Well Mr. R. I will take Seth Jones at his word when he demonstrates on the ice that he has turned a leaf and is now playing a solid, smart game inside of both bluelines. Not spectacular, just a stable game with speed and a level of physicality that he is very capable of. Play a Drew Doughty type of game, for example. He will still play big minutes.
But my guess is Jones probably prefers to play a different game - higher risk, carry the puck on end to end rushes, notch a lot of points. Whatever it takes to justify the contract and salary. (But I could be wrong).
Prior to Chicago, Jones has played under 3 very experienced NHL coaches who know the game - Barry Trotz, Peter Laviolette and John Tortorella. A true #1 defenceman doesn't usually find himself being moved more than once, let alone twice. Wonder what those coaches thought of his game and how it fit their teams?
Jones isn't ever going to be a Viktor Hedman or Kale Makar or Quinn Hughes or Erik Karlsson. But if he can evolve into a player closer to Alex Pietrangelo or Brent Burns then the Hawks will get some value out of employing him. - RickJ
Jones is 11 years into his pro career. Expecting him to evolve into anything other than what he currently is is just pure folly. He will never be Burns or Pietrangelo or anyone else.

The odds have always been against Soderblom being an NHLer. Undrafted he had a good yr in the Svedish AHL and the next yr in the Svedish bigs (SHL) so the Hawks signed him.
But he has the size at 6ft 3in, did show well in those two yrs mentioned, 1 good yr in the AHL so he was a reasonable swing cuz you just never now, especially with goalies. - Mr Ricochet
Goalies in the new era can get up to the pros and never look towards the minors, but so many simply need the time, experience, and strength to not quit on themselves. From Soderblom first call-ups there is something that shows through, whereas the likes of Anton Forsberg, and Collin Delia exuded little confidence in me seeing there was an upside.
The kid was a champion goalie in Sweden when he was with Frölunda HC at 16 in the U18 Allsvenskan championship series.
He's only 24.(The same age as Justin Fields.) In my humble opinion he is good technical goalie who sees and handles the shots from the home plate well, and he only has upside at this point.
The fact that he is playing with a bad NHL team really doesn't make it easier. |

Ehhh i keep Murphy unless you can get a deal like you did for McCabe and Lafferty. He does serve a purpose, he's going to make Vlasic and KK better defenseman in a way. - BetweenTheDots
So you think you can get a first rounder for murphy? At best a fourth rounder. |

I'm rootin for Soderblom, Wiz. And you aren't the only one that thinks he's got some technical knowhow. Panger does too...... He was interviewed on The Athletic Hockey Show a couple days ago. For those who don't have a subscription you can get all of their podcasts on Spotify for free, and I guess all over. Here's a link to the Panger interview which I found very very good. Pang is on at 34:15.

If they retain salary and add another player sure, 1st and a 2nd. Like i said he serves a purpose for this team plays a lot of minutes but is a liability in his own end. No one likes to admit it but he provides an avenue to a top 3 pick. Win win, well not literally winning games but you know what i mean. |

Maybe a conditional 3rd if Chicago retains 50%.
I think Murphy has value, maybe not as much as last season but there still is value. Is there more value in trading him or keeping him? While Murphy is clearly struggling he'd need to be replaced, which would cost assets. If KD can magically upgrade Murphy for less than the assets acquired in trading him, then go for it. Otherwise, stick with Murphy and improve your tank standings. |

I’d bring the 2 kids back up, put Murphy in the Press Box and send Z to the Rock. The rooks need the NHL reps. |

In the Blackhawks charity auction that ends today, a Stalock worn, signed mask has a current bid of $2,650. That’s a heck of a charity write off.
A Hossa signed red uniform sweater is only $900. |

Once at the zoo when I was a kid I saw a leopard change its spots. My mother said it was pure folly and took me to an eye doctor. |

And Wiz, with respect to you and Panger Woll is what I'd call technical with a bunch of athleticism to back that up when things get funky. |

Watched the first period of Wings/Sharks game, and the Sharks looked decent. With the three vets that the Hawks have lost in the past month, they just may be the worst team in the NHL right now. Hopefully KD is done tanking after this year and has better plan for 24/25. |

Despite the pain it's damn fun to follow this rebuild. Despite the rocky stretch I could not be happier with all the rooks and now I sit here before puck drop excited to see Crevier.
Takes some effort but following so many legit prospects is all part of it.

It is fun to follow, would like to see a couple of young forwards next year, either current prospects or through a trade, but young being the key word. By the way 4-1 Wings now, so much for the Sharks looking decent. |

Just laughing at the pairing, Zaitsev 2nd shift already in the box
If McCabe + can get us a 1st and 2nd anything is possible |
