I thought at least Houda should have been replaced this past offseason.

Maclean as well for the horrific 0-22 PP during the post season.

Personally I’d like to see a complete revamping. GM on down. Sell all assets by the deadline (including Barzal). The only asset I keep is Sorokin and maybe Pelech and Dobson

If you're going to sell everyone but those three, you may as well sell them too.
I think a major retool would be better but I can't even see that happening. Get a coach who can have them focus on defensive fundamentals, sneak into the playoffs and then focus on 24-25. Martin, Clutter and possibly Wahlstrom are all gone. The cap will increase by $4.2m, so we'll have about $10m to sign Holmstrom and consider upgrades

Goalies like Sorokin (who’s still young) are hard to come by. My contention is to build from the goalie out. Pelech and Dobson are assets that are tough to acquire, and the draft is obviously never a guarantee. That’s my rationale with keeping the aforementioned 3.

Doubt any of this happens as ownership just took on a big note and are going to opt to sell tickets….even if it means status quo. Judging by Lamberts presser, where he’s talking about getting pts as a positive in blown lead losses….we’re looking more at status quo

Yeah, I'm not advocating for Sorokin's trade, nor am I for Barzal. My primary point there is that if you're going to talk about a total rebuild, you're looking at least at a few years until they start to compete again. So while Pelech will be 30 next Aug and Sorokin will be 29, they could be near their mid 30's before the team starts reaching that stage.
Of course to even consider this, you'd have to move some significantly heavy contracts. With the cap going up and a few guys leaving, I'd be more comfortable with trying to move 1-3 guys and acquiring 2-3 impact players while rejuvenating our prospect pipeline

I find a lot of positives in the last 10 games too
I'm positive Mayfield sucks
I'm positive that the coach is lost
I'm positive he needs to be fired

I've never seen a player in the NHL worse at clearing the puck than Mayfield

I’m not a Barzal guy….so I’d be fine with selling him for a first and a blue chip.
I’d love to move some pieces at the deadline to aquire either prospects or picks.

It's time to play d first and from the net out and stop putting so much emphasis on scoring.

I think you bring up a good point. Players contracts are based on pts and or production. Playing a defensive style doesn’t get a player like Barzal paid. It would stand to reason that Barzal might have been one of the players calling for Trotz’ firing. As you said they abandoned that defensive style and the result is back to third period collapses.

Teams that win, all play good defensive hockey.
Barzal is making 9 plus million. Basically earned that playing under Barry. When teams play well together, players play better and GM’s pay them to keep the teams together.
As k him if he was happier winning under Barry or playing like shat under this clown.

I agree. Some just want to focus on coaching though.
- ses111

Well that’s the only thing that changed right? It’s the same team we have have trotted out for years. What’s changed?
Why don’t we show the Clown the door and see if it helps before we say it won’t.

I'm all for a coaching change. What is Lou waiting for if Lane is so bad? I'm just warning a coaching change will not fix everything. If the goal is to win a Cup, you need to be good both offensively and defensively. You cannot be very good on defense and then you struggle to score when you really need it. I can do without more Canes series like last year.

They need to get what they can get for Nelson, Barzal and everyone not named Sorokin and Dobson. Lane and Lou need to hit the road and let a younger fresher GM hire his staff and build around those 2 players. At least build a team that is fast and fun to watch.

Defense wins there’s no arguing that. Although Lane might.

Haven't they moved the goalposts on that to there not being any inflation at all?
