do we want to spend to the cap and complain about no space, or complain about not spending to the cap, this year - TheSabresTaco
I never said that
his 6 to 7 mil cap hit could be used for a legit top pair d man though as we pissed money away this season on some guys
the statement was casey gives the team more flexibility than a prospect, which he does on the ice but not on the books money wise

If Adams spends to the cap paying 4th line larry's for 1 year each its ok, doesn't hurt the team. - Theguywiththething
well if they end up in a shane pinto situation (suspension not withstanding) then yeah they have a (frank)ing problem.

no I know, it's just been a common theme here. people are either irritated about not spending to the cap, or having no cap space to sign anyone.

the org will need to start being smarter about who they're paying for checking line roles once everyone here is making non-ELC or development contract money.

I don't disagree. But they aren't trading him anytime soon or within the next two years. I can promise you that.
He actually provides more flexibility than any prospect does - sbroads24
It's not something you should promise because he could easily price himself out.
I know the idea is out there that you can get him for a discount and even a shorter term, but what if you can't?
With a strong year, are Larkin, Horvat, Dubois comps crazy? Those are 8x8.5. Hertl, Robert Thomas, Norris? Those are 8x8m. With the cap going up, those aren't as crazy as they sound.
He has leverage here and you can't pay everyone. Even commiting to a 7x7m has significant ramifications for them. I think they'll find a way, but it's far from a lock.

Agree that they won't.
I maintain they should in a package for the right high-end player.
IMO, Its the classic sell high scenario, which is kinda funny because everyone wants to sell the player when playing relatively poorly against their projections (but want to use the projected value in trade proposals versus actual value)...and when they realize those projections they don't want to sell because he's now too valuable. |

As long as they don't bet on themselves losing I have no issue with players gambling. |

I know Kane is unpopular and I don't support him joining this team, but if it means exorcising Void, I'm open to anything.
Quinn will come back and either boot Benson or Olofsson. Kane will come in and boot the remainder. - TheSabresTaco
Pair of 1st rounders in Rochester with 8 points in 5 games. At some point that warrants a look, doesn't it? They aren't looking like they need another full AHL season. How are they making room?
4 1st rounders deserving (or very close) and they could all be blocked out this season? |

He's Arb Elligible as well...negotiations during the offseason could become difficult.
That said, maybe that is the path forward ... let him select Arb, the team selects 2 years..trade him after 1.
Edit: the scenario above implies that the 2 year Arb Award would be pretty reasonable in that only 1 year of UFA is included.

Does he take the Cozens deal? Essentially using Olofssons cap hit and giving it to Mitts works no?

He could, but I doubt he does. The entire point of getting Cozens/Thompson locked up when they did was so they can extend/add an additional big contract down the road when the cap rises.
They might not be able to sign him long term, but anyone who thinks he's getting moved within the next year is dreaming imo. They'll hold on until they can't |

When injuries occur I would say. They didnt look any kind of special in the preseason.

Yes, and they will get those looks. They're also 5 games out from looking invisible in the NHL.
I don't want to rehash this morning's convo, but what's with people forcing these kids to play here just because they scored points in the AHL? Training camp was like 4 weeks ago. They didn't do anything. |

I'll say it again but Casey's utility and skill combination puts him ahead of many more players than some may prefer.

I'm not 100% clear on Mitt's UFA status. There's a COVID year that is very muddy, but seems more likely than not to count. That puts him 1 year from UFA, and elimates the 2 year arb option. The team can not elect to eat a UFA year.
Arb would not be pretty. Put up 60 points at C and those 8.5m comps are a real problem.

He had some issues with OCD and that's what he was in the program for. At least what I can tell, if he can overcome that, he has the talent to be one of the best in the league. Him and Oettinger aren't far off, potential wise. - QuinnFan
I also get a bit OCD when I'm all twacked out.

Unless he could spend those $$ on actual hockey players that can help this team for 1 year instead.

They hold on to every player, until they are forced into making a move.
Hell, look at how long it took them to waive Fitzgerald last season.
Your posts have the tone of thinking people still hate on Casey, and don't like him. |

I really doubt that, even without Kane. Team's don't usually do this to their first rounders.

No it's KA who would never trade Kylee or send Levi down. 31 other GM's would have never signed Okposo in the first place nor would they allow a kid to say he's number one before he can prove anything |
