I would also try and move Ristolainen but I don't think that will be possible without taking it on the chin. I seriously doubt that Bonk will be in the NHL next season. He'll be 19 - MJL

Walker and Seeler are gone at the TDL if I was the GM.
Move into next year with Sanheim, York and Risto. Find younger d-men that need a fresh start or promote from within to fill out the rest. I am fine with one veteran on a 1-2 year deal.
Does anyone know if Bonk will be ready next year? - mickel25
briere mentioned he has taken a nice step forward

Speaking of next year, anyone know how Andres is playing? We could really use him and/or Grans to move up. |

Listen, I am sorry you were wrong about Frost. I told you not to take a victory lap after last season and now you look foolish. I am sorry about this, I tried to warn you but you didn't listen. I am also sorry you were wrong about Risto. I told you he would improve once he got real coaching with the Flyers. I told you Risto was playing the best of all the Flyers defenseman and yet you wouldn't acknowledge it and now you look foolish. I am sorry the Flyers are heads and shoulders a better team than they were when Torts took over, and it was done in about one season. I told you Torts was a good coach and you just wouldn't believe me, and now you look foolish. And I am sorry that Farabee is pretty much what I said he was, a middle six forward. You were so gung-ho about Farabee and rebuked me when I said I needed to see more, and now, once again, you look foolish because, alas, this is what Farabee is. If you would just listen to me you would be in such a better place in your life. It's just sad for me to see what you have become. - jd250

So I missed most of the game as I had plans on Sat but I got back just in time to watch Risto check Cosby in front of the net and watch Crosby flop to the ice face first. I have no idea how well Risto played but I was ready to give him player of the game just for that cross-check...

Bonk is 2-3 years away at best. I can see him having his rookie year same year as MM. |

how do you improve if you don't play? flyers are playing to win th ecoach trust staal. simple as that - hello it's me 2050
Just like you get to be a better coach if you don’t coach but watch the game from the press box with the GM? It’s simple Torts logic. |

Speaking of slowing down. Is anyone else in here rooting against Ovechkin to break Gretzky's goal record? - MBFlyerfan
YES |
|
|
|
As great as Ovechkin is at scoring, averaging 45 goals per season over his career, Mike Bossy average 57 goals per season in the 10 years he played. Amazing when you think about it, but I think it's harder to score now given the size and equipment of the goalies than it was even in the 80s. So there is a clear case that Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer in NHL history even if he doesn't break the record, which I agree he probably will. - jd250

There's a magical, pixie dust fantasy land perspective that every coach and player can benefit from. The miracle reset that is gained from sitting in the press box.

I think what was meant by this statement is Frost is an offensive player. He is not a checker or a guy that is a bottom 6 type player. For Frost to be successful in this league he needs to play in the top 6 and on the PP, and to do that he needs to consistently generate offence (i.e scoring chances). Foerster is a different player than Frost, and though he was not scoring, he was generating scoring chances and getting shots on goal, plus winning puck battles so you knew his scoring was going to come. It's not always about results at first, its first looking to see if the player is playing the right way and Foerster has been great in this regard this entire season so far. - jd250
Tough to argue this except if this is truly the case, why not play Foerster lower in the line up? Okay, so Foerster can hit. He’s positionally sound. He’s strong along the boards. All of this can be true but even bottom 6 players can do all of this. If a guy isn’t scoring, put the most talented players in that position to score. Don’t scratch them. |

In my opinion, you can't remove the longevity factor. Scoring goals not just a high level in a season, but doing it for 20 years. Ovechkin is scoring 40 and 50 goals a season at 36 and 37 years of age.

Finally real hockey talk.
Yeah, Ov is undeniably better than Bure. In fact Ov is likely the greatest Russian player ever.
I’d like to know who you have, Federov or Datsyuk? |
