So I won't deny I was pretty damn nervous after preseason. The team looked lackluster and lost.
Last night was the first time in a long time I was never worried about anything. You could see the 1-3-1 doing it's thing and we didn't just give up the neutral zone. That would have helped with NJs speed last year.
The forecheck looks great, people are skating with a njump in their step. Also loves the hanging zone defense and how much easier it seemed for us to transition. Quick little passes and out of the zone/break up the play.
I know it's 1 game but it honestly shows what the difference is between talent alone and what coaching can do. - MeltingPlastic yea same. Even after the goal we would usually see the rails come off but they didn’t. Back to work no big deal kind of thing.

Not his fault Gorton buffed that. - tomburton99
Free agency, was it not? Always inflates the price. Everybody knows Trouba is overpaid. Not news anymore. 90% of teams have contracts that are higher than they should be. Minimum. He's a leader on and off the ice, defends (at times), blocks shots, hits like almost no one else,...
Not sure how much more the guy can possibly be s hit on. |

I’m happy to have him on the team. Just wish, like most, it was at a lower cap hit. Thank god wheeler took nothing to play here |

If you’re paid $8m you better produce a little. His point totals alone were never a problem for me. There’s just not enough there between defense, offense, intangibles to add up to that cap hit but again, it is what it is - picklerick
IMO, I don't seem to be as worried about the cap hit right now. Maybe I will later as he breaks down. But I think he is a pretty good leader on this team. Also, he can be a game wrecker with his hitting. I am biased to the old school open ice wake up calls. |

Trouba…your thoughts…
Give him credit for once will ya - Slimtj100
I disliked Trouba when he first got here. Trouba/Skjei I haven't had any issues with him over the last few years |

I agree with this. He more than makes up the $2M overpayment by the way he leads on and off the ice, and the way he can change the momentum of any game with a single hit. That extra 2M isnt biting us in the ass, no need to harp on it.
Great first game. Really fun to see this team implement a system and constantly make plays with a purpose. Have to carry this momentum into tomorrow

Great win, I just hope they dont have to play like this every night because it will inevitably take a toll on their body and health.
The most important thing I wanted to see was how they recover from giving up a lucky goal and most importantly how they hold the line when BUF goes into an all out attack mode…. and they did well.
LAF looked remarkably good, plus winning faceoffs?! Cuylle looked solid for his first game. |

teams are signing some contracts as if they have inside knowledge that the world is ending fairly soon, and hey, they may be right
