LOL, He hasn't changed one iota. Reference when he was asked if it was hard to scratch Frost. He said no and then had to apologize. That's being a jackass. If I was Frost, I would tell Tortorella to go (frank) himself. Probably be a dumb thing to do but Tortorella has said he looks for and craves conflict. Any idea what might have led to him apologizing? That's what we need, a coach with informative and insightful press conferences. Reality check, Tortorella's press conferences are complete and total BS. He couldn't be more full of crap. You just don't realize it. You will eventually. Maybe.
- MJL

Or maybe you will come around and finally give Torts credit. Maybe as you imply Briere called up Torts and told him to apologize, but I don't think that is what happened. Instead I think Torts is much more self-aware than he used to be, as we all are as we get older hopefully, and when asked again about Frost he explained it further. I know one thing that I can relate to with Torts and that is I hate losing. I hate losing more than I love winning. I think Torts is the same way. Thus after a loss Torts is not going to answer questions in the moment as well as he would the next day or after a win. That's human nature for people that hate to lose. I think in the end it's a great quality, especially if your life is professional competition.

Should be a good game today if they start on time and don’t get down huge off the hop. Good test for them vs nhl elite. These are always trap games. First game back off a long west road trip normally spells disaster for this team.

As is always the case it ultimately falls to the player. In this case it’s pretty obvious Torts like a lot of fans thought there was more in there and rode him pretty hard last year and challenged him. It also pretty obvious Torts had All but given up on him as the Flyers openly tried to trade him this past summer. I really think the Flyers thought what we had seen is all we were gonna get. To Sanheims credit he took the constructive criticism and showed up with an FU attitude and looking back it appears the Flyers got lucky that no one traded for him. I honestly thought his play last year was indicative of what we were ever going to get. He’s proved me wrong this year…besides a couple of un even games( nit picking) Sanheim has played his best hockey since turning pro to start the season.

Wasn't going to go on here tonight but with the early game tomorrow, I thought I'd hop on a minute and see what's going on. So shocking to see you arguing with and insulting someone. Congratulations! It's got to be tough being right all the time and being better than everyone. How do you do it?

Really?? Cole Caufield has 15 points and his team is just below the Flyers (not on one player). Is there anyone here that wishes we didn’t select the guy?
- coffee junkie

I guess the answer is would I trade Brink and York for Caufield. Right now ... Yes!

Come on man, MJL would rather stab himself in the eye with an ice pick than give Torts any credit! There's no negotiating past that narrative!

Yep, I would still take Caufield over Brink and York just like I would have the day of that draft. Brink has NHL hands and IQ I think, but just not sure he plays the game at NHL level speed. I just don't know about York. He looks good and then he doesn't. Of course, this can all be blamed on Torts!

The worry about Caufield is staying healthy. He isn't very big and seems to get banged up, but then again York and Brink aren't very big either.

I have watched Sanheim since he played for the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL vs the Victoria Royals. He was an absolute stud of a #1 dman. He did it all, ran the PP, rushed the puck, hit, I have seen him fight, and he was their best defensive dman most nights, He played with Jake Bean as his d pairing partner.
We haven't seen this Travis yet. He played a lot of minutes for Calgary and seemed to thrive on it.
His performance so far this year kinda mimics how he was playing for Calgary as their #1.
Do you ever stop and think maybe the extra ice time is good for him, and it is why his play has picked up? He is no longer stuck behind Provorov.....and he is playing his best hockey of his career. Has nothing to do with him stepping up and take the reigns...it's all on Torts....gotcha.

- TheFreak

I will not dispute what you post here about Sanheim's minor league career because I honestly didn't know anything about him until he was drafted, and as I recall Sanheim was drafted much higher than projected. However, Sanheim is not Victor Hedman, nor is he Drew Doughty, and I don't think he will ever develop into these types of defenders on either side of the puck. Thus he should not be playing this number of minutes. He may be able to handle it, but the team ultimately will pay the price. And I can only tell you what I have seen and what I am seeing now. Sanheim historically has had the size but did not use it effectively because he needed to bulk up. Sanheim has the skating ability to lead the rush and generate offense but he does not do this consistently. This year to his credit and I am sure at the barking of the Flyers coaches and GM, Sanheim has come into this season bulked up and with a fresh attitude. He is winning more puck battles now and is more effective around the cage. However his offense is still spotty, and his performance on the PP has been poor. I think Sanheim has shown me is a solid 2nd pairing defenseman that I think needs to play less minutes to be more effective. The problem is, the Flyers do not have a top pairing defenseman on their team or in the their system. Maybe Andrae will develop into one if paired with another stud defenseman, time will tell. I can surely live with Risto and Sanheim as the 2nd pairing on this team and would love to see Walker resigned in the off-season for the 3rd pairing. I am starting to believe York is not going to make it.

I still love the guy though. I mean I woke up this morning and checked out the forum, and I got to read a page and a half of MJL going at it with 3 posters at the same time. I mean, that's impressive as well as being priceless entertainment! It makes me feel less isolated on the pebble of an island he says I am living on.

If Tortorella was much more self-aware that he used to be than he used to be, he wouldn't keep doing the same crap as he has always done.

By the way I listened to the press conference that you labeled fantastic. It was scary to listen to. Tortorella confirmed all the issues I have with him. How he is stuck in the stone ages both in terms of how to build a team and how to develop players. He also confirmed that the Flyers are not actually trying to rebuild. They're trying to win with a little bit of rebuilding on the side.

What goes through your mind with this new shtick you have talking about me? Do you really think that's going to help you? You have enough trouble talking about hockey. When you're at the top, people want to take shots at you. 3 against 1, they're at a disadvantage.

Actually, I was away for 5 days and didn't backread anything from this past week. You even have to admit though that once you're on a narrative there's no changing your mind. I still hold strong in my belief that if Torts brought a Cup to Philly you'd still find fault in the guy.

Haha. The debates in here basically boil down to differing opinions on the best way to get to a stanley cup. I have my opinion and thoughts but I will tell you, I’d happily tell everyone I was wrong if it were to come to pass that we take a path different than the one I felt best. All I want to do is attend a sc parade down broad street before I die.

Speaking of contradictions. "Sanheim historically has had the size but did not use it effectively because he needed to bulk up" Did you actually read what you just posted? Very funny.
Sanheim's offense is still spotty? LOL He's in the top 10 in the NHL in scoring among defenseman. He's 4th in the NHL in ES points in the NHL. Tied with Cale Makar and you're saying his offense is still spotty? This must be part of your spot on player evaluations.
Right now based on what I've seen. Walker should be on the 2nd pair and Ristolainen on the 3rd pair.
Now York is not going to make it. Hysterical.

I don't have narratives. I make informed opinions. I hold strong in my belief that if guys like you could actually make a case to refute my informed opinions. You would but you can't. So, you respond with nonsense like the above and other posts you made today. To my discredit, I involve myself when I should really just ignore it. It's so dam entertaining though to watch you and others implode. Can't beat him at hockey so let's try something else.
