Must of been sneaking in a lot of those Caramels. I don't know cause when I went through basic with everything going on it was impossible to keep weight on. Maybe LL's boys hadn't fallen yet so he was still growing but we were always doing something, burning energy.
- Buff36

Before going in, I was living on cigarettes, alcohol, and maybe one decent meal a day. I'm 6'1" and eating prolly 3,000+ calories a day for 8 weeks plus all that activity added the weight. I was built like a brick poophouse at the end, and three months after Basic I was leveled off about 175. Believe me, don't believe me, whatever. I only added this for context about a young athlete not having to be a twig his whole life just because he was thin at 17.

But since you and your dim younger washed up brother can't say anything without getting personal, this is for you:

I use Jacques Pepin's recipe for potato pancakes that are nothing like what Grandma used to make.

In a blender, combine 2 cups cubed 'taters, half a cup onion chunks, 2 eggs, half a teaspoon baking soda, 2 tablespoons flour, and salt and pepper...blend it for almost a minute to get it really smooth. To this, add about a quarter cup of chopped green onions (just the green parts). I usually double the batch cuz they go fast.

Heat up about a quarter-inch vegetable oil to almost smoking and add the potato mixture...one cup usually makes 3 pancakes. There should be enough oil to almost cover the pancakes, but not all the way...we're pan-frying, not deep-frying. Flatten each one out in the pan so you get uniform thickness, which is why I use a metal measuring cup. cook about 3-5 minutes, flip, and go another 3-4 till they're the color of a paper bag. This is crucial...put them on a wire rack to cool and drain a bit. Putting them on paper towels will make the bottoms soggy. I keep a plate in the oven at 170 degrees and keep them warm in there after they've drained completely.

Here's the best part: Serve them with a little sour cream and a big dollop of caviar, and enjoy as a side dish with a fish main course and a glass of ice-cold prosecco (or vodka if you like...caviar goes great with vodka). These are sooo good!

The thing with muscle is it becomes exponentially more difficult to add as you are adding it. If we are just talking adding weight it's a bit easier but I thought your original post referenced muscle so that's where my head went.

It's also tough because these guys are not able to hit the weights as frequently during the season - so it's not really an all year endeavor but more of an off season thing. Plus burning high calories during season in games / practice / travel.

If we're just talking body mass, I don't think 10-15 is unreasonable before next years opening night. That much muscle would potentially take more than 3-5 years though *assuming he put on 15 pounds of pure muscle already*

- JCSabs06

No, that makes sense. And I think I did say muscle, so my fault there, 15 in an offseason would be over the top expectation. Maybe 5-7?

I think, if he can get a little stronger, he really could be a 2nd line winger one day. He just distributes so well and his shot is really spectacular for his age/size. We knew going in he was a project pick, we just need to give his body the chance to catch up to his mind now IMO.

What Branch were you in, cause the Chow Hall's in the Army weren't exactly top notch back in the 80's and during basic training they were rolling units through that Chow Hall like Cars on a Line. My Wife still yells at Me cause I eat so fast. Glad it worked for you, still can't see how with how active those 2 months were.

My step-brother's gf at the time was at Fort Jackson in the late 90's. She was skinny, like looked like she had terminal cancer skinny. She gained 30 lbs during basic, she said they made her eat so much she felt sick every day. At least at that time they were paying very close attention to how much you ate, and if you were overweight you didn't get as much and if you were underweight they basically force fed you. If she could put on like 33% of her bodyweight during basic I could see LandlordTom doing 30lbs easy.

Oh I am sure it got better and they did the same thing when I went through. Had a weight chart they followed and they pushed the ones that needed to Eat or Lose Weight. I actually had to lose weight when I went through because I was at my Football weight, was in pretty good shape but not by there standards Weight Wise. Saw people gain weight but not like that, just burning so many calories every day. AIT seemed to be where most leveled up there weight cause it was more Schooling.

yeah, in Basic they watched the fatties like you pretty closely and only gave you 30 seconds each meal. Me and a few other skinnies were never rushed out of the chow hall, and I had never been exposed to 3 buffet meals every single day. By the time AIT was done I was at 190 and 3 months later I levelled off at 175.

Btw, have your balls dropped yet, or should I ask Washedup? He seems like the kind of "buddy" to you they warned us about in Basic...a guy who goes into town, gets 2 bjs, and brings you one back.

Atleast Washed doesn't hide anything about his feelings on the Sabres, pretty much the media says the same thing. Rather read some truth, than some fake Vibes and Pancake Recipes.

Doesn't hide anything??? No, he's been repeating the same things since April every single day. Just today he had to make sure we all know it's been 12 years ffs.

We ALL want the gm to trade for some upgrades, but my point all along is that the gm has laid his cards out very clearly about mainly building from within, yet so many come here with the same proposals we all agreedto six months ago....like saying it over and over will have some effect on Kevyyn.

He's playing the loooong game, like it or not. Yes, re signing 28 and 21 was dumb, yes Kevyn is bald, yes someone had bbq somewhere in Sabreland...I know this because it is repeated soooo often I want to chew my own foot off.

I know, free country and you can say what you want. Go ahead, but if I call you out for being a broken record, don't get personal and petty.

Vibes? The same guy who carps about vibes also has been saying he speaks for the "collective", which is about as hippie-dippie as can be. Spare me.

OK, but when a Organization keeps making the Same mistakes over and over it will be talked about and Constantly. We can talk about how good are system is or are Drafting has been, but what does it matter if you keep making the same mistakes. And the how many years thing will always be brought up until they break the string. It should not take a Franchise as long as it has the Sabres to atleast make the playoffs, especially in hockey.
