I mean there are going to be games this year where they stink. But that's just sports. The effort they showed last night was never there under Gallant. Blame has to be placed on the players, because they dictate the result. But the coach is supposed to help them overcome challenges. Gallant couldn't do that.

The rangers just looked in control and not opportunistic. Even when they were losing control they fell back on the system. Way more structure and effort. Great not giving up the blue line either

Buffalo is definitely a darling of pre-season know it alls though, so it's a hell of a road effort against a team predicted by a lot of people to take a big step this season

Never underestimate an opponent. Nothing drives me nuts more than a team playing DOWN to an opponent level. So it is a good win and a good start. But it is just that, a start.

I would love to see consistency with this group. That is an issue we all went crazy over the past couple years. Some games would be lights out against the best teams, and other games the team looked lost and feckless, even against lesser talented teams. Lavy's system preaching consistency through playing the system may be a revelation for us to watch.

Purely for a pat on the back sort of moment , I made that comparison about 2 months into Laf's NHL career. I've really waivered on that opinion since!! But, I saw a similar skill set and level. Would love for that to come true.
- Tonybere

That’s because we know hockey but I think 1OA comes with this irrational thought that they all should be McDavid, Bedard or Hughes, etc. He’s not “generational”, but that’s fine. Laf can still be a terrific player and Ranger for a long time. I’m a bit relieved no one offersheeted him looking back with the delay and long time it took. Could’ve really been a bad thing. He’s going to be the epitome of patience with a kid, and not bailing on potential too early

I think getting Trouba off PP2 is gonna help his overall game big time, he isn't good at it he should just be the Dan Girardi of this team, like someone else said earlier

I don’t remember the bench being that lively under GG. Like after those blocks you could hear the bench going bonkers. That gives me goosies when that happens

I think it’s apparent Lavy is a better coach and one game is all it took me the staff too. He brought in an all star coaching staff with him. Literally, wasn’t Peca an all star? Housely was a great player from what I remember

See above

It is what it is at this point. Now I’m worried he’s gonna die from blocking so many shots

He could get zero pts and I wouldn’t care, honestly. He isn’t getting paid to produce pts

Ironically I remember fighting nyr92627220 day after day about how I didn’t want him 😂

If you’re paid $8m you better produce a little. His point totals alone were never a problem for me. There’s just not enough there between defense, offense, intangibles to add up to that cap hit but again, it is what it is

To be fair he signed pre-covid didn’t he? He’d probably be like 6 something if it was after that. Same with Breadman, cheaper i mean

So I won't deny I was pretty damn nervous after preseason. The team looked lackluster and lost.

Last night was the first time in a long time I was never worried about anything. You could see the 1-3-1 doing it's thing and we didn't just give up the neutral zone. That would have helped with NJs speed last year.

The forecheck looks great, people are skating with a njump in their step. Also loves the hanging zone defense and how much easier it seemed for us to transition. Quick little passes and out of the zone/break up the play.

I know it's 1 game but it honestly shows what the difference is between talent alone and what coaching can do.
