I do not recall Meltzer ever speaking directly about the behavior of the coach and his interaction with him.
Bounds are being broken.
This is important.
I'm not sure of the dimensions of that 'import', but it strikes me as big.
Bill is a FAN. If he is revealing this moment, he thinks it is important and it has thoroughly ticked him off. It's not typical journalism for a gent getting paid by the employer of the coach to place himself in the crosshairs of that coach and his emotional baggage.
Ripples will be seen.
This is the most dramatic moment in my excessively long fandom.
That is based on the normal rectitude of Bill, his ability to frame a situation, and his EXPLOSIVE outburst here.
It's like a seamount deciding to volcano. Doesn't look like much at first...... |

Wow, this is rich. So I read this morning on my phone that Atkinson called the team out for discipline and unacceptable effort? WTF!! Has this guy even been playing lately. Better look in the mirror before you go chastising your team mates!! Bozo! |

Anytime you want to say it to my face buddy? I'll meet wherever you want? How bout the class of 23 ice rink? Anywhere bud! The last guy to call me that to my face was in Madison Square Garden way back in 1989 and he was a Rags fan. I tagged him good with a quick right cross to the face!! Happened so quick that the security guards didn't see it! Gotta give the dude credit...he was out on his feet, but he didn't go down. The guards sent us off in the same direction and we walked side by side for a bit. Dude didn't utter another syllable. I'm a coward? Bailed hay in high school...you ever do that tough guy? My first job out of high school was working at a prison. I worked there for almost 2 years. You ever work at a prison tough guy? One of my best friends (doesn't live in the area anymore) was a black belt in karate. His hands were considered a deadly weapon. Showed me lots of pointers. Co me on internet pu$$y!! Let's see what ya got tough guy!! - Phillywhiteout
And your 6'5" with a 10" monster too hahahahahahhahahaha

A lot of fighting amongst the board members today. This is what happens when things turn to poop. Everyone blames everyone else for everything. And why wouldn't we? What do we have to look forward to? The brightest part of this organization from the CEO down to the back-up goalie on the Phantoms (and everything in between) is playing 4,800 miles away in a communist state and will not be here for another 3 years. MAYBE. |

Do I take that to mean that you don't think it's different this season? Honestly not trying to be smart. Honest question. - MJL
Cliff do you not think the effort is better than past years? Do you not think their compete level is diff than past years?
Just because it may not translate to wins doesn't not mean they have improved dramatically in those areas. |

Staal 9 minutes. Zamula 10. Cant continue giving your bottom pair that few minutes. Eventually it will have a trickle down effect. Seeler at 18+ also isnt ideal as that will also bite you in time.
Cates 7 minutes. Has the coached moved on from him? Is he now an afterthought? Entire 4th line under 9 minutes. What a great approach. Is there a worse 4th line from a points perspective than what the flyers throw out?
The forest still being fed 20+ is also interesting. - hello it's me 2050
He does seem to be giving Foerster the “Tippet” treatment. I think the kid has played well and I’d rather see him getting those minutes over an Atkinson or Laughton. He does need to start to bury some of his chances.
When Risto returns…the D will morph into something else…the question is what? |

I have zero issue with him continuing to play him. None at all. Just surprised and not sure why he has taken a like to him.

I’d like Atkinson to play better…but the support from the Flyers Forwards yesterday was not consistent at all. But, ya I found it funny that it came from him…I guess he is a vet.🤷♂️ |

"It's because they want to build a stronger foundation for the future, and they're willing to listen basically ... on every position - not every player, but every position. They feel like they've got the assets to move," Dreger continued.
rebuilding baby...
Philadelphia has a core of relatively young talent, with nine players at 24 years old or younger, including Joel Farabee, Owen Tippett, and Bobby Brink. The Flyers' No. 1 goaltender, Carter Hart, is 25. Travis Konecny, the team's leading goal-scorer, is 26. Defenseman Travis Sanheim (who leads the team in points) is 27.
no mention of York or Frost..... |

Well he benched Tippet in the 2nd, and Hathaway was in the box with two fights….add in he shortened the bench in the 3rd quite a bit….some of those ice time numbers got pretty lopsided. |

This is what I brought up yesterday….again It’s Dreger saying it. I do think DB wants and is trying to be agressive….we’ll see if he can start to move some pieces. Remember trades are hard. Just ask our previous GM. |

Just ask our previous GM. - landros 2 My question is what pieces do you have to move? Hart? TK? Laughts? Is there really all that much? I dunno... I personally want a king's ransom for Hart or TK. Otherwise, no dice. Laughts can go whenever, but I wish they would have done that when they apparently could have had a first round pick for him. |

there are numerous players to move if they really were rebuilding. |

I just don't know about TK and Hart cause they are in that tweener age and I like their games for the most part. I actually think TK could be the captain if you could move Coots and eventually Atkinson next year. TK brings it every night now and he has the potential to be a 35-40 goal guy. |

One of the questions was mine. I asked about the third goal the Rangers scored today.
Poehling had a scoring chance. Sheshterkin made the save and held for the stoppage. The Rangers won the D-zone faceoff, puck went behind the net. They went the length of the ice and scored. I asked him where the breakdowns happened.
He gets sarcastic, as if I'm asking about the second (Kreider) goal.
I said, "No, not that goal. The one that started with a faceoff in the Rangers zone."
Dismissive: "I don't know what goal you're talking about."
Well, gee, the Rangers scored three goals. It wasn't the first one, which started with a set play off a faceoff win in the Rangers zone. Swung the other way shortly thereafer into a 2-on-1. And it wasn't the second one.
As such, it could ONLY be third goal, which went down as I described it. Started with a D zone faceoff for NY, they go down and score.
Also, I already KNEW where the breakdowns happened (there was more than one). I've been watching hockey for over 50 years, since I was a little kid. I know what I'm looking at. Bu, for authoritativeness, this a question for a coach to break down -- didn't have support up high, our D overaggressive at the blueline, forward didn't backcheck, D failed to go to the near side post. Don't have to name names.
He came up small on that. And even smaller in refusing to discuss the power play on a day they went 0-for-6.
Accountability is a two-way street. Professionalism is a two-way street, too. - bmeltzer
He comes off as a jerk.
