You're on an extremely small micro island in both cases. More like a pebble in the middle of the ocean.

That's fine, wouldn't be the first time. I do not formulate my opinions based on how popular I think they might be.

If there was a vote today, who would win the Jack Adams?

- MJL

Looking at Vancouver’s record, probably Tocchet

No, you base your opinions on what you heard on the radio or from a press conference. Often with a very poor interpretation of what was said.

That's a black mark for sure. But to be honest, a lot of this is on the players. I talked to a couple of coaches about this and told me a lot of the PP is based on the creativity and decision making of the players. I believe the Flyers have good enough forwards that should be able to at least be a middle of the pack PP in the NHL, so the coaching has to take some of the blame here. I still think bringing in a consultant to augment the coaching staff might be the best option at this point.
- jd250

yes players are responsible as well. More coaching imo

The #1 overall problem for the Flyers is a lack of elite talent. The 2nd biggest issue is coaching.

It was a mutual parting. He was what 33? It made sense for both sides to move on. I don't think there was any animosity there at all.
- MJL

I believe, there was a rumor that Roo wanted a handshake agreement on returning to the Flyers after the season, but Fletcher would not agree to that. I think Bill would be a better source in this regard.

You think?

How about Laviolette? How about Spencer Carbury? Montgomery is certainly in the running. DeBoer in Dallas.

All are certainly in the running. It’s way too early to tell. Not sure why you find the choice of Tocchet funny though. Vancouver was a mess last year and they are now 12-4-1 and hold the 3rd best record in the NHL.

I still think he was the best coach last season and I think he is already the best coach in the league this season! Just my opinion though ...

Typical response from you. A team does not need elite talent on the PP to have a good PP. I have seen PPs with elite players that fail because of the decision making and other factors beyond pure talent. The Flyers do not have elite talent, of course, but they do have enough talent to be much much better on the PP than they are.

Any team wants to be over 100% on special teams, i.e. combination of PK +PP. The Flyers are currently 87.94% which is well below that goal. You cannot tell me that the Flyers don't have enough talent to have a PP that converts 18% of the time; the league average is about 21% this year.

But yes, you pretty much repeated what I already said, it's on the players and secondly the coaching is not getting through. What Torts says about what is needed is absolutely spot on, but it's not happening. That is why I think another voice that solely focuses on the PP is needed. Rocky Thompson is just not getting through to the players it appears.

Lavy, Tocchet, DeBoer and Montgomery certainly should be considered. I don't believe Carbury will get in the running because I think the Caps will not be there in the end. If the Flyers somehow make the playoffs, and right now they would be in believe it or not, Torts will get a lot of consideration given the pre-season predictions for this team.

I don't know if he is hurt currently, I don't follow him or any player that is not part of the Flyers system all that much. I do know how his past injuries have impacted JOB. He was really playing well for BU before he got injured and when he came back in his senior, he was a shell of himself. That's the way it goes something unfortunately. Certainly the Flyers have had their share of injuries derailing prospects.

If you mean I read a lot about the Flyers, and I listen to different podcasts to get various opinions of how the team is playing, and that helps me be informed about the team and be open to different opinions, then yes, I do formulate my opinions based on various sources. If I had a vote I would vote for Torts, because I think the Flyers are playing as well as they are because of him.

the returns of cam and ex selk as well as the better play for sanheim is a better reason than coaching.

Can't disagree, I think Hextall was a horrible drafter and the team is where it is because of his ineptitude. But to be fair to JOB, injuries really curtailed his development.

Sanheim is playing better, and Torts is a big part of the reason why, just as Risto played better under Torts last year. Same with TK, Tippet, and even Frost.

I guess. I feel like he had legitimate concerns as far as family to consider. That stuff matters to most people.

I honestly dont think he would have signed in Ottawa if he thought they would stink. Agree to disagree on that.

- MBFlyerfan

He chose Ottawa...he could have signed with the Avs, as they wanted him when Florida traded for him, but he didn't want to go to Colorado. He would have been a nice second line center behind Mckinnon, but he chose to play in Ottawa.
I think Ottawa is way better than they have shown so far...I had them pegged for top 2 in their division. Stutzle is a really good player, and Tkachuk ain't bad either. I can see this year being the first of many of them being a top seeded team once the season shakes out. The new owner is a great thing for that team.

I do not buy he is the reason he is playing better.

What can you show that Torts is the reason?

Is torts the reason York has taken a step back? Cates? Torst the reaosn GH is just there doing nothing? Reason Zamula has had a few "bad" games?

RR really didn't play much better. The game was dumbed down for him.
