Ronald Blum and Beth Harris of The Associated Press report Shohei Ohtani can opt out of his 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers if controlling owner Mark Walter or president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman lose their roles with the team.
The official terms of Ohtani’s finalized contract were not released publicly, so this report comes for a source speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. The Athletic first reported earlier Wednesday that Ohtani’s deal contained a provision allowing him to opt out the following season if the Dodgers made specific personnel changes. It’s a fascinating wrinkle in one of the most complex contracts in professional sports history. The 29-year-old two-way superstar, who is deferring $68 million per-season of his $70 million salary, will be officially introduced on Thursday at a press conference in Los Angeles.

Granato had two years left on his existing contract and is now locked up through the 2025-26 season. He will make just under $2 million in each season of the extension, not including bonuses, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.
Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams praised the coach for developing a young core of players, including center Tage Thompson, who scored a career-best 38 goals last season.
"Don's mentality of 'earning it' resonates throughout the team. It is more than just a mindset, it is a driving force for our players and staff," Adams said in a statement. "He is someone who the players have a tremendous amount of respect for, and he dedicates himself to bettering each individual on the team."
