Can't imagine many Sens fans would disagree with your call.

Who would you trade Brady for in a fair one for one deal where as a Sen's fan you would be satisfied.....Barkov?

- spatso

Quite frankly, I don't think there is really a fair trade out there for Brady. You can't compare him to a McDavid, Matthews or a MacKinnon type player. They are frankly out of his league at this point. Others like Rantenan, Draisaitl ... different set of skillsets. Barkov, et al .... are not play drivers.
Brady brings a fairly unique set of skills to the table. He will fight, hit, score, assist .... but he is kind of like the Larry Bird of hockey. He looks lumbering, awkward, is not the prettiest hockey player in terms skill. But he leads and gets the job done. Had we had Brady back in 2007, we might very well have won the Cup. He is the type of gritty player/power forward we have been looking for since we entered the league. I don't think there is another player who brings the you and these elements to our team. Trading him might almost be akin to ripping the soul/the fight out of this team even if we received a forward who had better skill and scoring and better skating.

If we look at a similar type of trade in Ottawa's past ....we traded Washington and got Bondra (back in 2004) for Brooks Laich and a 2nd round pick. Turns out Laich developed into the kind of player Ottawa had been looking for all along ... a gritty 2 way player (had we been more patient, we could have used him in the 2007 Cup run). So, I come back to Brady. What would we ever receive in return to make it a fair swap. Someone like Barkov does not give s the play driver we need ... the grit, the determination, getting to the dirty areas on the ice. Like Huberdeau to Calgary. No thanks, walk away.

agree 100%

To answer your question - and it was a great one. These are the players I would trade Brady Tkachuk for (in a realistic 1 for 1 scenrio) not including his brother who is only one like him lol:

Forwards

(1) Connor Bedard (not happening)
(2) Elias Pettersson (will be a 11-12M player soon though)
(3) Jack Hughes (too good of cap hit, won't happen)
(4) Sebastian Aho
(5) Clayton Keller (close to market value but I wouldn't do it)
(6) Kyle Connor (much closer to value, great player!)
(7) Roope Hintz (interesting option, amazingly underrated)
(8) Quinton Byfield (not close but huge ceiling)
(9) Mason McTavish

D-men

(1) Miro Heiskanen
(2) Moritz Seider
(3) Owen Power (might be too high price)
(4) Jaccob Slavin (amazing player, but too old)
(5) Simon Nemec
(6) Luke Hughes
(7) Evan Bouchard
(8) David Jiricek or Brandt Clarke (not good enough 1 for 1 though)

Fair trade would be similar to what Matthew Tkachuk got: another top 3-4 pick with a D-man and a 1st or 2nd. So Quinton Byfield, Matt Roy, and a 2nd round pick would be a fair market value deal OR someone like Matt Beniers, Adam Fantilli or Leo Carlsson straight 1 for 1. Brady Tkachuk is a very very rare player. To get a guy like him - could push your team over the top in the playoffs.

Brady has far more value that Leo, Matt or Fantilli, established players always have mor value than prospects/rookies

Fair value for Brady is significantly higher than what Matthew got, considering he is cost controlled at 8.25 for four years after this.

Considering Brady trades is pointless conversation as to do so for almost anyone who isn't a top 3 scorer in the league doesn't make sense given the intangibles he brings.

The true problems with this team are 1 forward, 2 defensemen and the goaltending in general.

Norris isn't scoring the way he should be and his contract is a deadweight at his current pace. Not sure how you fix this guy as a problem.

Chabot is constantly injured right now and when not injured is a shell of his rookie self. Finding any way to set this guy loose would protecting him at the same time would be ideal.

Brannstrom simply does not belong here. You trade out that 2 mil in puck movement for 2 mil of def minded brute it would be well worth for the team dynamic.

The goaltending just sucks but hell the same tandem could knock it out of the park next year as you never really know with goalies. Maybe fixing the top three players as well as the coahing adjustment would settle everything out.

I'm sorry but if we are being objective - Mathew Tkachuk just posted back to back 40+ goals, 100 point seasons (combined +89).

Only 2 players in Sens history have EVER score 100 points (alfredsson and heatley). Only 27 players in the HISTORY of the NHL have scored 100 points more than 2x in their career.

Add to that that Matthew Tkachuk brings that edge, clutches....I think Brady is not there yet. He can and likely will hit either 40 goals or 100 points but he's not at that level yet

MT pending UFA vs BT 4 years locked cost control, not to mention Calgary was painted into a corner making that deal. Shares the same name, draft pedigree, and is currently putting up an identical PPG. It's a fantasy assertion because he ain't getting traded, but Brady's contract is super valuable.

Nice win but we should avoid getting too excited. NHL games get a lot tougher after Christmas as teams start to play a far tougher style of game.

Never thought we would see it but this Leaf team may be softest version ever. Nice skating and passing. But other than for a few skaters (Bertuzzi) wickedly soft cream puffs.

