To me, this is actually a negative for Washington.

Seems like he has zero confidence so he's taking shots from anywhere, hoping for a little puckluck.

We call that "Jason Blake Syndrome."

- Atomic Wedgie

Hence the Leafs and Faps having the same slot shots last night even though the Faps outscored them overall and lost.

Woll deserves the next start no matter what. If Keefe starts Samsonov next game he’s doing a terrible job coaching.

Figure out the starter for the preds after the Dallas game.

- bryant

You can’t just play one guy non-stop. Put Woll in tomorrow against the better team and Sammy on Saturday.

You can put woll in for several games in a row.
Let him play out this week, start sammy early next week.
You gotta give woll a bit of a run, just like they did with sammy last year.

Its not non stop, its 3 games or so...its ok cc.

I don't know, man. I think if we anoint Woll as the saviour and discard Sammy at this point, I just can't see how anything could possibly go wrong!

How was music night?

Was it as good as I imagined it would be?

My kids' old elementary school had a ukulele orchestra. Oh boy, that was a lot of fun to sit through.

- Atomic Wedgie

It was good. Like any school chorus, some of the kids are a lot better than others. Usually, the best ones are the more experienced juniors and seniors. But, they have this freshman kid who is a phenom. He sings (well), he plays piano (very well), he's charismatic, and he steals the show. Out of the entire group, I think he might be the one to go on to something bigger with singing and entertaining. My grandson is good, he really is, but his main interest is more about the choreography and logistics of the production. He's a future director.

That’s what I’m suggesting: 3 games for Woll (Saturday vs TB, yesterday vs Caps and tomorrow vs Dallas) and then Sammy on Saturday.

That statement is laden with first-hand experience.

To be fair, the worst is the grade school ones. In kindergarten, they are just so damn cute that it doesn't matter if they are terrible. Grade school level is maximum awkwardness and painfulness to watch/listen. By high school, the chaff has usually been separated out. Even the worst ones now are fairly talented in comparison to how they were in middle school.

Johansson for Willy Ny the Goals Guy straight up. Johan just pitched a shut out. Maximum value. Strike while the iron is hot.

You’re right. He only played 50 minutes against Tampa. I’ll adjust my suggestion: Woll for two games and 50 minutes, then Sammy back in on Saturday

It felt awful at the time and it looks worse now.

I absolutely hated it at the time. Like, I love that Varsho is the best defensive player in Baseball. Absolutely love it and I love good defense more than anything in Baseball, but man, I still hate the trade.

I always really liked Lourdes with the Jays, even with his bad defense. I just wished he'd stay healthy. And I couldn't believe that they had to include the #1 prospect in Baseball in the deal. Especially since I wanted Kirk traded, since I didn't think he could repeat what he had already done.

On the bright side, and having absolutely nothing to do with this trade, Manoah put out a workout video yesterday or the day before and he looks visibly more trim. Looks like he's working his ass off to get back to where he could/should be.

I think you have to give Samsonov the net once this week.

Letting a goalie wallow in his own misery is not a recipe for success.

I also think there's a decent chance that Lourdes could sign back with the Jays for next season.

How many gms do have a strong history with goalies?

Im hoping wollee mammoth turns out to be a legit starter for the leafs some day.

- Fakepartofme

You and Jonesy both make that point - and it's a good one. Maybe most GMs are bad with goalies? I just feel like we've had nothing but bad reads on goalies for so bloody long that it had to be us, right?

It's a hard one to research with the tools I'd typically use because there's not a lot of filters on trades that include goalies to see who was acquiring good goalies or acquiring bad goalies. Who was patchwork or just a terrible fit? I have - like all of us - some recollections here and there - but honestly all of the best goalies I can think of _recently_ were all drafted and then kept by their teams - Shesterkin, Saros, Sorokin, Hellebuyck . . .

But what if he sucks again?

I think you ride with Woll until a back 2 back or until he has a bad game.

There’s no back to back until November 10-11. There’s no problem with rotating your goalies, three in and one out. Leafs will need both this year

The leafs have been terrible at drafting goalies...although rask was pretty good. But we know had he stayed with leafs he would have sucked
I dont believe the leafs have ever prioritized goaltending....until its been too late

In that 2005 draft, there were 3 players I was positive were going to be stars: Crosby, Kopitar and Rask. I thought Rask would be better than Price, for the record. When we landed Rask I was ecstatic. When Ferguson traded him I was crushed. I was always super hyped about him - and his career pretty much spoke for itself. Being a Bruin helped, but he was an elite goalie.

I honestly thought Benoit Pouliot was gonna be something else. Was so god damn disappointed when the wild grabbed him right before the Habs picked.

Dodged a bullet there!
