he does indeed. Never a question about his talent.

Fletcher did the right thing in this instance imo.

- hello it's me 2050

imo the right thing wouldve been trading him and jake sooner than he did. Better late than never

They tried I'm sure. Maybe Sanheim was stubborn. Maybe he was not committed. I am not in the room so I don't know the reason. But I do know Sanheim went into the offseason highly motivated and came into camp in great condition, and to think Torts/Briere/Jones had nothing to do with it is asinine.
- jd250

So they tried last year but they're coaching wasn't as good as it is this year?
If you're not in the room and don't know the reason last year. How do you know that they're coaching is the reason this year? Are you in the room this year? This would be where the oxygen and brain thing comes in for you.

In fact Sanheim has been a disaster on the PP.
- jd250

Really, why didn't the Totorella coaching kick in all last season with Sanheim? Why did Tortorella wait until this season to improve him with his coaching?

Ristolainen did not play better last season. He was demoted to the 3rd pair and shackled by a chain to keep him from being stupid. If you want to call that better.

Konecny was trending forward long before Tortorella. All Tippet needed was ice time. Tortorella did the same thing last year to Frost, keeping him on the 4th line in the beginning of the season. He escalated it this season to scratching him for 8 games. He had to be talked to play Frost and other young players more. He has held Frost back two seasons in a row.

You have the same blind allegiance to Tortorella that you had to Fletcher.

So Sanheim developed on his own you would say?

Don't forget their goalie, as well.
A lot of potential hardware for that team this year when the awards roll around.
Tocxhet has turned that team around and Patterson adding that muscle mass has upped his game to a whole new level.
I never would have predicted the start that they've had after seeing them last season.
Way to go tocc!

- Bob Habib

For sure. He's got them buzzing. Hopefully Demko keeps it up. I usually don't pull for the Canadian teams but I'd have zero issue with Canucks if they went on a run.

You can play that game for every team and every GM. Reality is that Hextall did a solid job drafting when he was the Flyers GM. He drafted 12 NHL players in 5 drafts.
- MJL

lol, gonna die on that sword for hexy eh? How many good 1st round picks did hexy draft of the 7 or 8 they had?
It doesnt mean much picking a 4th liner in the 3rd round. The 1st round is what counts most

if they flyers are in the playoff mix come January, should be thy become somewhat buyers?
- hello it's me 2050

They should do what Detroit did last season and pull back the reigns.

Realize you'd get sh!tpumped in the 1st round better to build towards the future.

Another fantastic presser from Torts, addresses tanking and getting Brink in the lineup, start watching at about the 1:40 mark.

So Sanheim developed on his own you would say?
- ClaudeFather

No, Sanheim did his primary developing before Tortorella. Mostly under Hakstol. The issue with Sanheim last year was that he was too passive. He was fine defensively but was not attacking and playing aggressively last year compared to this year. That was true of the majority of the team, especially defensively as they struggled to adapt to the way that Tortorella wanted them to play.

sanhiem played 49 games in 17-18.

in dec 2018 hakstol was fired.

more likely Gordon. didn't sanhiem get more responsibilities after gordon took over.

So the player worked out in the summer and became more aggressive, did he do that on his own or was it developed?

So Sanheim had, Hak, AV, who ever was after AV, and then Torts. Who did all this developing, who should get the credit? Maybe the player on his own maturing ?

In my opinion, it's the player. He was too timid last season

Question for you. Sanheim showed up this season in game 1 a different player from last season. If it's coaching, why wasn't that coaching done last season when he struggled for the majority of the season?

He hasn’t won a cup in 20 years since before the lockout and the one he did win was on the back of his first overall pick Lecavalier.

He's taken 1 team past the 2nd round of the playoffs in his last 16-17 years of coaching.
Every coach who wins a cup does it on the back of his star players. Can't win without them.

IMO, you sell o miss the playoffs. but that wouldn't happen
- Peter Richards

Agreed to sell... and agreed that they won't do that, even though it's the only way to contend sooner
