Odd man breaks per game against. - madmike71
Boyd was talking about this earlier, just regarding the Pens. I find it very interesting that the top three teams in league standings are right down there close to the Pens. Pens are basically giving up one more odd man break than them a game.... |

Agreed, I'm just wondering how he got that contract? His numbers must have been good in NJ? He's a big awkward pilon right now - Thorny87
Those might be better teams that can afford to do that. A system that requires a goalie tandem of Jarry and Nedeljkovic to stand on the heads all the time doesn't sound like a sustainable plan for success. And I'd imagine that stat is getting worse the way they've been playing.
General point is the Pens need to improve a lot more than just the PP. 5v5 hasn't been great either. |

I believe that chart is all situations too, I'd like to know what the Pens odd man rushes against are at 5v5, and see what the difference is between 5v5 and PP.

Kinda paraphrasing a comment on that twitter post here......1.4 odd man rushes against a game....that's what separates 2nd and 28th haha...so little less than half a rush against a period hahah.
When you look at it this way its not near as dramatic as you initially think. |

The only time the power play has been good in the last ten years is when Hornqvist has been in there. |

Wow - seems Owen Pickering looks to be left off Canada's WJC roster. Yager makes it as expected, but a lot of depth charts I saw had Pickering as a second pairing guy. Surprised he didnt make it. |

Outside of kostopolous no one has said anything good about Pickering. And obviously TK can’t poop talk him. I’m gonna guess Pickering is a bust. |

It's even more brutal when you look at who Pickering lost out to. It isnt like he lost to a deep blueline who all were picked top 10-15. Only one defensemen on Canada's list was selected in the top 15. The rest were picked in the 20s or outside of the first round.
Big yikes. |

If you work a cycle on the PP it absolutely works. Just saying. |

Lol at how quick people are to say bust around here. Particularly since he seems to be one of the two biggest surprises from those who follow prospects. On a much less competitive American team, Jake Guentzel never made it, but he turned out alright.
Real talk, Pickering hasn't had the offensive development they dreamed of. But that was always in doubt , or else a guy with his size and tools would be top ten. He's more likely going to be the guy that plays next to a star, not the star defenseman himself. |

I remember when they drafted him that was the projection.....at least that's what I read. A Brian Dumolin type. If he becomes that, that's great.

Throughout the summer I read numerous reports that were not impressed with where his development is at compared to his peers. That’s all I know. If he manages to make it to the show, awesome. If not, 🤷🏻♂️ |

More physical Dumo is what I'm hoping for. |

Prospect evaluators tend to weigh offensive upside on defensemen way too heavy IMO. For people hoping his tools would develop into a bigger offensive game, he's been disappointing. But as a top four shutdown type he's progressing well. Dumo and Pettersson were similar guys who never progressed enough offensively but used those tools to become good shutdown defensemen. (Pickering has a little more upside than them because of a more physical element.)
Whether they should have drafted a left handed defensive D with a rare 1st round pick or swung for more upside like they did with Yager is up for debate, but I think he was a pry safe pick. |

The way they rank defensemen, a guy like Dumoulin will be considered iffy. But guys like Pouliot and Ty Smith get ranked as top ten prospects in the entire league. |

Makes sense. Well hopefully we see him in the A next year. |
