Solid European swing.

Minnesota is a tough ugly team. Ottawa had only 1 win against Minnesota in last 12 games.

4 out of 4 points.

A win is a win. 2 OT games in Sweden. But we got 4 much needed points from this swing. Phew. I thought that Forsberg played well, and that defensively we were better. A bit dicey at times, but better.

Zub was steady. I thought JBD had a nice game as well.

Good teams find a way to win.

A win with only one goal against too. That is the biggest thing to me. And one regulation goal for.

Yes, I think that is really important. You can't always win by just going all out and trying to outscore your opponent every night. Sometimes, you need to shut the other guy down.

I thought the third period against Detroit and this game was the kind of ugly hockey the Sens need to play against some teams in order to win regularly. It sounds simplistic, but they need to win the games they are expected to win.

More of that from Forsberg is needed. Feelgood story having him win and get first star in Sweden after a rough start, hope it helps boost his spirits and get his game back.

So, watched Oilers/Lightning. Oilers outshoot them 2:1. Lightening win 6-4.

Oilers will not make playoffs with that goaltending.

Not a good story for NHL.

the extreme dangers of signing a G in UFA to more than 1-2 years, it has screwed EDM up big time and OTT has gambled as well with Korpisalo, the diff is OTT has a much much better D than EDM

LA is demonstrating that a team playing good team D can thrive with middle of the road goaltending (Talbot). Ottawa will get a lot better as their forwards become more responsible.

Sens are going to be tough out once playoffs start.

'FOOL'S GOLD'
Tkachuk on pace for 55g (has poor shot, scores at NHL level but couldn't score at lower level), Sutzle on pace for 109pts (will disappear when going gets tough), Norris on pace for 35g (good shot, scores at NHL level but couldn't score at lower level), Giroux on pace for 82pts (36 yrs old), Joseph on pace for 70pts (new found gold). This is not a good a team, it's a bubble team.

No, this team will continue to improve and be a hard out in playoffs.!

I may be wrong...but, are you not the guy that kept insisting the Sens were messing up by not accelerating Logan Brown's move up in the depth charts.

Stutzle doesn't look like someone who disappears to me. Ever. He does need some maturity though. He's developing some Spezza like habits. He's a turn over machine at the offensive blue line.

Tkachuk is an amazing captain. He's Alfie, but bigger and meaner.

This team still has zero structure especially on defense.
Needs new coach.

I think Stuetzle is beginning to recognize that teams are setting up to defend against him as he comes into the offensive zone. He seems to be passing more and either taking the return pass or continuing into the zone attracting lots of attention.

There is no doubt he is getting a lot more attention. But he is still growing his game.

His first three seasons were better numbers than Jack Hughes (first three years). Stuetzle has had a great start year 4. I think there is a lot more to come.

I may be wrong but weren't you part of the group that thought DJ Smith was a great coach.

Maybe head back to a previous debate.

The Ottawa/Tampa trade of Mathieu Joseph for Nic Paul.

Its actually not looking too bad for the Sens these days. Paul has 10 points and is -7 in 18 games whereas Joseph has 13 points and is +8 in 15 games.

Joseph is 2 years younger, much faster then Paul, and is also a good penalty killer. Paul has 5 years left on his contract, and Joseph has 2 more years.

Now I know that many of you will point to last year, but quite frankly, who cares. This is a "what have you done for me lately" league. Last year was last year .... neither team won the Cup. I am more interested in what the future holds and Nic Paul can't afford to slow down as he ages.

I like how Joseph's career is trending these days. Speed and tenacity, not the greatest hands, but good enough to maybe toss up 30 or so points (not bad for a piece that is moved around through the lineup).

Honestly, I don't think last year really matters now, and he had a down year. It happens to lots of players.

I think he can be a useful energy player to add secondary scoring for 30-40 points a year. Maybe a little over paid, but not by as much as well all thought at the start of the year.

Will the team need to figure out any cap considerations when Chabot/Greig come back, now that JBD has been called up?

By my calculations it will be close.

Tkachuk/Norris/Tarasenko
Giroux/Stutzle/Joseph
Kubalik/Greig/Batherson
Kelly/Chartier/MacEwen or Kastelik
Greig is an easy fit ... send Jarventie down, both have around same cap hit.
Same with Kastelik and MacEwen. Although Kastelik is a bit lower

Sanderson/Zub
Chychrun/Chabot
Brannstrom/JBD
Hamonic

Korpisalo/Forsberg

Because of the time missed, etc. ..... Ottawa's cap space should be fine. Its when Pinto comes back that there may be issues .... unless he signs for around what Chartier makes. By then we should have gained more room in the cap as the season progresses.

As for Kastelik ..... who knows. I haven't heard anything. But Chabot cannot come back until Dec starts. Since he is on LTIR, he still has to sit at least another 2 games (Islanders and Florida .... both in Dec.). By then, it will be 5 weeks (and he was to miss between 4-6 weeks due to hand injury).

Regardless .... Ottawa will be back to playing with a minimum roster. 12 forwards, 7 d-men, 2 goalies.

One other point to note. If Chabot comes back (Columbus game) and either Greig or Kastelik are still injured, then they can be flipped retroactively onto LTIR to ensure the Sens have the room if needed.

Pinto will take what he's offered. 1 year, league min, likely also a 2 way deal. He remains an RFA with no arb rights in that scenario. He's got zero leverage.
