Planning on picking up a pan or two in the not-so-distant future. I don't care about a whole set.

For an inexpensive non-stick All Clad pan, the HA1 Anodized pans are amazing for cooking omelets, pancakes and those kinds of things as well as stir-frys and anything with a sauce because its super easy to clean. I used them while travelling around the country for work and I will continue to purchase them in the future.

If you want a stainless steel pan, my suggestion is to get a saute pan because it will be a pan you can use for absolutely anything. Its deep so if you want to do a shallow fry, you can... if youre cooking for the family and got a lot of ingredients, youre good, its deep and can accomodate.

Solid point, re: stainless saute pans.

I have a couple of phenomenal non-stick pans we got at my wife's wedding shower that I use if I need one so I'm not even thinking about those.

Whenever it comes time to actually start shopping stainless, I'll probably research it to death. I don't need real high-end stuff, I'm happy with middle of the road. MadeIn seems to be pretty solid at a little bit better of a price than some of the All-Clad stuff.

Yeah wasn't criticism, I just looked at that picture and went "hoooly poop"

As pointed out above, you can strip and re-season your cast iron. White vinegar bath and some steel wool would probably get that rust off relatively easy, depending on how bad it is. Assuming you're on Instagram here, Cast Iron Chris is an awesome follow.

Recently ordered Walrus Oil. Hope to give it a shot in a week or two.

Make sure you read and read and read the reviews. Dont skimp, you want them to last, you get what you pay for. That doesnt mean you need to pay the absolute top dollar, but dont let $20-30 deter you from buying a pan that you really like.

Youre making an investment.

Interesting. I actually just ordered that compound he sells on his website literally this morning. Got one as a stocking stuffer for my dad and grabbed one for myself too.

Yeah whenever I'm buying something expensive that I really want, I research like an insane person. I like to read the reviews across multiple websites and random forums. Specifically the one star ones, because if I see a trend of the same complaint across multiple websites then I know it's probably legit. And I don't trust the five star reviews as much because I'm convinced half of them are either the company drumming up positivity or people incentivized to leave good reviews.

$20-$30 won't scare me off, but if we're talking $100+ for an identically-sized pan then, pending my research, I'm probably not forking over the extra money unless the cheaper one is significantly worse and there are no other options.

Doesn't affect how I'm taking your opinion, but do you cook for a living? I only ask because you said you traveled with cookware before.

Seems like most of the saute pans Im suggesting are in the $100-150 range.

Are we still talking specifically All-Clad? Cheapest I can see on the All-Clad website is the D3 stainless 3qt for $150, going all the way up to $400 for copper core.

But yeah, I have no doubt there are plenty of other good brands available for that $100-$150 price range.

Honestly, i hate the upkeep on those pans. I'd rather just fire up my nonstick all clads and throw in the dishwasher or handwash with soap without worrying about (frank)ing something up. I'm just not at a point in my life where pan maintenance is something i can wrap my head around when i have a toddler sticking play dough inside of things in the other room.
- picklerick

I was worried about it too but it has been fantastic. I am not super careful with it and the coating survives pretty well. It is incredibly non-stick, even eggs slide around the pan. It does amazing steaks and burgers.
