The same could be said about Toronto and their goaltending and defence. You may make the playoff, but then Tean Fizzle Out kicks in.

Either this team can win and get back into a competitive posture or it cannot.

Let's be honest, if they can't do it in December there will no runway left once January comes around.

If they don't make it, We will be thinking about substantial pieces being moved.

This was not expected.

They need a few back to back wins here. At least 4W in next 5W. Right now it's a brain dead decision to be talking with inactive coaches.

They went 8-4-2 last December. If they can win at that pace, they will be in the playoff hunt.

Winning 4 out of 5, all is good.

Losing 4 out of 5, all is bad.

Seems to be no in between with this team.

DJ will get the month of December, unless they lose 4 in a row or 8 of ten. By that time, it will be too late....

they need to win at a 80% or higher rate to even sniff the playoff right now, they are not capable of doing that with smith as HC

Greig was activated off LTIR and it looks like he will be playing tomorrow. They are currently cap compliant now .... with 12 players, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies.
But Kastelik is still on LTIR. When he comes off LTIR there will be difficulties. We can assume they send MacEwen back to AHL, but we still will not have enough room (we will be just over the cap).
Let alone, what do we do when Pinto comes back in Jan.

So we still need to be looking to trade someone.
- can't send Hamonic down, he has a NMC. I could actually see the Sens buying him out now. Doesn't save much, but it is enough for Kastelik to return.
- we could send Kubalik down but I assume they may try to trade him first.

At some point you may even try to trade Kubalik and Brannstrom to try to make room for trades etc.

Chabot and Norris need to go for this team to compete for a cup. Too many injuries, not nearly as effective as their top seasons - they still have lots of trade value because their young. I would move on from them

Norris was out almost all of last season. As a young player, this hurts progress in development. Chabot spent too many years playing too much time, but I feel the defence plays better as a unit with him .... and it limits the amount of time each guy will play.

Norris needs more then just a dozen games to get back his game. It takes time.

Our expectation level on both players is way too high.

Let's also be careful, because once we trade Chabot, either Sanderson or Chychrun will be annointed the next "Codi Ceci/Jason Spezza" whipping boy. That is just how this fanbase rolls.

The NHL salary cap is expected to jump to $87.7 million for next season based off current projections, commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday.

The rise would represent an increase of $4.2 million from the $83.5 million cap for the 2023-24 season. Bettman said the league is projecting revenues of $6.2 billion this season.

ott may have the most passive PK in hockey, they apply absolutely no pressure on the points which allows the other team to shoot freely and set up

Great evening of sports entertainment. Makes a huge difference when you get some saves.

Is Tkachuk the best power forward in the league?

100% - what a game by him! I always wanted him and Stutzle together, especially if Tarasenko plays like this. He's got almost 250 goals past 10 seasons.

Agree with post above too. THIS is the kind of entertainment and push back we want to see as fans. I think we'd all be ok if they don't make the playoffs but have a lot more games like this and see development from Batherson, Tkachuk, Stutzle, Sanderson, Grieg, Bernard Docker, Norris, Brannstrom, Chychrun, and Pinto when he returns. One thing I forget is that ALL of these guys are 25 and under so still very young but they have to take steps this year and show a lot of development and growth through adversity. The other thing is keeping leads and playing a full 60. There are some games they lost this year which they clearly should've won with the way they started the game and the chances they get.

Also - play Anton Foresberg!! I got a good feeling with this goalie

This team has looked pretty good at 5 on 5. It's the special teams and goaltending that have been weak to date. Getting regular 910+ performances makes a huge difference.

"Not many teams have been able to bludgeon the Rangers the way the Senators did Tuesday night."

Mollie Walker's lede sentence in her NY Post column said it all. The Rangers are a strong physical presence on the boards. They have had an outstanding start to their season. Sens matched their work ethic on every shift.

Do not underestimate the importance of Jake Sanderson's work along the boards deep in his own zone. Rangers stay hard on the puck every shift. Sanderson is so cool. He refuses to be intimidated or rushed.

Even when Sanderson gets caught, he gets back and breaks up the play. He is SO smart. Mike Johnson said it last night...."re-roll that draft and it's Stuzle Sanderson going 1/2"

Brady Tkachuk is just a beast of a hockey player. I can't wait to see him in the playoffs.

Most of that game was dangerous fire-wagon hockey. Sens come out on top. Doesn't happen often.

Bummer about Chabbot. Hopefully a sprain and not a tear.

Jacques Martin hired as a senior advisor to the Senators. I think its a good move adding someone who can teach everyone how to be more defensively oriented.

This team certainly needs defensive structure. A good short / medium term move.

As critical as we all are of DJ , I hope Jacques doesn't end up the next permanent coach as he would continue to improve D, but not sure he's the guy to get the best out this teams offensive stars.

Broberg is available from the Oilers. He may be the wrong side shot but how bout a Branny for Broberg trade? Would shave $1million from the Sens. Don't know about if the Oil have any cap space though.
