Sanheim stinks. Same as he’s always been just now provy is out of the way so “he’s the guy” & getting the most opportunities. Wildly overrated by the homers just lile provy was. Provy’s -6 most among dman on cbus & he’s not even playing the most minutes there. Just like CC was overrated. True competitor the young guys in Ott will follow his lead. Yeah his lead to mediocrity, empty stat totals & coaches getting axed. Most will never stop overrating our own. Laughton a 4th liner on a good team. TK a 2nd liner on a good team. - Fopa21
Empty statting his way into the top 70 all time point producers in NHL history by the time he is done. Impressive feat.

Here are the facts. Sanheim had his worst NHL year last season; Sanheim was not driving offense and frequently lost puck battles at net front and on the boards. A clear message was sent in the off-season when the Flyers tried to trade him and no one wanted him, or at least no one wanted to give up anything of value for him. Sanheim recommitted himself this summer, bulked up and came in with a fresh attitude. He has played much better. Again, if you think coaching had nothing to do with it, you better stop inhaling that funny stuff. - jd250
I have watched Sanheim since he played for the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL vs the Victoria Royals. He was an absolute stud of a #1 dman. He did it all, ran the PP, rushed the puck, hit, I have seen him fight, and he was their best defensive dman most nights, He played with Jake Bean as his d pairing partner.
We haven't seen this Travis yet. He played a lot of minutes for Calgary and seemed to thrive on it.
His performance so far this year kinda mimics how he was playing for Calgary as their #1.
Do you ever stop and think maybe the extra ice time is good for him, and it is why his play has picked up? He is no longer stuck behind Provorov.....and he is playing his best hockey of his career. Has nothing to do with him stepping up and take the reigns...it's all on Torts....gotcha. |

Do you think other fan bases come to these boards and argue about each other's opinions of their team as much as we do on here or are we just a cut above the rest?
This group would have a great tailgate fight club. |

Well he is clearly a jackass and you're not quite getting the interim coach reference and what that means. - MJL

About 3 years and everywhere Torts has been except 1 place, he has coached 5 or more years. Thus his shelf life is double typical NHL coaches, but people on here say he is a jack-ass and an interim coach - jd250
I complemented the things I think he’s doing well for the team and what he isn’t. I don’t hate the guy, I just prefer a different style coach for this team. Watching his press conferences and handling of certain players over his career, yes, I think he acts like a jack ass. |

Tortorella has the team playing as a team. He's always been good with that. You would expect that from an interim coach though. I made that comment multiple times. He's a highly paid interim coach. Like you hinted at, his style of play is very limiting. He's about the worst coach you could have for player development. - MJL
Wish somebody would fix this franchise worst PP. |

Any more news on Cechmanek? I was a fan of his, and feel he doesn't get his due. To me, he was a cut above Esche, Boosh, Biron, and the rest from that era
With all the early deaths following head injuries from decades before, just wondering what happened, though don't mean to pry - therabbi
out of those listedn cechmanek was the best but got the least goal support |

Your post is completely empty of any rational or reference in how coaching was the reason for it. I think it's clear that coaching was part of the reason for his poor season last year. Coaching has very little to do with it.
Just a few weeks ago, you called Sanheim a stiff and posted that he is not good offensively or defensively. - MJL
All I have said here is that Sanheim has played better this season compared to last season, and I think the Torts and Shaw have done a good job getting the most out of him. I still do not think he should be playing anywhere near 27 minutes a game nor should he be playing the PP. I think Sanheim is better, but I still do not think he is that good defensively or offensively, and certainly does not belong on a top pairing for any decent team. Sanheim had that nice goal against Anaheim I think, but he does that far too little for me to to say he is a good offensive defenseman. |

He did act like a jack-ass in his early years, but after the one year in Vancouver I think Torts really started to change and now I think he has been very good with the Flyers so far. Look, if you recall I was not in favor I hiring Torts. At the time I called it a lazy hiring by Fletcher, but since he's been here, Torts has won me over. His press conferences are informative and insightful and he is has had the most impact into this franchises admission that a rebuild was needed. |

-3. Nick seeler is plus 10. Did you really use his success at the jr level as reassurance he’s good 😂 how many stud jr players never make it in nhl. A reason why it’s jrs |

Im not on the torts bandwagon, but was he the coach when columbus with a lineup of a bunch of scrubs knocked the mighty leafs out of the playoffs in the 1st round? - bradster
It was Tampa Bay and that bunch of scrubs included Matt Duchene, Artemi Panarin, Seth Jones, Pierre Luc Dubois and Zach Werenski. |

I state it again. If it is Tortorella and Shaw getting the most out of him, why didn't they do it last season? I agree, he shouldn't be playing 27 minutes a game but that's what happens when you don't have a #1 defense pairing and the rest of the defense core is made up of two 2nd pair defenseman and a bunch of 3rd pair guys. He should be playing on the PP. He's not PP QB but he can be a 2nd unit guy.
This is the problem with your opinions. If you want to say that Sanheim is not good enough on either end of the puck to be a legit 1st pairing defenseman, most would agree with you. You don't do that though. You post platitudes and falsehoods along with rhetoric and fallacies.

LOL, He hasn't changed one iota. Reference when he was asked if it was hard to scratch Frost. He said no and then had to apologize. That's being a jackass. If I was Frost, I would tell Tortorella to go (frank) himself. Probably be a dumb thing to do but Tortorella has said he looks for and craves conflict. Any idea what might have led to him apologizing? That's what we need, a coach with informative and insightful press conferences. Reality check, Tortorella's press conferences are complete and total BS. He couldn't be more full of crap. You just don't realize it. You will eventually. Maybe. |

Gonna have to start a petition to nominate Torts for that Jack Adams award! Johnny Hockey getting benched in Columbus along with Patrick Laine. Guess Torts isn't the only one that knows Laine is a lazy hockey player that could be so much more! Thanks! |

Gaudreau and Laine have 3 goals and 9 points between them. What's wrong there? Two proven scorers in the NHL.

LOL, it is about that current discussion. You also fail to realize that the discussion is not about a young developing player. It's about a 27 year old player.

hmm, that's not how i took it.
jd250 seems to be saying it is Torts and his coaching crew who have turned Sanheim around this year.
MJL said why didn't they do that last year? How is it not the player?
I agree with him. It is not Torts and his magic coaching, the player knuckled down and made changes to his diet and excercise programs and training habits. Sanheim has taken the reigns and ran with it.....I don't see how this is anything Torts did.

Another poster linked to what he called another fabulous presser by Tortorella. For poops and giggles I watched it. That one 17 minute press conference, confirmed just about every belief and thought I have about Tortorella and why he is an archaic coach that is not the right coach for this team. More concerned about intangibles, what's right for the older players and the room and a standard that they're trying to build. As well as how his philosophy and beliefs in how to develop young players is stuck in the stone ages. The most frightening part is that he readily admits that the Flyers are not truly rebuilding. They're trying to win for the players in the room with a sprinkling of rebuild on the side. Winning is the meat and potatoes of the entree and rebuilding is the side salad. |

And every reason that you mentioned is why he needs to go. I used to be a fan of his but those days are gone. He's a goon supporter and 1990s 4th line specialist. He unfairly targets players who don't play the way that he demands, even when its not the player's top reason that they were drafted.
He has got to go of we truly want to rebuild. His style of play is unsustainable and is going to soon result is several injuries to the guys on the ice |

Again, it’s not exclusive to today. MJL has been this big proponent of the teams developing players and I’ve been very vocal about it is about the player and not much at all to do with the organization. And ironically he switches his position today about Sanheim. Another win for me |