Would love to see Sens play Leafs in 7 game series. Won't be this year but soon enough.

Very unexpected after the way they played in the first period... give them credit for settling things down, and trying to chip away at the game. They've really got to get it through their heads that they can't just keep being impatient, and cheating to play a high-tempo style. They're clearly a better team when they take the time to better support the puck getting out of the zone, and wait for their scoring opportunities to present themselves.

Kind of starting to see the old school Jacques Martin way of playing the game. It will take time for this team to change their bad habits. But let's evaluate the players and decide what changes need to be done. Regardless, we are going to get a top 15 pick in the draft. I'd keep all my picks this year and add a few picks when we trade the likes of Tarasenko, Kubalik, Brannstrom, and Forsberg.
I think that Hamonic is finished one way or another.
Players like Jarventie, Sokolov, Thomson, Reinhardt and Smejkal could be used as trade sweeteners.

Our third line is looking like Pinto, Greig, and I think Crookshank is playing his way to a 3rd or 4rth line role. Kastelik may be on shaky ground as he appears to be in a bit of the doghouse lately with 4 minutes of icetime vs Pittsburgh and 9 minutes vs Toronto. So I am not sure what the future holds for him (whereas Kelly had 19 minutes vs Pittsburgh and 14 minutes vs Toronto).

I think that in Jan/Feb the Sens bring up Klevin on defence and Sogaard in goal to see what they can do.

We will see what happens with Joseph, but I think they like him in the top 6 where his speed can be used (and on the penalty kill). He plays better when he plays with skilled players.

Tkachuk/Stutzle/Joseph
Giroux/Norris/Batherson
Greig/Pinto/????
Kelly/Crookshank/???? Kastelik/????

Sanderson/Klevin
Chabot/Zub
Chychrun/JBD
Going with 3 balanced defence pairings.

Korpisalo/Sogaard

I think the reality of the situation is there is room for 4 more additions to the team. 1 in the top 6 (trade out Joseph), 1 3rd line, 1 on the 4rth line. Plus 1 d-man in place of JBD (who would be traded or kept as 7th d-man).

Final thought ..... after NHL screwing us out of 1rst round pick for the earlier fiasco ..... what is to happen with Formenton? No ruling of what he did, if he did anything ???? So why not have Ottawa give the NHL top brass the finger and sign Formenton now? Why are we punishing him and ourselves if the NHL does not have the brass to come out and publish the whole truth. Force their hand. Either you tell everyone what happened (release the documents) or we sign him. Put Formenton on the 3rd line with Greig and Pinto .... a bit of nasty and speed and skill on that line.

as long as Joseph has his speed it would monumentally dumb to trade him, before his injury he has 19 points in 25 games and is a +12, he is playing up to his contract.

almost if not everyone here was whining that OTT traded Paul for him and when he plays like or better than Paul everyone wants to trade him.....he has 2 year lfts on his deal after this season, it does not hurt the team to see if he can continue playing this well after he comes back from injury and next year.

I think the fact that there has been silence from the Sens, Formenton, his agent, means that he did something very bad and no one wants to make too much of a stink of it because of that. In the Sens case, they don't want to be showing support for him until the London Police come out with something, lest they seem to be shown supporting a sexual predator, etc. All conjecture at this point, but his career has definitely been derailed like that Vancouver player, and he will struggle to make it back onto an NHL roster.

Basically London Police and Canada Hockey are in a staring match to see who will release their finidings first. My thinking is Canada Hockey wants London Police to come out and say no one is cooperating, therefore no case or something happened but no burdern of proof, etc. And Longdon Police wants Canada Hockey to submit their report first, which will also say the same thing. Either way, nothing gets done swfitly.

Back to hockey....for next year, I think 8 Sens forwards are set and should stay: Grieg, Pinto, Stu, Brady, Giroux, Joseph, Batherson, Norris. You could argue a 9th spot will be taken up by one of Kelly/Crookshank/Kastelik.

So, three spots open. The entire 4th line IMO needs an overall. Sens have the cap space to do so. Need to sign two FA, and have two BSens step up.

As for the defense...vastly improved with the removal of Branny and Hamonic. One of Klevin and JBD step up, if not both.

Then you have to assume the entire team plays better under a better coach with more structure and a defensive system. Then we see if the goalies are any good. Cuz right now, they are not.

Lucky for Chabot that he is injured. Bunch of fans were getting ready blame him for everything that was going wrong. I think it is clearly obvious that DJ failed to impose a disciplined defensive structure and the team looked disorganized in their own end.

Also DJ kept matching up the wrong lines.

Last place in the east,29th in league. 6-7 years into the rebuild the process of basic pro fundamentals is just starting to be implemented.huh? Its not the result its the process .. maybe in 5 years they can make the playoffs

Nice display to a sold out crowd . Who in their right mind is watching these games. And saying to themselves i have to go and spend alot of money to be part of this.

It's too bad this team, rebuild, has failed. Theres no other way to look at it.
