This is an interesting Twitter thread to read as many people seem to be confusing labrum surgery with hip resurfacing (which is a form of hip replacement - physicians refer to it as 'hip replacement' though it's less severe than so-called total hip replacement). It would be very cool if Kane bucked the odds on this but I'm very, very skeptical that someone can play at even a decent level in the NHL with an artificial hip joint.

Backstrom was also an absolutely atrocious skater this season. Not even close to his standards and probably not even a legit NHL skater. He's done without a miraculous recovery.

Leaf's don't need an over the hill forward, Their defense is awful an until they fix that problem this team is going nowhere.

Leaf's would be smart to dump Marner who is pretty much useless most of the time. Trading Nylander and keeping Marner would be a big mistake but then again Leaf's never do the right thing. What is it now almost 60 years and still counting.

I don't think there's any coming back after you tried playing with a metal ball and cup in your hip and it didn't work out. Maybe they'll eventually come up with something better. I was thinking yesterday that a lot of people will be checking those Edge stats on Kane in a few weeks.

Regarding Corey Perry incident:

According to sources, an alcohol fueled incident involving Perry was alleged to have occurred during an event that included corporate sponsors and team employees in attendance. It remains unclear what allegedly took place, who witnessed it and who reported it to the team.

So who else is Kane friends with? If it doesn’t work out in Detroit this season, who ever shall he sign with next year. He already had to play again with Panarin. Now he goes to play with Debrincat. Who is next on the list?

A source at the Athletic said Perry (allegedly) dragged his sack across the face of a waiter, then climbed on top of a table and start yelling "two minutes for hooking!", then he dove off the table and faked an injury.

Dallas. He’ll sign a base contract so he can play with Seguin again.

I don’t think the comments are so much against Kane but more about the track record of those having that surgery and their lack of performance thereafter. Couple that with his age and decline.

It’s not no risk. What if he’s healthy enough to play but not at top six level? Do they keep him up in the lineup because of who he is? If so, how does that affect team performance, chemistry and morale?

Neither Yzerman or LaLonde will treat Kane any different than any other free agent player. If he's not top 6 level he probably won't get re-signed as the Wings have more young talent that will need a roster spot next year (Edvinsson, Danielson). I'm sure Kane knows that as well. He's going to have to earn his ice time and he'll get a shot at doing that. Yzerman is a pretty astute GM... and the young talent are still the priority in this rebuild.

Agree but, Marner has a no trade. Dubas franked the Leafs with all these no trades! As for Nylander, he’s already gone, just hasn’t got his new sweater yet. Leafs will get a decent D and a 1st rounder if Nylander extends.

You think he will extend without a NTC?

The Leafs are not looking for a Top 6 forward and I doubt they were willing to gamble with Kane.

Well, they BETTER be looking for something. D is suspect, even more so with Lilly and Gio out.

I’m not betting against Kane. Proof will be in the pudding. Frankly, I think he is going to surprise a lot of people. It’s crazy that everyone thinks he won’t recover to be productive again. From that short list of players who’ve had this hip surgery, the one guy from that list I’d bet on recovering to be productive would be Kane. Sad for backstrom, but did he execute what Kane did for rehab? Looked to me Kane dialed in his rehab. And for you Kane haters, all that negativity is going to fuel him to prove the nasayers wrong. Btw, I was never a fan of Kane until he joined the Wings. If you haven’t watched his press interview yet, you should.
