, has failed. Theres no other way to look at it.

I don't share your negativity here. Sure yesterday's game was a poop show and the team is way behind in the standings. There is enough talent in this group that they can be much better with some time under competent coaching. There are still some issues with roster construction that should be fixable in the off-season. Goaltending is the one area that could prove challenging to fix.

Yeah the goaltending gamble has not paid off in the slightest, we might be looking at a Campbell-esque scenario with Korpisalo if he doesn't find his groove. Stat lines suggest this team should be in a *much* better spot, but when both of your netminders are in the bottom 15 of a pool of 71 goalies who have played 5 or more games, your record shows it. A team in a very similar position is Buffalo, whose 3 minders are in the bottom 17 of that list, and look where they've landed after a preseason playoff prognosis - down in the dumps alongside the Sens.

For other high octane teams playing with shaky nets - look how the Leafs are playing behind Samsonov, or how the Oil played behind Campbell. A shaky net trickles upwards.

This team is good, but it's not good enough to consistently outscore the 3.5 average goals the goalies are letting in a game. At the bare minimum they should be giving Sogard a run at this point. He hasn't exactly been a revelation in Belleville, but if he can replicate his sub 3 GAA/ .910+ SV% numbers in the show, there could be some hope.

I haven't posted on here for a long time but I thought it would be worth it this time.

This Formenton drama has gone on for way too long. The girl has never pressed charges and has always refused to cooperate. It is her step dad who has been pushing this all along. Hockey Canada tried to buy him off but he's not satisfied and wants more money.

This has cost Formenton millions of dollars. If he can make a deal with that girl and find a good lawyer they should sue the pants off of the woke, PC correct scum bags at Hockey Canada and the London Police for the millions Formentin has lost plus the psychological damage to the girl which in this crazy world is worth way more.

I fully expect mister eye ore and company to attack me because that's what they do but if any one or more of you recognize the absurdity of this crazy virtue signalling world maybe you could spread the word. Take Hockey Canada and the London Police to the cleaners and put a stop to this nonsense.

I believe that if you greatly improve overall team defense then the goalie numbers will also improve - to a little below league average would be my guess. That doesn't change the fact that we don't have a true #1 who can take us far in the playoffs.
My preference would be to leave Sogaard in the minors for development for the rest of this year.

I'd hazard to say with their current numbers we have two difficult-to-move contracts in net on our hands. Korpisalo just didn't have the historical pedigree for that deal - we really should have gone hard for Ullmark, whose numbers the past seven seasons really don't lie. Hindsight is 20/20, and Korpi may yet prove us wrong, but he best get started soon.

Netminders have recently left Ottawa and put up superior numbers elsewhere - Talbot, Gus - limited sample, but speaks to how stronger systems and better players help insulate the net and boost netminders' performance. Doesn't change the fact that our goalies need to be saving more pucks overall; their current stat lines would look bad in the 1980s. I say give Sogard a couple shots if we keep seeing 880 hockey in January. If he biffs it, no big deal, still getting a good draft pick. Back to the drawing table.

Injuries suck big time. All season, we haven't been completely healthy for any extended period with Zub, Norris, Batherson, Grieg, Chabot, Pinto, and now Joseph out. If anything Martin teaches - show these guys how to train, equip and play in a way that you don't constantly hurt yourself. Injury has come to this team a touch too generously in these last years.

It is annoying Chabot is out, hopefully he comes back, smashes our expectations, pushes his way out of trade speculation and we ride a unicorn run to the playoffs. Dare to dream. Go Sens.

OTT has hired their GM, it is Staios.

The club has also appointed Dave Poulin to the role of senior vice-president of hockey operations and Ryan Bowness as associate general manager.

Poulin is an outstanding hockey thinker. Far and away the most impressive of the TSN analysts. I wonder how different things would look if some of these front office moves had happened early last summer.

Poulin has been on the nose with his assessments of Senators play to date. I wonder if his coverage played a role in him getting engaged with this group. Super add.

Was really hoping Staios would find a GM in the offseason but since he hasn't then now it's on him for JM operating on an interim basis right now. Plenty of available coaches to pick up right now.

Really didn't think Staios and Andlauer would want to put Staios in this position where in a couple of years Andlauer could be forced to fire him. I thought their partnership was more of wanting to analyze things from the background together and let other people be the fall guys.

Weird he took the job. He was very happy at tsn, made good money, and got his summers off after trade deadline day. Good hire though.

Now if they could just do something about the goaltending.

Love the Leafs waiving Sammy....daring other teams to take him and devaluing goaltender values in the process.

I actually kind of agree. I am a firm believer in "innocent until proven guilty". Formentin 's life has been put in limbo ... why? Nobody has ever charged him or openly accused him. Its all just speculation and hearsay. The young lady does not seem to want to press charges and yet both her and Formentin are being dragged along. Either charge him, or move on. This is ridiculous. I would hope that we still live in a society where you can't punish someone because a group of people think he should be punished. Rule of law protects us from vigilanty justice.

I've wondered lately, just how effective is our offseason training regime. We seem to have far too many injuries for just chance. Maybe this team should have a hard look at its training staff and practices.

I listened to the live announcement of Staios, Poulin, and Bowness.

I am still not convinced that Staios taking the GM job is permanent. Staios talked about the GM search ..... and each time he kept coming back to Bowness as an ideal type of candidate. I think the ultimate goal, is to promote Ryan Bowness to Associate GM and to work at giving him experience and eventually moving Bowness to the GM position in a few years. Meanwhile , Staios still plots the main course and makes the necessary changes ... as he says, the buck stops with him on all decisions. So any potential new GM coming in would have to realize that they did not have ultimate control. But Bowness will be protected now from other teams trying to poach him into a higher role. And Ottawa will elevate him once he gets more experience. I think that while they believe Bowness will be their guy, he may not quite be ready for that promotion to GM, ... yet.

Now, another thing that makes me go hmmmmmm. I think/believe that Ottawa has room for one more assistant GM. So who will they hire? Someone to tinker around the edges for salary cap issues (like Prudhomme in Toronto)? So, what if Ottawa wants to bring in Formentin .... media would love to be all over this negatively. So how does Ottawa counter this? Our next assistant GM ..... Cheryl Pounder (off the TSN panel as well and has connections to the management group). She has a great hockey mind as well. It would be huge ...... and did I mention that this is not just a smoke and mirrors show but Pounder is an excellent hockey mind.

I'm curious to know if the ice time totals for the Sens are correct (on TSN Boxscore stats). If they are correct, there is some really weird time on ice amounts (Tkachuk was around 14 minutes, as was Norris). Most of the forwards posted low ice times. All d-men were also lower then 20 minutes as well.
