You're on an extremely small micro island in both cases. More like a pebble in the middle of the ocean.
If there was a vote today, who would win the Jack Adams? - MJL
Tortorella would certainly be a finalist for the Jack Ass award.
I will give him credit that the team seems more focused and disciplined, but his style of play and decision making frustrates the hell out of me.
Lavy may not have had a shelf life but I miss the offensive mindset he had. I wish we could have Brindamour now |

As I remember it people mostly just thought he was a bad coach. Being a Flyer retread made him even more unappealing. - Dkos
We are definitely a board full of high intelligence in here, huh?! š

Tortorella has the team playing as a team. He's always been good with that. You would expect that from an interim coach though. I made that comment multiple times. He's a highly paid interim coach. Like you hinted at, his style of play is very limiting. He's about the worst coach you could have for player development.

For sure. He's got them buzzing. Hopefully Demko keeps it up. I usually don't pull for the Canadian teams but I'd have zero issue with Canucks if they went on a run. - Pelle31Forever
I always cheer for an underdog team as long as it's not in the metro division. Screw all of those teams not from Philly |

Question for you. Sanheim showed up this season in game 1 a different player from last season. If it's coaching, why wasn't that coaching done last season when he struggled for the majority of the season? - MJL
Because itās the player who matured on his own..what arenāt you getting bud, this is what Iāve been telling you for some time. Kids had 4-5 coaches, 3 GMs, heās figured it out on his own not some magical development procedure |

He hasnāt won a cup in 20 years since before the lockout and the one he did win was on the back of his first overall pick Lecavalier. - psuhockey
understand what you are saying, but is also easier said than done.

though I also think the clear signals from the new regime had a role in Sanheim's renewed focus. |

What is the shelf life of an nhl coach? - hello it's me 2050
About 3 years and everywhere Torts has been except 1 place, he has coached 5 or more years. Thus his shelf life is double typical NHL coaches, but people on here say he is a jack-ass and an interim coach |

york hasn't started the way i hoped he would. but think he is our best option to quaterback the PP. - Peter Richards
Yes, York has been a disappointment, especially since for team USA York QB'd their top PP unit. I hope Andrae can get back up to the Flyers this year to get a chance to QB the PP. In the interim, I would like to see Walker QB the 1st unit or just go with 5 forwards. Risto is also a candidate when he gets back into the lineup. |

Im not on the torts bandwagon, but was he the coach when columbus with a lineup of a bunch of scrubs knocked the mighty leafs out of the playoffs in the 1st round?

Well he is clearly a jackass and you're not quite getting the interim coach reference and what that means.

Ristolainen should be tried on the PP but I don't think it would be proper to throw him out on it right away. Let him get some games under him and get a feel for the puck. Until then, Sanheim should get top PP time for the defenseman.

So they tried last year but they're coaching wasn't as good as it is this year?
If you're not in the room and don't know the reason last year. How do you know that they're coaching is the reason this year? Are you in the room this year? This would be where the oxygen and brain thing comes in for you. - MJL
Here are the facts. Sanheim had his worst NHL year last season; Sanheim was not driving offense and frequently lost puck battles at net front and on the boards. A clear message was sent in the off-season when the Flyers tried to trade him and no one wanted him, or at least no one wanted to give up anything of value for him. Sanheim recommitted himself this summer, bulked up and came in with a fresh attitude. He has played much better. Again, if you think coaching had nothing to do with it, you better stop inhaling that funny stuff. |

Your post is completely empty of any rational or reference in how coaching was the reason for it. I think it's clear that coaching was part of the reason for his poor season last year. Coaching has very little to do with it.
Just a few weeks ago, you called Sanheim a stiff and posted that he is not good offensively or defensively. |

Sanheim stinks. Same as heās always been just now provy is out of the way so āheās the guyā & getting the most opportunities. Wildly overrated by the homers just lile provy was. Provyās -6 most among dman on cbus & heās not even playing the most minutes there. Just like CC was overrated. True competitor the young guys in Ott will follow his lead. Yeah his lead to mediocrity, empty stat totals & coaches getting axed. Most will never stop overrating our own. Laughton a 4th liner on a good team. TK a 2nd liner on a good team. |

They are 7-7 at the moment. Hardly out of it. I also expected them to be in the playoff mix this season. - MBFlyerfan
I don't think they are out of it at all. It has been a trying start.. a fired GM, a lost 1st pick, struggling on the ice, the Pinto contract and suspension and we are only a month in. I don't like their goalie, but they are solid at their forward and defense positions. Let's see where they are in January. |
